For thirty-six years I had the best job at Purdue University! Purdue gave me a truck to drive and I cruised around the country-side working with some of the greatest people and some of the best cattle in the United States. They paid me well and paid excellent technicians to help me and sent students along to challenge me and hopefully these aspiring veterinarians learned some real world veterinary medicine. Webster’s dictionary defines retirement as “the act of ending your working or professional career”. I am retiring from Purdue University but I could not end a career that has been so rewarding for forty years. To celebrate this change in direction Mandy, Case, Joe, and Janie have put together a fantastic celebration. For those of you that have never heard the “Flying Toasters” you are in for a real treat. And as usual Beutler’s will cater a delicious meal Friday evening and for the sale on Sunday. I have said that I wanted to have 100 good cows when I retired and at last count we have 108 cows. As Janie always says our herd is a 4-H project that got out of hand and Joe and I feel that the time is right to share some of our best genetics. We are selling all cows that are over five years and older. There are some fantastic cows (and my favorite cow) in this offering and some heifers from the best calf crop we have ever raised. Bring your best dancing shoes and an appetite to Horstman Cattle Company on Friday evening, October 10th and help Dr. Sheets and I celebrate our change in direction. Larry Horstman Semi-retirement…what does that mean? Well, for me it means after 34 years of practicing Dentistry five days a week and running 25 brood cows, I am now working for our son, Dr Kyle Sheets, two days a week and cutting the cow herd by half. What a great career I have been blessed with! The community has been so supportive and the people whom I have worked with in our office are top notch, friends they all are. Becky and I are enjoying more time with our six grand kids (seven by sale day ) and seeing Kyle, Allie, and Brittany’s families a little more regular. Being able to travel more is a plus to “semi-retirement” and we have decided to cut back the herd in half by selling young cows and breds (all are seven years or younger). Also, all of the show heifer prospects from the 2014 crop are in this offering, nothing is being held back. We are keeping our aged cows and a couple of recips only. I would be remiss not to say what a great opportunity we have had to be partners in the Factory Direct Sale from the get go. The entire Horstman family is the best! Dr. Larry and Joe are great cattlemen, awesome people, and it is an honor to have them as friends. Thanks, guys! Please come enjoy the fellowship all sale weekend and share our years of building these highly successful genetics. Hope to see you all at the 2014 Factory Direct Sale and Events. Rob Sheets

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • When you sell what you know is going to be a great one it always hurts a little. This one hurts, but the exciting part is that she is the first of what we expect to be years of excitement from her dam, LAH Adele 206Z. • 450B has already been named a champion as she was at her mother’s side as the pair was named Grand Cow/Calf Pair of the 2014 Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes. Her mother is possibly the most powerful daughter of the infamous Shawnee Miss 770P. Circle M and WLE own 450B’s famous grandam, 770P, known as the mother of WLE Uno Mas, WLE Swagger, WLE Big Deal, and WLE Twang not to mention females that find their way into donor pens around the country. • Her dam 206Z was herself Division Champion of the 2012 NAILE, Division Champion of the 2013 Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes, Grand Champion Purebred of the 2013 Indiana State Fair Open Show and as fore mentioned was named Champion Cow/Calf pair of the 2014 Simmental Breeders Sweepstakes. • 450B herself is a square hipped, feminine female that resembles her mother at every stage of the game. She has everything it takes to herself be a staple of any show string and any cow herd in the country. At sale time she will have been campaigned twice and is a pleasure to work with. People seem amazed we are offering 450B for sale but we have a guy who can make more and another guy who can insure her mother. • Entered in the American Royal and NAILE

THREE GENERATIONS OF EMPRESS FEMALES
• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • We messed up. We dove into this “Retirement Sale” project and proclaimed we would be selling our breeding age cows that were born in 2009 and prior and we cut pretty deep into one that only got flushed one time. She is a maternal sib to Empress 415! Her dam, LAH Empress 116, basically started it all for us when she was born here in 2001. • This female herself has produced females that have been retained by us as well as she produced LAH Emperor 208Z, an outstanding ½ blood SimAngus bull that was the high selling bull of the 2012 North American Select Simmental Sale at the NAILE and Reserve Division Champion there that same year. 208Z is now owned by Knapper Cattle. • She is as big of a Lookout daughter as you will find and as powerful as her sister 415 and she will take no time at all to prove her worth as she is due to calve Jan 1 to Northern Improvement. Come write your own Empress chapter! This cow is also already foundation registered with the ASA. • Bred to calve January 1, 2015 to NORTHERN IMPROVEMENT 4480 GF. Examined safe.

This has been his favorite cow all along. She produced Lot 5 in the 2013 Factory Direct sale that commanded $8,000 to Brett and Sam Foster of Otterbein, IN as well as a $4,500 female in the 2011 FDS. • This is an Empress female that traces back to the original Hacienda Empress 1 who is the dam of 116. • Bred to calve January 1, 2015 to SCC FIRST-N-GOAL GAF 114 (sexed female semen). She is a direct daughter of the Select Sires AI sire, SCC First-N-Goal GAF 114, who is a full sister to the 2013 NJAS Grand Champion and stems back to a daughter of the past North American and NWSS Champion, Famous 7001, back to the legendary Champion Hill Lady 2182, who is a brother to the only two-time ROV Show Heifer of the Year who sold for one-half interest for $45,000 and was the third top-selling female of the 2001 Champion Hill Sale. • Dam of this female is a maternal sister to the 2006 Reserve Grand Champion Owned Female of the NJAS, Champion Hill Lady 4618, who is also a maternal sister to the dam of the $5,000 selection of the Gillooly family through the 2012 Factory Direct Sale. • This female is a big time show heifer prospect and also a maternal sister to the $10,000 selection of Mary Patton through the 2013 Factory Direct Sale. • Entered in NAILE

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • Dam was our choice of cows from Dale Grubb’s program at the 2013 Genetic Opportunity. This cow bred back too soon and will be flushed for full sibs to this great female next year. • To compliment her phenotype, she is a total sweetheart to work with. Great lines and sweeping rib all while having that sweet neck and pretty head.

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • Sire: JF American Pride 0987X • Here is a sweet Baldy purebred with a royal pedigree. Her dam is the now famous and picturesque Lazy H Burn Right T26 who was herself Reserve Grand Champion Female of the 2009 NWSS; T26 is also a maternal sib to Lazy H Burn Baby Burn R34 which is the dam to the popular AI Sire FBF1 Combustible. • When you talk cow families in the Simmental breed you must talk about the Triple C Burn It Up N34L cow. This beautifully constructed Baldy female is marked like a champion as well. Her sire, JF American Pride, stems from the great WLE Cruisin Susan cow and was bred locally by Jack McCoy. • Entered in NAILE

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • Young, but pay attention. This is a full sister to STCC Long Haul 033X. • This heifer was purchased as an embryo package from Trennepohl Farms in their Right By Design Sale. When she was born we did two things: Put the balance of the eggs from that package in recips right away and bought a package on Long Haul. We are familiar with the T85 cow as well as she spent a good deal of time here in our donor lot during transplant. • This one is cool. This one is a purebred. This one has more than acceptable numbers and a predictable pedigree. T85 was the pick of the heifers at Yardley’s that year for Rist and Trennepohl. She should be a fun one for years to come. • Entered in NAILE

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • SELLING CHOICE OF LOT 11A OR 11B. • We are digging deep into our cow power. These full sisters were definitely made with purpose. Their mother, LAH Bando’s Pride 411, is a full sister to 12C that made a career of making good ones for Shawnee Cattle Co and WLE. We never got a chance to get a picture of 411 as she was injured when she was just getting started but we did quickly get her flushed to Pays To Dream. 411 was a stout Angus donor by Tehama Bando 155 out of a 9J9 cow. 411 was a Pride cow bred just like the immortal Precision bull but she was CLEAN of all known genetic defects. • These two are great cow prospects from the Pride cow family. But don’t be afraid to parade them in front of a judge that likes show heifers to look like cow prospects (strange concept isn’t it?). These females resemble T94 in many so ways when she herself was an open heifer.

• Owned by Horstman Cattle Co., LLC. • This one is stout! Horstman Cattle Company is also a customer of the Factory Direct Sale and we are pleased as can be with our 2013 purchase from Sennett Cattle. Her dam, 83U was herself Lot 29 in last year’s sale and she didn’t have far to go when the dust settled. • This one is very unique. She is big footed, big boned, sound long, deep, and pretty cool to look at. Her sire, FBFS Wheelman, made another powerful and attractive show heifer and donor prospect. 83U was herself a featured lot of Sanders Ranch as an open heifer. • Study this one. She has worked well to traditional Simmental bulls and we flushed her to Heat Wave and have been implanting those eggs for late March and April calves. • SimAngus and club calf producers should be thrilled with the fact that she is bred to calve early to an API specialist with sexed semen so you can get her flushed yourself and bred back to calve to whatever sire fits your program. • Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • Cows with a phenotype like this will keep someone in the cow business for a long, long time; not to mention that this one is a shining genetic gem in her own right, being a direct daughter of the breed matriarch Shawnee Miss 770P. • This heifer has had little to no feed her entire life and she ran with the cows all summer; in fact, the largest input that has been put into this one was the thought that went into figuring out a way to keep her fresh enough. It is really hard to make purebred Simmental cattle with this kind of moderation, smoothness, and fleshing ability. Genotypically speaking, this heifer is as unique and exciting as anything that we have to offer. • She brings together the best of both the Simmental maternal and terminal worlds with 770P and Upgrade. Her mating to The Answer should not only produce a progeny that impresses on paper, but with the stacked cow families and complementing body types at play, this calf should be a force to be reckoned with phenotypically. It’s a sad thought to think, let alone write, but 770P is not going to live and produce forever; get on the bandwagon while you still can. • This female is a full-sib to the $23,000 open heifer that sold to Trennepohl Farms in last year’s Factory Direct Sale. • Bred to calve February 21, 2015 to SP THE ANSWER 813.

Wesner Livestock Enterprises • Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • This female has truly been a source of excitement here before her momma even got her licked clean. Best part is, unlike other times that initial excitement has not declined but only grown with time. It is really hard to make high percent Simmental cattle with the soundness, smoothness, hair, and look found in this one. • We like to refer to this heifer as the “crossover” kind; one that with her added maternal advantages can run with the commercials in the showring, can be used in the continuation of high percent SimGenetics, spit out percentage progeny, and make show steers successfully at the conclusion of her ring campaign. • As if her phenotypic advantages are not enough, there is purple and substance on both sides of her pedigree; her dam was crowned the Reserve Champion Percentage Female at the National Western in 2010 and Uno Mas hung his at the North American two years ago. • This one comes highly recommended to both junior showmen and serious breeders alike. Take full advantage in our mistake of letting this one go.

• Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • We have always bought into the utilization of percentage SimGenetics in our program 100%, not only to increase performance in the traditional, economically important traits but also to propel phenotype to the next level. This heifer exemplifies those kinds of phenotypic advantages we have been after. Pretty as a picture, hairy, good fronted, and still fundamental past the bells and whistles. • We purchased her dam, that stems from the legendary Venus cow family, from Dr. Robin and Becky Sheets as an open heifer, and she has been a no-miss producer for us in terms of putting out highly marketable offspring each year. • Junior showmen take note here because this one is going to be fun to throw on the trailer and run.

Wesner Livestock Enterprises • Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises and Meadow Springs Farm. • There are always a couple in the pen that have all of the right pieces. This one is definitely one of those, and she responds to all of the right things. Chiseled from a rock, super good in her skeleton, and impeccable in her front 1/3, this heifer is the moneymaking, show-taking kind. Uno Mas is making his mark, putting out offspring that come easy, are impeccable in their structure, good uddered, and easy keeping. • A quick stroll through the Meadow Springs pasture and this one’s yearling full-sib finds you; with no looking necessary. It’s not often that you can drive a Corvette and get the mileage of a Prius in one; substance and economic advantages through lineage with all of the bells and whistles in this one. Pay attention here.

• Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • Our Uno Mas heifer babies have been a dream. This heifer is the recipient of all of those good traits her daddy consistently puts out: smooth as a ribbon, correct in her skeleton, soft middled, and docile. • Young exhibitors and 4-Hers take a close look here; this heifer gets better every day of her life and has that soft look, soft skin, and good hair that makes us believe she will make a competitive bred heifer. Her dam was purchased from Krieger Farms and goes back to a very successful cow family there. Take a closer look here come October.

Wesner Livestock Enterprises • Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises and Meadow Springs Farm. • In the open heifer pen we can all be guilty of overlooking completeness at times; when we do that what we are forgetting is that at the end of the day, whether it be in the show ring, as a bred or in the pasture, fundamentals still rule, fundamentals still win, and fundamentals still increase the bottom line. This heifer is nothing less than fault-free in her basic build. Deep, sound, and stout with all of the right pieces. • This heifer took weaning harder and was still a little green on picture day, but we have the utmost confidence that the in-touch showman and breeder will find this one come October. The Last Call calves to date have all had that extra substance of bone and added extension. Take a closer look here come sale day.

• Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • If you like your females stout and powerful with that ever “ladylike look” then Shez It. • This one is as impressive as any from a ¾ angle; she has extra substance to her foundation, that extra bulge to her center rib, and as powerful of a hip as we can put in one. Most impressive, she still manages to tie this all together into a smooth and sound package. Get past her impressive phenotype and on paper this one has the lineage to back it up. • A full-sib to this female made the steep cut into our small replacement pen last year. If you are looking for a heifer that you can competitively strap a show halter on and then go ahead and make the right kind of pasture cow, start your consideration here and we think you will find that you don’t have to look much further.

Wesner Livestock Enterprises • Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • Last fall at the Grubbs, Craft, and Stewart Genetic Opportunity Sale we found one that we couldn’t let slip through our hands and purchased this female’s dam as the high-selling lot from Stewart Select Angus. It has only taken this one calf to make us a true believer. It is not always or often that a purebred Angus heifer can run in a pen of Simmental cattle and match the substance, performance, and muscle offered up. This one more than can. Sturdy, perfect angles, and feminine are all descriptors that come to mind when illustrating this one. • Whether you are in the market for a competitive Angus show heifer, a female to use in a percentage Simmental scheme, or one to make more purebred Angus offspring we have the utmost confidence in this one. Don’t believe us, come take a look at this one’s momma in the pasture.

• Owned by Wesner Livestock Enterprises. • SELLING A FLUSH TO THE BULL OF THE BUYER’S CHOICE. Guaranteeing a minimum of six embryos, no cap, buyer stands flush expenses, ET work to be done by Dr. Larry Horstman. • With a small breeding herd of only about 40 head, each year we struggle with the fact that there are cows running in the pasture that are underutilized. Here is your chance to utilize one of our best, if not our very best, purebred Angus females. • Left open by design, with just this sale in mind; this cow impresses not only from a numeric value on paper standpoint, an Angus lineage standpoint, and a phenotypic standpoint, but most importantly from her previous production record here in the past two years. • Purchased only two years ago out of the Genetic Opportunity Sale from Stewart Select Angus, this cow has laid down and had two very impressive purebred Angus sons that combined have paid for her ten-fold. In a beef industry won by dollars and sense, flushing this cow just makes sense that leads right on to dollars. • We think you will find as you study this cow that the mating possibilities are endless here: keep her pure, find a Simmental bull, mate her clubby; collect your checks.
