[ A COMMUNITY THEATRE ]

A proposal for a small, 200-person theater. It features a proscenium stage, street-front lobby, and rich art-deco influenced motifs. It sits in the heart of historic Columbus, a hot-bed of modernist architecture. With its corner entry rotunda, it forms a plaza that can be used for cafe seating in the daytime and gathering space for night-time performances.

[ THE NOTRE DAME INN ]

A proposal for a small inn by St. Mary’s Lake on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. It features lake views, a large ballroom & conference center, as well as collegiate gothic elements found in many of the older buildings on campus. Regarding the site plan, the inn helps create a visual cue as a secondary entry into campus.

[ AN ECO-LUXURY RESORT ] OMAN, SAUDI ARABIA

Spring MMX | Professor Gilbert Gorski

A proposal for a resort hotel located within the deserts of Oman. The site sits on a promontory overlooking scenic sand dunes. Each room is designed with natural cooling and ventilation in mind, as well as the use of local vernacular and traditional Islamic elements. Heavy masonry walls keep the complex cool and the overall orientation of the plan promotes prime views. Each garden was carefully planned to create a variety of experiences, from recreational to meditative. [ pen & ink ]

[ AN ADDITION TO THE CORCORAN GALLERY ] DINING ROOM INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Fall MMIX | Professor William Ponko

An addition to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, originally built in 1897 by Ernest Flagg. Situated on a triangular block, this addition would expand the available gallery space while also incorporating a school of art & design. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., the architectural vocabulary used was largely influenced by the surrounding beaux-arts style civic buildings. The addition features a central sculpture atrium as well as an outdoor garden connection to the school. [ pencil & watercolour ]

THE RE-URBANIZATION OF PIENZA, ITALY

Fall MMVIII | Professor Lucien Steil | Studio-wide Master Plan & Building Design with L. Esmilla

Urban in-fill in the suburbs formed around the historic city of Pienza, the birth-city of Pope Pius II (1405). The suburban area was divided into three districts, and was further designed by each studio. The palazzo design is located close to the edge of the old city and features artist workshops, lofts, and a sculpture garden. The objective was to promote an artistic center in the area, as local artisan culture is a very prominent feature in Pienza. [ pen & watercolour ]

[ THE PEACOCK: A HOTEL &CASINO ] SECTION THROUGH Library

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

Fall MMX | Professors David M. Schwarz, Brook Denison, Michael Lykoudis, Fr. Richard Bullene

A master plan for the Harrah’s Campus on the Las Vegas Strip. As a group, we developed the site, with two east-west shopping streets, an arena, and a 500’ observation wheel. This proposal is for a hotel and casino, taking the corner at the intersection of Koval Lane and Flamingo. The hotel is a small luxury resort with 800 rooms, a full-service spa, and an olympic-sized swimming pool. As most hotels in the area, this is a thematic hotel, focusing on 1920s culture and the art-deco style. [ pen, pencil & watercolour]

[ LéOGÂNE CIVIC CENTER ]

Master plan for Léogâne, Haiti -- the city closest to the epicenter of the January 2010 earthquake. Léogâne was one of the most devastated cities in Haiti, with nearly 90% of the buildings left unusable. The master plan focused on revitalizing the town square and was developed with G. Cruess, with additional feedback from the Holy Cross brothers at Notre Dame. The block itself is on the north-west side of the square, focusing on government functions, and is directly across from the Cathedral block. The main idea was to create an open, inviting axis with the Cathedral, and provide the Haitian people with the basic government functions necessary for them to sustain themselves in their rebuilding efforts. The plan features separate buildings, ideal for phasing, with a central city hall, promoting a more active involvement between the people and the governing bodies.

A current project in Noida, India for a business center. Working with BPTP, we worked on developing 3 office towers and a high end shopping center. The aesthetic is much more modern than most other projects in RAMSA, as we explored shifting grids, cantilevered floors, and retail advertising opportunities. Much of the design was done in models, then we moved into CAD, SketchUp, and eventually Revit. One tower is currently in construction.

MASTER PLAN

A current master plan in Chongqing, China. As a team we developed a plan and then focused on a retail area for Phase I, now in Design Development. The site also includes a wedding chapel and aviation musem, and Phase II will include a business hotel. My focus was on elevations and the museum. Hoping to create the feeling of a hilltop town, we looked at towns in Italy, China, France, Spain, & Greece. We also worked extensively with the landscape department to create a series of outdoor spaces that interacted with the organic, yet formal, feeling of our plan.
