Hi Julia! Please tell us a little about yourself. Hi my name is Julia Dover. I am from Sydney, Australia but originally from South Africa. In the past I have studied sculpture, painting, drawing, mixed media art, wood work and silver-smithing. I come from a very artistic family and have always been encouraged to develop and pursue my creativity. My mother was my biggest inspiration as a child and I wanted to paint and draw just like her. Where do you draw your inspiration from? I get my inspiration from nature and emotion and have always been inspired by the colours and style of Africa art. How messy does it get when you’re making a piece? I’m happiest when I’m covered in paint. It recharges my soul. ‘Messy hands, happy heart’ is how I always sign off in my YouTube description. I love to throw my “splashes of colour” around and become one with the piece. Do you have a specific creative space / studio where you make your art? At the moment I don’t have a specific place I create my art. My favourite places are to either be creating outdoors, my little studio or the kitchen/dining room. Depending on how big the piece is that I’m working on. What are some of your favourite movies? Some of my favourite movies are Training Day, 30 • STELL Magazine
Enough, We’re the Millers, Unbreakable, High Crimes, Pretty Woman, Love Actually and the Lion King. What style of music do you like the listen to when you are creating? When I am creating my music choice depends on how I’m feeling but my go to genre would be pop, rock, r’n’b, reggae, grunge, funk, I listen to a bit of everything What do you do when you run out of ideas and get stuck? I don’t often run out of ideas and get stuck as I find inspiration from the smallest things. Recently I saw a mug with cutlery in it, sitting in the sink. It reminded me of a bird so with clay, knives and forks I created a quirky, rainbow ostrich/cockatoo/ rooster. Other than art, what else are you passionate about? Other than art I am passionate about science, nature, music, fashion, animal and human psychology as well as mental health awareness. Helping others in need and educating them is something I’d like to one day incorporate with art. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? Cuddle my kitten and play with my dog and puppy. @juliadoverart

BREEANNA MAREE FASHION DESIGNER CENTRAL COAST & SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
50 • STELL Magazine
Modern elegance with an intricate eye for detailing and couture tailored craftsmanship, BREEANNA MAREE creates garments of modern elegance through her fascination with the interaction between a woman’s personality and their attire. Hi Breanna! Tell us a bit about yourself and about your label. Growing up on the sunny beaches of the central coast, I began my fashion journey by completing a Bachelor of Fashion Design at ‘The Fashion Design Studio’ Ultimo TAFE. Over the last few years I have been pouring my heart and soul into my label and have been unbelievably blessed to meet so many amazing creatives along the way. I always think it’s important to combine creative energy and different skill sets. What sparked your interest in fashion? I have always been extremely creative, dabbling in music, visual arts and dance. I also loved working with my hands and got great satisfaction from personally creating something start to finish. So I guess fashion design naturally fell into my path. My specific interest in couture stems from the challenge and skill that I always saw as aspirational. Most importantly I love how it made clients feel: glamorous, confident, sensual. What was the inspiration behind your SS18 graduate collection? This collection took reference from historical art and detailed architecture in direct contrast
to modernity and freedom represented by wind movement. The SS18 Graduate Collection features exquisite opulent hand detailing and dramatic luxury designs. Emphasis was placed on the desire to create immaculately detailed garments that weren’t solely constricted to event-wear but showing an organic blend for more accessible garments to pair with everyday life without compromising on the quality and detailing. This collection encapsulates the heart of the brand and showcases divine attention to detail without compromising fit and functionality. Do you have a favourite from your collection? Some days I do… but then it always changes. Sometimes if I haven’t seen the pieces in a while, I take them out and am refreshed- falling in love with them all over again haha. Describe to us what your design process is like. I always evolve the designs from a sensation or expression inspired by my muse women. I try not to let anything complicate or cloud my process but just let whatever feels natural flow… In saying that I love trying something new and pushing my comfort zones. STELL Magazine • 51
What is your personal fashion style? Do you think this influences the way you create your pieces? My personal style is a mix between vintage luxury and refined individuality. I absolutely love vintage shopping and sorting through racks to find hidden gems. I also love going into beautifully presented stores with a few golden pieces and trying on every possible combination. Drawing upon these two very different styles, I mix and match the pieces to create a unique blend. If you could dress anyone in the world, who would it be? Taylah Roberts and Samantha Harris are two Aussie beauties that have always been a muse to me and of course I would love to dress them. Even more so, I always find I’m drawn to unknown women on the street who have a unique style or attitude that I would love to see in my clothes. I always find myself gazing at beautiful women while stopping for coffee; they can totally tell I’m checking them out haha! Other than fashion, what do you also love? Beach, sun and salt. My idea of perfection is diving into the ocean on a scorching hot day, only to retreat to the sand for a summer sunset. You can 52 • STELL Magazine
also find me exploring and finding hidden natural gems, especially star gazing. Yes, I’m a hopeless romantic. What’s next in store for Breeanna Maree? I am excited to announce the release of the 2019 BREEANNA MAREE COLLECTION! Combining exquisite 3D embroidery and hand-beaded surface detailing with seek modern design lines, the collection boasts wearable luxury. This evening wear range is inspired by the everyday women, drawing upon their aspirations and feminine mentality. A sense of high end sophistication with a glorious modern touch presents the Breeanna Maree fingerprint. With every look posing a different style and shape, there is something for everyone. This collection is due to be released later this year for a late November Debut. Make sure you stay posted and follow me to keep updated! What is a quote or motto that you live by? “Forever is composed of nows.” - Emily Dickinson This reminds me to not take life too seriously and to live in the right now. www.breeannamaree.com @breeannamareeofficial
