NYAMAN STUDIO - GALLERY Semester 3 studio project Jao Tim, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Softwares : AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop
BRIEF | Nyaman Studio is a place to further preserve Bakul Siah one of forgotten Chinese culture. Nyaman word inspired from Malay word of “mengayam” which means weaving. The main technic to make bakul siah. Here, bakul siah artist could keep making this culture and at the same time introduce it to others.
The gallery purpose inside the studio is for people could remember and understand the history, fuction, and process of bakul siah. There are 2 main display area. The centrepiece function are to display Bakul Siah that made by the artist there as well to attract people.
On the side, Nyaman studio also want to share knowledge about Bakul Siah with displaying things and information related into it on a rack that’s inspired from traditional chinese rack.
16 | NYAMAN STUDIO
DESIGN IDEA | The centrepiece of the gallery is from the previous task where we need to make a functional conceptual art ‘device’, inspired from forgotten culture, and i choosed Bakul Siah. The meaning behind of it is the story journey of making Bakul Siah that isn’t easy to make, there’s a lot of step and detail into it.
Therefore, the model design looks abstract and complicated. From the conceptual model there are 3 keywords which are weave, bend, and flow. That will be implement in the spatial design of Nyaman Studio. Furthermore, red color could be seen in the design as it’s a colour of traditional bakul siah.
