GUANGZHOU MUSEUM COMPETITION Guangzhou, China EMBT Miralles Tagliabue Barcelona, Spain, 2014
The project’s purpose is to provide a sustainable building, respectful with the environment, integrated with the Guangzhou Lingnan Culture, the existing pagoda and new museums, but also to let the visitor have an unforgettable experience. The Guangzhou Museum presents itself as a homogenous artefact of a single material: ceramic mounted on light concrete slab with a color very similar to the pink stone of the city. In a majestic tall middle space there’s a large dome, the heart of the museum. The dome acts like a big ‘chandelier’ distributing daylight and air from the sky to the atrium. The roof is designed as a large solar collector surface, producing clean electrical energy for the building.

Acces by escalator and circulation spaces around the dome and views to the garden, Pagoda and Canton tower. The exhibition spaces are separated from the main hall by solid or translucent walls to provide a much more controlled enviroment requiered in the exhibition rooms (light, humidity, noise…). Permanent Exhibition is located in level 2 and 3 with direct connection if necessary. The hall in the area goes around the dome as a balcony and offers exteriors balconies to enjoy the views towards the Pagoda and Canton Tower. The History of the city overlooking the present.
The dome-shaped atrium space serves as the main circulation and lobby space but also incorporates some special environmental features. The top surface of the dome structure is used to capture light via adjustable reflectors which direct it down into the atrium with the lower part of the dome lattice structure, which is finished with a highly reflective metal surface, acting like a big “chandelier” and distributing daylight from the sky to light the atrium. The metal dome lattice structure is also activated by chilled water which allows the surface of the structure to cool the atrium space by convection and long wave radiation thereby using to advantage the large surface area offered by the dome structure. The atrium is also used as a return path for the air from the exhibition spaces so that the size of the central shafts can be reduced.

The vertical facades are a double skin construction with an exterior screen and ventilated cavity to reduce heat gain. Transparent openings are minimized in exhibition spaces to optimize energy performance. Windows with a view are placed in circulation spaces and non-critical areas between the different exhibition spaces, providing natural daylight and improving the spatial qualities experienced during a visit to the museum. The exterior skin is a screen build with large prefabricated panels of light concrete. This panels are supported by a metal grid. The panels are build using guangzhou red sand stone as based color and combined with ceramic pieces inserted in the concrete to achieved a very rich level of texture and color variations.

NUOVO COMPLESSO PARROCCHIALE SAN GIACOMO Ferrara, Italy EMBT Miralles Tagliabue Barcelona, Spain, 2015
The project is a presence friendly and open to the citizens, thanks to a light and organic architecture contrasting the solid and compact materiality of the important historical bricks and stones preexistences. The shape is inspired to a delicate balloon lying on the ground with an upwards tension, metaphor of the ascension to heaven. The church have a wood structure and a ceramic cover. The river, cornerstone of the city, is recalled in the floor design, refering to the Baptism theme. The room is ordered semicircular around a central altar located on a platform in the geometric and conceptual core of the building. A large monumental portal marks in highly symbolic way the entrance to the church.

STAZIONE METROPOLITANA CENTRO DIREZIONALE Naples, Italy EMBT Miralles Tagliabue Barcelona, Spain, 2015
The principal purpose of the project is to break the physical and mental barriers between the urban map developed anonymously in those years and the change of the historic city of Naples. The new subway station, connected underground with the city, transforms the area into a new artificial topography surface with different pedestrians levels and an impressive tectonic structures coverage. The material research offers a reinterpretation of the ancient fabric archetype of the city. The recall of maiolica for the roof covering represents the typical character of the Neapolitan city. EMBT manages to create a different public space that wants to connect the past and the present of the city.

Thesys Project
PAVIA E IL LIMITE URBANO Pavia, Italy Thesys Laboratory - Politecnico di Milano Milan, Italy, 2015
The project is a student residence located on the grounds of the ancient walls in the eastside of the city of Pavia. A new library building is designed where the ancient bastion used to stand in the north part of the wall. The two buildings in the complex recompose the shape of the whole old fort that will recreate the ancient city limit and return to the city a part of it nowadays no longer recognizable. Opposite to the old wall, the construction of a new university building creates a dual axis: the main links the Borromeo College and its gardens to the wall itself, the secondary combines in a single curtain the school buildings located along the present Viale Resistenza. The intervention re-evaluates a place of Pavia full of potential and value.

Workshop Project
SPORTS CENTER - EXPO 2015 Rho Fiera, Italy International Workshop of Urban and Architectural Design Milan, Italy, 2011
The project, developed in one week, is situated at the end of the Sempione axis, an historical route to the north-west of Milan. The end is the main theme of the project that contemplates the build of a functional mix district, in front of the 2015 EXPO area, with residential and office buildings, a green area and a sports center as the main structure. In the middle of the area a square connects all the sites. Inside the sports center there are a swimming pool, a little mall, a museum and a sport arena with 5000 seats. This construction is a green metal terraced structure with a big glass window on the square side. The arena, on the contrary, have a concrete cover structure.

Workshop Project
A WAY OF GREEN Manila, Philippines International Workshop Quezon City, Philippines, 2014
The Project is based on the requalification of the Pasig river in Manila, Philippines. The main idea of the intervention is the river’s linearity and the creation of a pedestrian riverfront on the north bank. It is defined by the presence of landmarks, having different typology, shapes and colors with the purpose of represent the various areas of the city, located behind them. A green area, arranged with open pavilions and water stream, comes up beside the two river banks. A pedestrian bridge put in relate the minor pedestrian path of the north area with an arena in the south area. This public arena is situated in front of the Intramuros, the oldest and most historical part of the city.

Academic Project
TROTTER SQUARE GARDEN Milan, Italy Interior Architecture Laboratory - Politecnico di Milano Milan, Italy, 2012/2013
The project is designed in the Trotter park area, in Milan, restoring some of the structures already existing in the area. In the park there are a kindergarten and elementary schools; for this reason, in the daylight hours, the district is often closed. The purpose is to create a public space, always approachable from the citizens, that holds a library and a cultural center with an auditorium, an exhibition space and a literary cafĂŠ. All the buildings are connected by a hypogeal square and through a really characteristic wood and glass footbridge. The Trotter Square Garden wants to became an important social and cultural area for this great part of the city, by the binomial public service/green space.
