The City of Raleigh acquired 305 acres of land right outside of downtown Raleigh but unfortunately is located in the middle of two demographics. The overall goal for this project was to create an equal access and equal pedestrian amenities that assist with bringing every race, age, and income to Dix Park. The City of Raleigh hired MVVA (Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates) to create a master plan but disappointingly they ignored the racial divide around Dix Park. By creating this conversation and awareness of the lack of focus to the surrounding conditions, local designers began to question how to implement what I was proposing to make sure the park is create for everyone and not just for one race, income, and age.
