EPDS

The EPDs for API and TI (see Glossary) are the latest available.

GLOSSARY

All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

PARTNERSHIP LOTS

In the case of bull partnership lots, the new partner will have first choice to decide what 60 days they will be able to breed the bull. All decisions relating to the possession, showing, promotion, collecting of semen, and marketing will be mutually agreed upon prior to the transaction with both parties dividing all future expenses and net revenue. Female partnership lots will be owned 50/50 with all future production being coowned. The partner with possession will receive $250 per year for maintenance from the other partner. A partner that is selling their interest must give the other partner the right to match any bona fide guaranteed offer prior to selling their interest to a third party. Contract on these lots will be available on sale day.

Sale Participants MCCRARY FARMS

TRIPLE P RANCH

We are proud to mark our 16th year as Simbrah breeders and excited for Synergy VIII! Mark and I continue working to improve the quality of our herd, by utilizing the best sire power the Simbrah and Simmental breeds have to offer. Our current herd includes sire genetics of Smith Evan, Smith Nu Approach, NF Smith Sargeant, Smith McCrary Andy, Smith McCrary Matt, Smith Isgrig Charismatic, Smith McCrary Fireball, Smith RFI MCCR Gangster and our herd sire out of Andy, McCrary Smith Inspired. We are long time supporters of the junior program, and have been avid supporters and sponsors of many local FFA and 4-H programs. Our place is located in the northeast corner of Texas in the town of DeKalb, just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana borders near Texarkana. Congratulations to our nephew Zach Krueger, who graduated from Texas A&M University this May and commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. Zach grew up showing in our junior program and continues to make us proud! Come see our cattle and now four grandchildren. A special THANKS goes to Tim Smith who has worked so hard to make all of this possible!

Once again it is with great pleasure that Triple “P” Ranch invites everyone to Synergy VIII. We continue to improve our herd through some very selective breeding with a strong emphasis on AI and embryo transfer. We do not have any cattle in this year’s sale, but plan to be back with a number of high quality lots in 2016. As always our ranch door is always open. Stop by or give us a call to talk cattle or just to “shoot the bull”.

HAGAN CATTLE COMPANY

Cattle have always been a part of our lives as we are involved in the registered, commercial and sale barn segments of the beef cattle. Our registered program started as an extension of our boys, Reinhard and Reese’s show projects. Our seed stock program has become synonymous with show ring champions and we believe our offering is our strongest yet, with many candidates headed to the winner’s circle. We are a family operation with Reese heading up the sale and show management for our purebred operation. All three generations of our family want to welcome you to the sale and thank you for your interest in Simbrah.

TRIPLE J RANCH

The Triple J Ranch has been owned by the Tortorice family and has been breeding Simbrah cattle for over 25 years. Recently the Triple J has undergone a few changes. Jake and Amber have taken the reins and the largest part of the registered herd as part of their own operation, Tortorici Ranch. Mary and Jake look forward to more free time for travel and grandchildren and less responsibility and farm work! We will continue to work together to produce quality animals as a family for years and generations to come. The past few years both our programs have been utilizing more embryo transfer and artificial insemination to capitalize on some of the most powerful animals in the breed. Through the careful guidance of Tim Smith, we have been adding quality genetics to our programs through sire power and proven cow families. The influence of these powerful genetics on our herd has been incredible. We are excited about new females introduced to our program from She Moves, Priceless, Annie Lou, and Tulipe families. We strive to produce gentle, hardy cattle that are structurally correct, made to perform and built to last. Our herd continues to improve with every calf that hits the ground. We also added the power of Detonator this year. We are pleased to present a beautiful reflection of our combined herds to offer at this year’s Synergy Sale. We will have Rao’s coffee and breakfast at the show! Come see us!

DIAMOND RF FARMS

Diamond RF Farms is once again excited to be a participant in this Synergy event and look forward to a packed weekend filled with viewing great cattle, meeting new people and visiting with old friends. We are officially moved and settled into our new home in Floresville and enjoying the green pastures we currently have for the cattle to graze. Our herd is small, but we feel the quality is in every animal we sell. If you have any questions regarding our lots we have in this Synergy’s event please give us a call and if you are in our area we invite you to stop by to see our cattle.

PINE RIDGE RANCH

BURCH FARMS

Pine Ridge Ranch purchased its first two Fleckvieh Simmental bulls in 1977. We placed them on our commercial Brahman cross cows and obtained a noticeably improved calf crop. In 1981, Pine Ridge Ranch wrote a specification to produce the most efficient, tender, high quality carcass, hot weather cattle in the world. The specification proved to be very accurate and useful in Pine Ridge’s extraordinary breeding herd today. Hot weather cattle are produced at much less expense than Northern range cattle…… less cost of land, hay, equipment, and labor. Imagine producing economical hot weather cattle with a more valuable carcass than Angus. Study our website, www.simbrah.com, to see these results. Pine Ridge tests have proved the unique qualities of our breeding program. Currently, Pine Ridge is the second largest producer of Simgenetics in Texas…. And has generally been in the top three Simgenetic breeders in Texas over the last 20 years. Pine Ridge Ranch is the largest Simbrah producer in the United States. Jane and I invite you to visit. Please give us a call and schedule a tour. We anticipate having approximately 900 registered Simbrah on our ranch in late October. We believe that your visit will help you develop ideas and direction.

We have had a good year and the cattle market is historically high. We are proud to be Simbrah breeders and a part of the Synergy Sale. We hope you will be able to attend the premier event of the breed. We have had record rains, good grass and cattle prices are strong. We have been blessed. Our special blessing this year was the birth of our fifth grandchild, William Irven Burch, “Wild Willie”. Will is a sixth generation rancher and I am sure he will follow his dad’s footsteps in the show ring and be a good cowman. We are proud of all our grandkids and it is a lively time when we are able to get them all together. The success of Satisfies’ progeny has been the top highlight of our program. We own him with Smith Genetics and we are offering a semen package on Satisfies in this sale. He can be a herd changer for your program. The Burch family invites you to Synergy. I personally invite you to come and hang out with Wild Willie and me for a really enjoyable day. I want to thank Tim for all he does for Synergy and the Simbrah breed. See you there.

NIESCHWIETZ 7N RANCH

We would like to take the time to welcome everyone to Synergy. A big thanks goes out to Tim for all of his help and support. And thank you to all of the juniors, parents, breeders and everyone who comes out and makes this a huge success. It would not be possible without you. We hope you like the lots we have chosen for this year’s sale. We have been trying to improve the quality of our cowherd by utilizing superior genetics and proven cow families and hope you can see the improvements we’ve made. We have added to our bull battery this year with Fireball, Detonator, Advantage and Polled Patron. We are very excited about these new bulls and their first calves, which will be hitting the ground shortly. There are also the proven genetics of Smooth Operator, Wave Amigo and Gumb-their calves you can see in our offering. We believe we brought in a really nice set of young heifers that will have success in the show ring and then make nice additions to your cowherd when their show careers are finished. We also brought in a good set of bred cows, which were AI’d to our new herd sires. This will be the first offering out of these bulls and we hope you are all as excited, as we are to see the first calves out of these bulls. We look forward to visiting with everyone and show you our cattle. It’s been a wild ride; let’s keep the momentum going. Hope to see y’all there.

REAVIS FARMS

We are a diversified family operation with Simbrahs, cotton, grain sorghum, onions and watermelons. We have been involved with Simbrahs since 1987 and are still excited about the breed. We have our best calves, yet, on the ground from sires including RFI Real Deal, Nu Wave II, Sargeant, Smith Evan, RFI Thunderstruck, Smith McCrary Fireball and Smith Detonator. We continue to add donor power to our home raised RFI Smith Tinkerbell, the 2009 San Antonio Grand Champion and the 2009 AJSR Champion. Recent Reavis standouts include RFI Ritzy, the 2011 National Champion Female for Winston Walters; RFI Smith Fresh Approach, the 2011 National Reserve Grand Champion Female; RFI Real Deal, the 2014 ASA National and National at San Antonio and the 2015 National Champion, Smith RFI Sweet Deb. We are very proud of our offering for Synergy V1II and extend and invitation to you to the fall event of the breed.

SOUTHWESTERN FARMS

HALLAK RANCH

The Hill family may be new to Simbrah, but they’ve been raising cattle commercially since 1972 in deep East Texas, near Kirbyville. The family operation is headed by Ray and Suzanne Hill, along with their two daughters and their families, Samantha Palmore and Heather Rieve. Both girls competed in rodeos from junior high through college and have continued their involvement in the family business. The Hill’s oldest granddaughter, Savannah earned a Houston Livestock Show Scramble certificate in 2010 and after some research, they decided to buy a Simbrah. That research led them to Smith Genetics and as they say the rest is history. They made purchases at Synergy IV-VII, including the donors, Oprah, Diva, Rita, Juliet and Black Mystic. They have also added the bull power of RFI Real Deal, Xtra Ordinary and Blackfoot. In 2014, their granddaughter, Sophie Palmore showed Smith Wentz Diamond Diva to the International Grand Champion title and they expect their third granddaughter, Stella Rieve to show Simbrahs too. They are thrilled to be a participant in Synergy VIII and want to extend a special thanks to Tim Smith for introducing them to the breed and helping them establish a quality herd based on some of the most elite genetics in the breed.

Billy Hallak first came to Texas in 1985 from Egypt. It was always his dream to own a ranch and cattle. He made good on that dream and from 1985-1998, ranched outside of Athens, Texas and established one of the premier Simbrah herds. HR Power House I carry is a product of Hallak Ranch, as well as the female HR Memphis Belle. Billy returned to Egypt for several years to handle family business. He and his wife, Malika, who is from Paris, France, returned to Athens in 2011 and began building their Simbrah program again. They were able to purchase an embryo that was a full sib to HR Power House I and a daughter of Memphis Belle. In addition, they are using Mr. Strack Y254 heavily in their herd. Their ranch is 6.5 miles south of Athens, off of Hwy 19.

HONEYCUTT CATTLE CO.

Cheryl and I bought our ranch, left California and moved to Floresville, Texas in 1993. We’ve never looked back. We began with a commercial operation, but began raising registered Simbrah cattle in 2004 after our daughter, Amanda, caught a calf at the Houston Rodeo Calf Scramble. Our first purchase was from Roy Baring, who has served as a mentor over the years. We fell in love with the breed. Our youngest daughter, Michelle, became interested in showing cattle, so we increased our registered Simbrah cattle herd to aid in her success. In 2012, we moved our ranching operation to Mabank in East Texas and have renewed our commitment to raising quality Simbrah cattle. All of us at Honeycutt Ranch are excited to be involved in SYNERGY VIII and look forward to seeing all of our old and new friends.

MONTE CHRISTO CATTLE CO.

Efficient productivity is what we’re all about. Monte Christo Cattle Company is located in the center of the fertile Rio Grande Valley. Nestled among lush citrus orchards, our ranch enjoys the longest warm-weather growing season in America. In combination with automatic irrigation systems and cool season clovers, we can produce high quality forage year round, allowing us to achieve a higher stocking density and better body condition in our cattle. Our emphasis on fertility is a prime objective in herd management as well. Through stringent record keeping and rigorous selection, we engineer and maintain females that produce quality and fast growing progeny with a dependable calving frequency. The combination of dependable forage and the selection of high performance genetics have allowed us to assemble one of the largest and most diverse herds in the area. We believe in “more pounds and more money per pound”. We’re grateful to Tim Smith for his invitation to participate in Synergy and we’re excited about the opportunity to mingle with fellow Simbrah breeders. Margie and I invite you to visit us at Monte Christo Ranch.

SMITH FARMS

Ronnie Smith’s love for Simgenetics can be traced back to Simmental’s arrival in the U.S. He built a Simmental herd and was also a breeder of Brahmentals, which was the original name of today’s Simbrahs. In addition, for more than 10 years, he was involved with SimAngus genetics in New Mexico. Today, he and his wife, Susan are focusing their efforts on raising Simbrahs and SimAngus HT. Their herd sire battery features top lines, including William N Black, Smith Hi Caliber, and a Yardley bred bull to name a few. Females lining their embryo transfer program include a LMC She Moves daughter, as well as the 2011 Houston Junior Show Reserve Grand Champion Female. Smith Farms has also purchased embryos from the Smith Bella Bella cow that won every major and junior show in Texas and a flush in the great Diva, the dam of Dream Girl, who also won the purple at all the Texas shows. In addition, they are maintaining an elite herd of ¼ x ¾ foundation females for the purpose of outcrossing new bloodlines into their Simbrah herd. Ronnie and Susan are excited to be part of Synergy and invite you to visit their program, outside of Denton, Texas, just 35 miles north of Fort Worth. 4

SMITH GENETICS

We want to thank everyone for your involvement in Synergy. The success of events 1-VII was overwhelming and it drives Smith Genetics to raise the bar on quality in Synergy VIII’s offering. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah, Simmental and a registered horse division in Tim’s home state of Kentucky. We have developed a number of elite cow families and we are proud to be the breeders of the following sires, who are being utilized heavily in this breed: Smith Nu Wave I and II, Fireball, Detonator, Sargeant, Charismatic, Evan, Nu Approach, Satisfies, Xtra Ordinary Ronen, Andy, Matt, Stout and William. Our cattle have been very well received this year in the show ring, including the 2015 National Champion Female honor. This event happens because of the hard work of a lot of people, quality cattle from the participants and the attendance and support of buyers and junior exhibitors. We are thankful to each for your part and we are proud to host Synergy. Here’s a big welcome to you to the event and to Smith Genetics.

Using Indexes to Advance Your Program By Wade Shafer

Economic selection indexes were first introduced by Iowa State scientist, Lenoy Hazel, in 1943. Best described as “genetic accounting”, economic indexes blend an animal’s genetic levels along with commodity prices to predict the impact the animal will have on profit when used for breeding. Economic indexes have long been accepted by animal geneticists as the most effective means of making genetic progress for profit and, consequently, have been heavily utilized by the pig, poultry and dairy industries for years. Not surprisingly, the genetic progress made on those species through the use of indexes has been phenomenal--far eclipsing the progress made in beef cattle. By using ASA’s All Purpose and Terminal Indexes, you too can leverage the power of the economic selection index--there is no better tool in the beef industry for making selection decisions!

We are excited to be part of Synergy and have selected lots that we are not only proud of, but really didn’t want to part with either. This is a yearling daughter of PRR Prevail, who ranks in the top 4% of the breed for API and 10% for TI. He also ranks in the top 1% of the breed for ADG and MCE, plus he has a 3% ranking for Marbling and BF and a top 5% for YG and top 10% for CW. Prevail is the leading sire of registrations in South Africa. Adding this female to your herd will add superior carcass traits. The dam carries LMC Moneymaker breeding. Note her volume, straight lines, overall balance and dimension. We will offer semen from any of our herd sires, including Smith McCrary Fireball and our three-quarter blood sire, RFI Red Raider. Here is a great opportunity to own one of the most proven and productive cows in the Smith and Reavis partnership. Princess Sissy is the first daughter out of our popular champion RFI Princess and she needs to be in an embryo transplant program just like her dam when you consider her production record, impeccable pedigree and top ranking API of 10% and TI of 1%. She is made the same way as her mother-- tons of middle, level hip, and one of the best front ends in the breed. She is sired by Nu Wave II and he has had a mammoth impact on the Simbrah breed and not just from a phenotypical standpoint. His EPDs are phenomenal and have led this breed to new heights. However, it’s not just the EPDs, it’s the accuracies that go with them. That allows the breeder confidence and security when breeding Nu Wave II genetics. Now that Nu Wave II is deceased his daughters are and will continue to be tightly held assets. This cow will immediately go to the forefront of her new owner’s herd. Take a hard look at her June heifer calf at side sired by Real Deal, she has show prospect written all over her with a championship pedigree to match and phenomenal dollar indexes of top 3% API and 1% TI. The Synergy participants have committed to making the offering at Synergy have something for all buyers, so we dug deep to find a great spring calving heifer for the offering. This replacement female is a daughter of Smith Satisfies and his progeny in production are proving to be beautiful uddered, excellent milking cows. 155Z is an exceptionally feminine, long-spined female that stems from the Pine Ridge Ranch breeding program on the dam’s side and is backed by strong maternal and carcass traits. This female sells safe in calf to the National Champion, RFI Real Deal. The combination of Real Deal and Satisfies on our young calves is proving to be a great match with lots of performance and that desirable red color pattern. 155Z sells with two straws of semen from Southwestern Farms or Smith Genetics breeding programs. Bred to RFI Real Deal 5/31/15 with an ECD (Expected Calving Date) of 3/10/16.

Juliet Cow Family The Juliet Cow Family members have made their mark in the breed with two Houston Champion Females, Wentz Smith Superior Mom in 2012 with Candice Tindle on the halter and Smith Wentz CRC Keepsake in 2014 with Caleb Rodenbeck on the halter. The winning didn’t stop there, the third generation, Smith CRC Amber Keepsake, won the 2015 prestigious Superbowl with Carlye Rodenbeck at the halter and we believe 86C has the same ability to go out and stand in the purple. She is a January heifer that excels in muscle and volume, but still carries that beautiful, striking, front end that the Juliet daughters are known for. This heifer is the first Smith Rhett daughter to sell at public auction and her pedigree combines both the Juliet and Bella Bella Cow Families – we think this is a winning combination! Don’t forget to study her numbers as breed percentages rank her in the top 3% for API and top 10% for TI. This heifer qualifies for all the premium events such as Synergy Showcase, Superbowl and MAS Showdown! Be sure and study the potential of this royally bred, high performing female! Sells open.

Tulipe - Bella Bella - Ciao Bella Mi Bella Cara Cow Family

Smith Bella Bella

Smith Tulipe 765L

Smith Detonator Bella Bella is without a doubt one of the best cows in the Simbrah breed and several breeders claim her to be the best all around. She is ideal in type and structure as a cow. Smith Bella Bella was the 2007 International Houston Smith Mi Bella Cara Champion and then her daughter, Smith Ciao Bella followed mom’s footsteps when crowned the 2011 International Houston Champion. Then to no surprise the third generation continued the winning tradition when Smith Charming Moves was named “The Supreme American Breed Champion at the 2013 Houston Junior Show.” Smith Charming Moves is sired by the Bella Bella son, Smith Evan and this was the first time a Simbrah ever won this title! That makes three generations of International Champions and the legacy continues as the fourth generation of calves have been born with one selling jointly by Smith Genetics and Diamond RF Farms as Lot 65!!! Bella Bella has generated over $350,000 in revenue from progeny and embryo sales, including the half interest in Smith Bella Fresca that sold to 7N Ranch and Southwestern Farms for $24,000 in last year’s sale, which addresses the demand for her genetic power! Study the multiple offerings selling from this breed leading cow family and take advantage of the investment opportunities and breeding pieces each presents. Genetics coming from cow families that have become household names in the Simbrah breed have built-in marketing ability. All of these individuals have the proven pedigree and breed notoriety to make great additions to the most elite of breeding programs.

Selling 1 package containing 5 units of frozen semen. Bella Bella has done it again -- no surprise to us! Rhett has been held exclusively by Smith Genetics and is now being introduced to the public. This bull possesses the correct amount of bone, muscle, substance, and total internal dimension needed to become a breed-changing icon! His picture tells his story better than any footnote we can write. Rhett’s pedigree and outstanding EPDs, including his dollar indexes in the top 1% for All Purpose Index (API) and top 2% for Terminal Index (TI), indicate the true breeding potential of this young sire. This sire is being used heavily in the Smith Genetics program and will continue to highlight our advertising campaign.
