ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO
ABOUT ME I’m proud to say that I am now an Architecture graduate from the University of Melbourne. I’ve always been an art and crafts geek since I was a kid, but I was a full time science student during my highschool. It was a tough decision for me to choose between these two distinct interests before I studied design in UNSW Foundation Studies. However, life could have never been better than following where my passion is.

located on the corner of Bourke and Spencer Streets in Melbourne’s cBD, the theatre is dedicated to the staging of murder mystery plays, consisting of a 500-seat proscenium theatre, a 250-seat experimental theatre, and a 250-seat cinema. The concept of MYSTERY BOxES underlies both the aesthetic and function of the proposed conan Doyle Mystery Theatre. Its relationship to the city of Melbourne is displayed through the boxes’ grid arrangement, which reference the cBD’s infrastructure planning. The push and pull effect of the boxes allows the spatial arrangement to be unique and mysterious as there are hidden spaces formed. As its exciting shape entertain the site, an outdoor coffee and dessert shops complement the program. “A space for crime setting, a stop for sweets, a place to pause from a busy day, an outdoor dining experience in the heart a civic presence for the people.” THE cONAN DOYlE MYSTERY THEATHRE 14

Inspired by the cellular morphology of the posal is a uniquely corrugated semi-tunnel that cantilevers 60 meters from its support. This design is achieved using Grasshopper plugin in Rhinoceros 3D software. Using the insect’s wing and the project’s natural site as the basis of the development of its overall form and pattern, this passion for nature. Anyone--designers or non designers--will be able catch the natural essence of this proposal through the pattern of voronoi and its form that smoothly appears from the ground. The transparency of its material further blends ing the colors of nature that surrounds it. The achievement of both lightweight outlook and properties will not just offer a quick attraction for the users, but also a thoughtful inspiration, awe and curiosity on what could possibly enable this installation to amazingly stand by itself. 21 WYNDHAM GATEWAY DESIGN PROJEcT

The Boathouse is a project done in a studio for learning from the masters: Kazuyo Sejima. The shape of the design was inspired by istic of the river. This is shown through the slanting and bending of the walls, which are also designed to guide the eye of the users toward the river. To maintain the simple cubic outlook of Sejima’s designs, the degree of bending is minimized. The form ing cubes. Using Sejima’s strategy of applying the grid system, the structure of the boathouse is divided according to a 1 x 6 grid. Following the grid lines, columns are placed around the main building to proand double-height ceiling are also used in reference to Sejima’s Design. While Sejima often locates a garden behind her design structure, the boathouse engages nature by exposing a beautiful river at the back of the building. The relationship with nature is also enhanced by placing windows facing the river. This idea of solid vs. transparent outlook is further designed to indicate private vs. public space within the boathouse. THE BOATHOUSE 34

The cultural Discovery center holds four main discovery spaces: 1. An underground gallery as the “colonisation Discovery Space” 2. An outdoor stage called “contemporary cultural Space” 3. A corridor gallery of the “Displacement Discovery Space” 4. An “Indigenous Discovery the space is representing the theme of its own name. A treehouse, which was inspired by the term ‘nature’ and ‘settlement’, is used as the structural concept of the building. The dimension of the structure follows the orientation of a tree diagram. On the other hand, its design concept was developed from a parti inspired by an aboriginal dot painting. This is shown through the buildidity of movement.

The concept of a “treehouse is representing the idea of settlement from the reading The Shaping of Bearbrass as the play that will be perfomed on this stage design. The idea of having an elevated space and a semi-underground space is to support the story of how one could see the intimate view of Melbourne landscape, while the other enjoy being in a refuge from the environment. Inspired by the orientation of a tree, the treehouse design will function as an upper stage and a lower stage for two persons performing a monologue, which will be held on a Summer Festival. Yet, it will be used as a shelter for visitors of Herring Island as they could also feel the experience of the Pre-Bearbrass landscape, and as a place of recreation.

“What if architectural designs could grow like trees in a forest or shift as beach sand? This BODYSPAcE project transforms natural form-making process of bread moulding into micro-architectural structures that can be worn on a human body and lit from within. Manipulation of circular fungi, moisture-related environment and growth direction of bread mould are digitized using Rhinoceros program and then fabricated by hand. The project was chosen as the top 10 lanterns to be displayed on BODYSPAcE 1 exhibition as a part of 2011 The light in Winter festival in Melbourne, Australia. It was the best selection from more than 250 unique wearable lanterns produced through an innovative digital design and chitecture, Building and Planning, University of Melbourne.
