MMXII presents the next induction ceremony at the
NIGHT MARKET on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th
the
PROJECT
MMXII recognizes local personalities by casting their feet, hands, and signature in concrete medallions. The project is an ongoing collaborative effort by Paul Druecke, Brittany Kowalski, Marissa Waraksa, and Oliver Sydello. As part of the ongoing MMXII series, we will be staging an induction ceremony outside of the Convention Center on Wisconsin Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets. The induction ceremonies mark a moment in time. They pay homage to to the city's social and material infrastructure. They celebrate industry, and the labor necessary to mix and prepare concrete for the moment of immortal impression. By combining Hollywood Boulevard and midwest passion, MMXII offers an idiosyncratic perspective on power, wealth, and legacy. MMXII’s first inductees, Milverine, Mom Corn, and the Brady Street Giant bring together a sampling of Milwaukee characters. Each is from a different area of Milwaukee with different upbringings and ties to the city. Each stands out, slightly larger than life, against the backdrop of Milwaukee—as they resonate their familiar charm. MMXII is currently deciding who will be the next inductee. Whose cast will grace the sidewalk outside the Convention Center? Join us on October 15th to find out!
the
INDUCTEES MOM CORN— MILLIE KONIECZNY runs the “Mom & Pop Corn” Stand in Catalano Park, where she has been for 12 years, she sells tasty popcorn and delivers friendly greetings.
THE MILVERINE— JOHN HAMMAN works construction during the day and listens to opera at night. Known most famously for his strong resemblance to X-men superhero “Wolverine” and his walking workouts.
THE BRADY STREET GIANT— LESTER FONVILLE is a former pro-basketball player who is not only large in size but also in personality. He can be seen regularly on Brady Street, where he is always looking to make new friends.
Who will the MMXII's fourth inductee be? One of your favorite sport leagues? A legendary Riverwest entrepreneur? The person responsible for door to door flower sales? The artist inspired by Bradford Beach?
Find out at the Night Market on October 15th.
