Creativity is intelligence having fun -Albert Einstein

About: The reason I chose to study Interior Design was, I truly believe that design has an impact on everyones lives, and I wanted to do something that would have a positive influence on others. In the Spring of 2019, I graduated from Miami University, where I studied Interior Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, and User Experience Design. My received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interior Design and a minor in Graphic Design. Then I continued my education at the University Of Notre Dame for graduate school. I am received a Masters of Science in Management which is comparable to an MBA but designed for non-business undergrad students. I wanted to become more well rounded. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, but I love to travel and experience new places. Traveling has given me a different and more holistic approach to design. I have always been eager to learn, and have found myself passionate in expressing my creative side. I am ready when presented with an opportunity to enter the world of design and continue to learn and develop into a designer.

Healing Home Cancer Center

Patient Room: Perspective 3

The Healing Home Cancer Center was inspired by my grandfather. He passed away in 2017 from cancer and spent a majority of his final time in a hospital. The Healing Home was designed for blood cancer patients. During their treatments patients must stay in the hospital for at least a month. I chose this as my passion project because I think healthcare is an example of how design can positively impact patients. My goal was to create a place that gave people freedom. The biggest complaint people have during their treatments is the loss of privacy, choice, and control. These three words were the focus throughout my whole project and it was my mission to create a space to give patients all of these things.

UP

I created privacy by tucking the patient’s beds behind the bathroom walls, so when the door opens to their room you don’t instantly see the patient.

Choice was created by giving patients things to do during their stay; they can use the movie theater, meditation space, art space, take an art class, the library, art gallery, or roam the healing gardens.

Control over what they do or their environment was provided by using RF (GPS) tags to allow patients to roam the space freely. They can control the temperature of their rooms from their bed.

Patient Room: Elevation 2

Every patient room was private each with its own bathroom, mini fridge, desk, closets, pull out couches, and a ton of storage for patients and family belongings. I made it a goal of mine to give not only the patients enough space, but also their families and friends. The use of warm colors and materials in their rooms was done to separate patient rooms from the public areas.

This concept can also be seen through my material choices and how I showed the difference between public and private spaces with my material choices as well. The private areas used warmer wood colors mixture with natural tones.

Cafe: (B) Elevation 1

The cafe space was meant to double as a waiting room for family and friends when their loved ones were receiving treatments or getting scans. There is also a staircase that connects the first and second floor. The second floor is where families can explore the art gallery, library, movie theater, or sit together in the common areas.

While in the public areas I used lighter and brighter colors. Each of these areas use the natural colors and greenery to emphasize bringing nature indoors. Using colors like this is suppose to increase healing among patients.

Treatment Bay (C) Perspective 1

Art Gallery: (O) Elevation 3

Another way I connected patients to the outdoors was dropping walls. Instead of having the wall go from floor to ceiling, I made them stop short so natural light will be able to reach all spaces.

Most of the treatment bays face the windows so each patient has views of the outdoors during treatments. There are a private rooms in the center that are for patients who may be having side effects such as migraines and don’t want access to the natural light or may want more privacy because they are struggling.

The hallways each have waiting spaces that also can function as gathering spaces for patients and families. They are filled with plants because in these areas there is no access to natural light, so this still brings nature indoors and connects patients to the nature. Waiting Room: Perspective 2

The section above shows the atrium that extents from floor to ceiling of the entire building. I left the overlook to this area on the upper floors free, so visitors and patients will have an easy direct view to the outdoors. I placed the cafe on the lower level in the atrium. It functions as not only a cafe, but it is also a waiting room for family and friends of loved ones when they may be receiving a treatment or getting some scans done. This atrium was one of the main reasons I chose this building because it carried light throughout every floor. Cafe: (B) Perspective 4

Graphic Applications

Patients wouldn’t want a t-shirt that display that they have cancer. I chose to create a beanie that patients can wear after hair loss, socks and a blanket that patients can wear to chemo since a common complaint is being cold, and the mug keeps liquid hot or cold for over 12 hours so they can take it around the center, cooler bag to bring snacks to long treatment sessions or families can take to the store with them to restock their loved ones mini fridge.

I chose this building because of the abundance of windows on every floor. It allowed each patient to have an entire wall bringing in natural light and connecting them to the outdoors. It is also located in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania near world renown doctors and well known teaching hospitals. The surrounding area also had some existing landscaping, such as a pond any trees and bushes, so by adding some new pathways and even more greenery throughout the area created a healing garden.

Stantec Office Design

Stantecs design mission is to design with the community in mind. I was inspired by their mission, to me the word community also means family. So I wanted to create a space that is open with clean lines and pops of bold color. Materials will be light and simple to highlight the branding of orange throughout the space. The office will be somewhere employees can not only work but also live and play.

Conference Room Breakout Spaces Client Presentation Room Copy/Print/Fax Room Mail Room Restrooms Reception Area Entry/Lobby Small Conference Room / Team Room Cafe Staff Lounge Server Room

The lower level is meant to be for the visitors of the company. There are many individual spaces as well as conference rooms and a presentation room. Since Stantec is such a large company this level is meant for all the workers that are coming from the other locations around the world to collaborate on a project. It features a cafe and a family room for people to come together. Assigned Work Stations Breakout Spaces Materials Library Periodicals Private Office Restrooms Employee Only Enterance IT Workspace Small Conference Room / Team Room

The upper level is connected by a grand stair case. This space is not only used for circulation but also for people to sit and gather together. Upstairs has individual assigned work stations along with many team breakout spaces and team areas.

My material choices were inspired by existing Stantec Offices. They used orange, a light wood, and gray tones throughout the space. I chose to use the same scheme but use the orange as an accent color instead. The pops of orange are symbolic of the areas people are suppose to gather.

The neutral and natural tones allowed for the orange to pop throughout the space, while the green complimented the orange. The orange was used to out emphasis on areas users gather and carry visitors through the space.

This project was completed after I turned in a detailed set of construction documents. This project was the first time I was exposed to this documentation and I created the entire set of construction documents for my project.

Offices are becoming more flexible. Many employees do not have a work station, therefore for my design I continued this idea. There are many touchdown spaces and team rooms. But I also recognized that not all people enjoy that type of environment. I have one assigned workstation for all employees, and separated key areas of the office to force employees to move throughout the space, therefore encountering others and building connections.

Personal Brand

My brand is about showing the energetic but sophisticated designer that I’m growing to be. I used my pink pattern paired with a solid throughout all of my deliverables, not only because pink is my favorite color, but it also shows the energy I have. Organized, creative, driven, and reliable are qualities I possess that are important for my potential employers to understand. Not only do I consider myself having a colorful personality, a lot of my designs use colors. I spent a lot of my time in design studying the meaning behind colors, so I want that idea to be something that is connected through my brand. Design is something I have been passionate about from a very young age, that being said I have a passion towards my career. I am driven each and every day to succeed and continue to grow and develop as a designer. I will be your go to girl to get the job done.

Logo My personal logo embodies the elegance and creativity behind brand. This mark is strong and dynamic enough that it can stand on its own, but also work in context with a lock-up of my name and contact information

Business Card My business card is printed on glossy card stock and is encased with a sleeve also made out of a glossy card stock. The sleeve is something you don’t see everyday and I hope will make me stand out to employers. The key hole provides a pop of color to represent the creativity behind my brand.

Cover Letter This is printed on white linen paper, and has the paint texture of the back side. I chose to left align my text to relate it to the text above, but that also created white space across the page which highlights the simplicity of a first impression.

Resume I really wanted to incorporate my texture on this page to make it stand out in a stack among others. By adding my pattern on the back of the page I still created a wow factor. Underlining the headers with pink connects this deliverable to my outgoing personality and my over all brand, but it is simple enough that it is done in a tasteful manner.

Teaser My teaser is made up of multiple components. This package will arrive by mail and when its opened you are greeted by a card with instructions to look at the flash drive to learn more about me. The flash drive will hold a video informing viewers about who I am and what I have to offer. The box mimics my business card from outside to in, and the flash drive is wrapped in my texture.

Envelope My envelope is where my inspiration for the pop of color throughout my brand started. Having the surprise of color on the interior of the envelope highlights my idea of being colorful yet elegant. It is made out of a lightweight card stock.

Leave Behind My leave behind is a sketch book. This will remind my interviewers of me and my brand every time they use it since it is spread all over my deliverables. The inside cover is holds my logo and contact information, so it is easy to locate.

Social Media

My social media gives viewers a glimpse into my brand. My instagram page directly shows my projects through its posts and gives a detailed description of each, and my logo acts as my profile picture. For my linked in I used my brands texture as my cover photo, and used my mark as something they will later see if they scroll through my page. It is important that each of these connect back to my brand as much as possible considering employers can view this on their own time before or after an interview

Social House 7

Get ready for a dining experience like no other here in the Steel City. Izakaya style dining is a Japanese fusion of a Gastro Pub and a Tapas Bar. Social House features Japanese, Korean & Thai cuisine meant for sharing (or not!), craft cocktails & brews, and late night party vibes for celebrating. Social House is the destination for your next night out, client meeting, or lunch with friends Social House 7 is a stylish Japanese Izakaya featuring modern noodle dishes.

The management team took advantage of being shut down due to the pandemic and decided to do some renovations. Originally the Social House was just a Japanese restaurant, after my revisions, it now features a dining room and nine hibachi tables.

Uffizi Museum

The purpose of my design “The Circuit”, is to create an outdoor gathering space, that doubles as a transition from the museum to ground level. Visitors can travel through time as they move through the modern additions, to the historical art pieces inside the galleries, then visit the ancient Roman ruins below the earth. By reusing some of Uffizi’s unique materials these new and modern additions should blend well with the original building even though it was built over 400 years ago. This design connects the exit level of the Uffizi Museum to the ground level of the Piazza del Grano through a system of ramps and stairs. In result a public gathering space is created, creating a new recognizable space to tourists, and finally gives the Uffizi Museum an exit it deserves that is just as memorable as the entrance.

Ruin Room

Materials Terracotta Flooring- The original flooring used on the main level of the Uffizi. I wanted to keep this material because it shows the history and culture of the building Stucco was used on the exterior of the building, but I chose a gray stucco as the ramping and stair material along with the flooring material in the ruin room. IC Acoustics’, perforated acoustic wooden wall panels are made up of MDF board pasted with melamine sheet at the front side and fiberglass tissue at the back side

Wood Accent Wall- In every room on the main level I used this rustic wood to draw users to the main area of the space.

Luna Bar & Restaurant

Stephanie Murray, Erin Socha, Wesley Taylor

Working in a team of two architects and three interior designers we created Luna. Luna encourages experiential learning through the discovery of self. This discovery radiates from the individual, positively impacting the social fabric of OTR. Inspired by the golden ratio, the landscape encourages visitors to circulate towards the core of Luna. The market encompassing the core provides the first glimpse of the farm to table process, providing an interactive or passive depending on the visitors desired discovery.

The restaurant was completely redone and doesn’t show any history of the space. It is a complete contrast to when you go lower into the space where everywhere you turn you can see the history.

Erin Socha

The Lower Level of the site was made up of many vaults. I wanted to keep the ascetic and unique design these vaults brought to the space.

Branding I created the branding for this project. I started by creating a logo then incorporating it on promotional items, which included: coffee sleeves, take-out bags, and stickers. Then I created all the menus: restaurant menu, cocktail menu, dessert menu, and kids menu. Stephanie Murray

Basement Renovation

A local family contacting me hoping to finish their basement. They had hired a contractor, but he wasn’t good at coming up with creative ideas, so thats where I came into play. The family knew what spaces they wanted but didn’t know how they could all work together. I was provided with a wish list which included: a TV space, game room, bar, gym, and sauna. Finally, they wanted the theme of the space to be wine.

This is wine wall is the feature piece of the basement, Not only does it function as a storage unit, but it also can be a piece of art. The wine labels provide color to the space and draw guests eyes.

A struggle with this space were the four posts at the center of the room. I decided to cut this space of more by putting a couch in-between them. The couch functions as walls. It brings people together.

Made By Hand

Mounted Desk

I was inspired by modular furniture for this desk. Being a student small apartments are sometimes all we can afford so this desk not only could work as a shelving system when its closed, but opens to be a desk.

Design/Build/Use Using recycled materials, my group wanted to create the ideal storage solution. We took advantage of every free inch we could take in order to put in shelving units. We used fishing wire to create pin up space, all while keeping our site lines across the room.

Cupcake Box The requirements for this project was to make a box, but it had to be significant to us in some way. I designed a cupcake box, since I love to bake and my first job was working at a bakery.

Herb Garden This herb garden was custom built completely out of cedar wood. I chose cedar since its naturally decay resistant and the knots make a beautiful finish. I started by measuring out the space, and giving it a quick sketch to imagine how it could work in the space. Then I moved into sketch up and created a 3-D model. Initially I planned on creating a tall and thinner piece to utilize some dead space on the patio, but after re-thinking my design it could potentially be hard to water the plants higher on the structure. So I decided to do more horizontal and therefore more of the greenery could be seen from the indoors.

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
