Germantown Market
germantown train station philadelphia, pennsylvania urban design studio fall 2013
By observing trends between vacancies, green spaces, food access, public transportation and surrounding bike networks, Germantown is able to be pieced together through a series of connections along the once industrious Chestnut Hill East rail line. This corridor stretches the length of Germantown and holds several key nodes through the neighborhood, continuing into Mount Airy and serving Philadelphia area. Germantown station lies at the intersection of the neighborhood’s commercial corridor and Septa’s R7 regional rail line. This design utilizes the principles of transit oriented development at Germantown Station to increase ridership and engagement. Through the integration of food access and public space surrounding mass transit, Germantown progresses from a stop on the train to a destination for all of Philadelphia.

Public Piazza
Ridge Place philadelphia, pennsylvania stewardson competition Spring 2014
The 1500 block of Ridge Avenue in the Francisville neighborhood of Philadelphia consists of numerous vacant row houses across from a lot filled with gravel, stone, and more vacant buildings. In the middle of this vacant lot is Francisville’s Art’s Garage that houses performances from numerous local artists. With the development of the arts corridor on this block of Ridge Avenue, this proposal offers artists more space to showcase their work to the community. While there were so many vacant buildings on the site, strategies to preserve and demolish were both prevalent. The rowhouses on the south side of Ridge Avenue would be renovated and vacant lots would be infilled. Buildings along Ridge Avenue along the north parcel are demolished but materials would be reused for paving and smaller interventions on the site. With residences, retail, galleries, restaurants, a cafe, and a performance space surrounding a public square, Ridge Place would attract a diverse group of people on the north end of Philadelphia’s Arts Corridor.

patch adams free clinic philadelphia, pennsylvania comprehensive studio fall 2012 Dr. Patch Adams and friends were highly interested in opening a free health clinic for residents of the Philadelphia area and surrounding counties. The design intent is to create a net zero, free community health clinic that provides supplementary methods and conveniences for fostering and facilitating a healthier community. The character of the projects reflects the playful nature of Patch Adams through the use of color and texture while achieving a healthy environment through natural resources. Project Size: 17000

Public Piazza
milano + panisperna rome, italy urban systems studio spring 2013 Intending to further develop the plan of Sixtus V, this design marks another important node in Rome. The site converges at the intersection of Via Milano and Via Panisperna. Via Milano terminates marking the end of Via Babuino from Piazza del Popolo intersecting Via Panisperna which follows the towards Santa Maria Maggiore and aligns with the dome of Sixtus V’s tomb.
04
The site is defined by the Church of San Lorenzo, the Institute for Ancient Roman History, and an entrance to the Ministry of the Interior. The intersection which appears to form a mini piazza is occupied by more vehicular traffic than by pedestrians. In an effort to create another landmark in the urban plan of Rome, this design will complete this “unfinished piazza”, Therefore, creating a an occupiable space for which the user can stop and make the connection that Sixtus’ roads were intended to do. Completing this piazza by means of an information center and manipulating the topography to create more open space will further help the user engage in the urban plan of Rome.

the tap house venice, california modular prefab studio spring 2014 This custom single-family residence explores various methods of prefabrication. The home is module and wrapper design, where the structure is composed of three dimensional steel modules and the wrapper is a continuous screen that acts as a blanket of the home. The modules are arranged in the form of a ‘u’, creating zones for program, and a courtyard. With the intention to maximize outdoor space and conform to the luxury of southern California living, the modules are lifted off the ground, creating a covered space designated for outdoor leisure and entertainment. A second exploration of prefabrication is demonstrated on the façade. An array of timber slats wraps the second and third stories, designating private programmatic elements. Together, the elevated modules and wrapper give the residence a floating presence on the canal.

The client had a big impact on the exterior of the home. As a textile designer, the client is interested in fabrics, how they are constructed, their patterns, materials, and how they dress an individual.
The intent for the screen was to see how a static material like wood can have a draped appearance over the heavy steel construction of the modules. The slats expand where more shading is desired follows a continuous pattern, giving the screen a fabric like appearance that acts as a veil to the home.
The timber slats would also be prefabricated and assembled to the home on site. The intent was to push the boundaries of prefabrication and customization to make this home adequately respond to its site, climate, and client.
