SEMEN POLICY

EPDS

RANCH LOCATION

The EPDs for API and TI (see Glossary) are the latest available.

GLOSSARY

All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

PARTNERSHIP LOTS

In the case of bull partnership lots, the new partner will have first choice to decide what 60 days they will be able to breed the bull. All decisions relating to the possession, showing, promotion, collecting of semen, and marketing will be mutually agreed upon prior to the transaction with both parties dividing all future expenses and net revenue. Female partnership lots will be owned 50/50 with all future production being coowned. The partner with possession will receive $250 per year for maintenance from the other partner. A partner that is selling their interest must give the other partner the right to match any bona fide guaranteed offer prior to selling their interest to a third party. Contract on these lots will be available on sale day.

Sale Participants MCCRARY FARMS

TRIPLE P RANCH

We are proud to mark our 17th year as Simbrah breeders and excited for Synergy IX! Mark and I continue working to improve the quality of our herd, by utilizing the best sire power the Simbrah and Simmental breeds have to offer. Our current herd includes sire genetics of Smith Evan, Smith Nu Approach, NF Smith Sargeant, Smith McCrary Andy, Smith McCrary Matt, Smith Isgrig Charismatic, and McCrary Smith Inspired. We are long time supporters of the junior program, and have been avid supporters and sponsors of many local FFA and 4-H programs. Our place is located in the northeast corner of Texas in the town of De Kalb, just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana borders near Texarkana. Come see our cattle and now four grandchildren. A special THANKS goes to Tim Smith who has worked so hard to make all of this possible!

Once again it is with great pleasure that Triple “P” Ranch invites everyone to Synergy IX. We continue to improve our herd through some very selective breeding with a strong emphasis on AI and embryo transfer. We do not have any cattle in this year’s sale, but plan to be back with a number of quality lots next year. As always our ranch door is always open. Stop by or give us a call to talk cattle or just to “shoot the bull.”

HAGAN CATTLE COMPANY

Cattle have always been a part of our lives as we are involved in the registered, commercial and sale barn segments of the beef industry. Our registered program started as an extension of our boys, Reinhard and Reese’s show projects. Our seed stock program has become synonymous with show ring champions and we believe our offering is our strongest yet, with many candidates headed to the winner’s circle. We are a family operation with Reese heading up the sale and show management for our purebred operation. All three generations of our family want to welcome you to the sale and thank you for your interest in Simbrah.

TRIPLE J RANCH

The Triple J Ranch has undergone some changes in the past few years. We have combined the herds of our families into one. We strive to produce gentle, hardy cattle that are structurally correct, made to perform and built to last! We continue to work towards improving the quality of our herd through the introduction of superior genetics. We want to make cattle that can grow on the land. For several years now we have been trying to go to a more forage based, rotational grazing program. We want to produce cattle that can go to the show and that will be able to survive and thrive on pasture later as breeding adults. We have an extensive heifer development program aimed at the replacement female. Through sire power and the influence of proven cow families we have been transforming our herd to capitalize on some of the best that Simbrah has to offer. Thank you Tim Smith for the more than 20 years of help and mentorship. With Tim’s careful guidance, we continue to utilize some of the most impactful and powerful genetics available. We are pleased to present a few of the fruits of our labor at this year’s Synergy Sale. We stand behind our cattle, bid with confidence! We will have Rao’s coffee and breakfast at the event! Come see us.

DIAMOND RF FARMS

Diamond RF Farms entered the cattle business in 2001 and quickly settled on the Simbrah and Simmental breeds shortly thereafter. Since then we have kept our herd focused on quality, and longevity rather than the quantity of cattle we house. Carefully hand selecting females of great maternal strength and strong EPDs, allows us to produce show prospects, replacement heifers, and highly marketable bulls. We utilize embryo transfer on our most elite females and strive to put together functional mating’s that will meet the needs of our clients and their vision. We would love for you to stop in anytime, evaluate our cattle, and possibly fall in love with your next champion. We all would like to say thanks for coming to Synergy IX and look forward to visiting with everyone. 2

REAVIS FARMS

BURCH FARMS

We are a diversified family operation with Simbrahs, cotton, grain sorghum, onions and watermelons. We have been involved with Simbrahs since 1987 and are still excited about the breed. We have our best calves, yet, on the ground from sires including Charismatic, Nu Wave II, Sargeant, Smith Evan, RFI Thunderstruck and Smith Also N Red. We continue to add donor power to our home raised RFI Smith Tinkerbell, the 2009 San Antonio Grand Champion and the 2009 AJSR Champion. Recent Reavis standouts include RFI Ritzy, the 2011 National Champion Female for Winston Walters; RFI Smith Fresh Approach, the 2011 National Reserve Grand Champion Female; RFI Real Deal, the 2014 ASA National and National at San Antonio and the 2015 and 2016 National Champion, Smith RFI Sweet Deb. We are very proud of our offering for Synergy IX and extend and invitation to you to the fall event of the breed.

We have had a very good year at Burch Farms. We were blessed with our sixth grandchild. David Barta was born in February. Martha and I celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary in June. We had all six of our grandchildren with us for the 4th of July and things were really busy around the house. Looking back, we have been blessed with a wonderful family and good health. Our cattle continue to improve and we have had ample rains to make this a successful year. We hope you will be able to make it to the Synergy Sale this year and join us for one of the premier events in the Simbrah breed. The Burch family invites you to Synergy and hope you will be there. We thank Tim and his crew for making this event possible.

PEBBLE CREEK FARM

It is with great pride that we are participating in Synergy IX this year, and we are grateful for this opportunity. Although we are new as consignors to Synergy, we are not new in the promotion of SimGenetics, or the Simmental and Simbrah breeds. Having begun our involvement in Simmental in 1975, we are now in our 41st year with the breed. Our very first females came from well-known pioneers for American Simmental programs led by great ranchers such as Wm. Roden, John Hewes, Kintyre Farms and Colville Jackson, Tom Risinger, Rio Vista Farms, John Rockefeller, and John & Connis Ryan Ranch. When we decided to reconfigure the herd to include Simbrah, we looked to the Carlos Guerra Family’s La Muneca Ranch and of course, Tim Smith and Smith Genetics. They have all had a tremendous impact on helping us establish our program, goals and directions. My parents, William and Jean Barth, (Riverplace Farms, LTD) were the first in our family to purchase Simmental cattle, after running a commercial Brangus operation for several years on land first settled by my ancestors in the early 1850’s in Dewitt County. When the opportunity to start the first Simmental herd in Dewitt County was realized, we jumped right in and never looked back. Now, along with my son Bobby as herdsman, we are the second and third generations of Simmental/Simbrah breeders and are excited to bring our program to both new and established breeders. We are encouraged as all six grandchildren have expressed interest in the cattle. Early morning and late evening rides through the pastures bring smiles and giggles into our lives. Watching their faces and hearing them shriek with enthusiasm brings a gentle peace to our hectic world and for that I am also grateful. Our current herd sire is Smith Unrivaled. He is sired by Smith Satisfies and has the prestigious Bella Bella as his dam. All of our current offerings for the sale are generously embedded with leading genetics including Nu Wave, Andy Black, Matt, Vintage, Fierce, Ronen, Satisfies, Nu Approach, Charismatic, Sargeant, Bella Bella, Tulipe, Smith B Ann E, and many more. We hope you will enjoy our offering, as much as we have enjoyed building it.

NIESCHWIETZ 7N RANCH

We would like to take the time to welcome everyone to Synergy. A big thanks goes out to Tim for all of his help and support. And thank you to all of the juniors, parents, breeders and everyone who comes out and makes this a huge success. It would not be possible without you. We hope you like the lots we have chosen for this year’s sale. We have been trying to improve the quality of our cowherd by utilizing superior genetics and proven cow families and hope you can see the improvements we’ve made. We have added to our bull battery with Fireball, Detonator, Advantage and Polled Patron. We are very excited about these new bulls and their calves. We believe we brought in a really nice set of young heifers that will have success in the show ring and then make nice additions to your cowherd when their show careers are finished. We also brought in a good set of bred cows, which were AI’d to our sires. We hope you are all as excited, as we are to see the first calves out of these bulls. We look forward to visiting with everyone and show you our cattle. It’s been a wild ride; let’s keep the momentum going. Hope to see y’all there.

MONTE CHRISTO CATTLE CO.

SMITH FARMS

Efficient productivity is what we’re all about. Monte Christo Cattle Company is located in the center of the fertile Rio Grande Valley. Nestled among lush citrus orchards, our ranch enjoys the longest warm-weather growing season in America. In combination with automatic irrigation systems and cool season clovers, we can produce high quality forage year round, allowing us to achieve a higher stocking density and better body condition in our cattle. Our emphasis on fertility is a prime objective in herd management as well. Through stringent record keeping and rigorous selection, we engineer and maintain females that produce quality and fast growing progeny with a dependable calving frequency. The combination of dependable forage and the selection of high performance genetics have allowed us to assemble one of the largest and most diverse herds in the area. We believe in “more pounds and more money per pound”. We’re grateful to Tim Smith for his invitation to participate in Synergy and we’re excited about the opportunity to mingle with fellow Simbrah breeders. Margie and I invite you to visit us at Monte Christo Cattle Co.

Ronnie Smith’s love for Simgenetics can be traced back to Simmental’s arrival in the U.S. He built a Simmental herd and was also a breeder of Brahmentals, which was the original name of today’s Simbrahs. In addition, for more than 10 years, he was involved with SimAngus genetics in New Mexico. Today, he and his wife, Susan are focusing their efforts on raising Simbrahs and SimAngus HT. Their herd sire battery features top lines, including William N Black, Smith Hi Caliber, and a Yardley bred bull to name a few. Females lining their embryo transfer program include a LMC She Moves daughter, as well as the 2011 Houston Junior Show Reserve Grand Champion Female. Smith Farms has also purchased embryos from the Smith Bella Bella cow that won every major and junior show in Texas and a flush in the great Diva, the dam of Dream Girl, who also won the purple at all the Texas shows. In addition, they are maintaining an elite herd of ¼ x ¾ foundation females for the purpose of outcrossing new bloodlines into their Simbrah herd. Ronnie and Susan are excited to be part of Synergy and invite you to visit their program, outside of Denton, Texas, just 35 miles north of Fort Worth.

SMITH GENETICS

We want to thank everyone for your involvement in Synergy. The success of events 1-VIII was overwhelming and it drives Smith Genetics to raise the bar on quality in Synergy IX’s offering. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah, Simmental and a registered horse division in Tim’s home state of Kentucky. We have developed a number of elite cow families and we are proud to be the breeders of the following sires, who are being utilized heavily in this breed: Smith Nu Wave I and II, Fireball, Detonator, Sargeant, Rhett, Lubbock, Nu Mark, Charismatic, Evan, Nu Approach, Satisfies, Xtra Ordinary, Ronen, Andy, Matt, Stout and William. Our cattle have been very well received this year in the show ring, including the 2016 National Champion Female honor. This event happens because of the hard work of a lot of people, quality cattle from the participants and the attendance and support of buyers and junior exhibitors. We are thankful to each for your part and we are proud to host Synergy. Here’s a big welcome to the event and to Smith Genetics.

HALLAK RANCH

Billy Hallak first came to Texas in 1985 from Egypt. It was always his dream to own a ranch and cattle. He made good on that dream and from 1985-1998, ranched outside of Athens, Texas and established one of the premier Simbrah herds. HR Power House I carry is a product of Hallak Ranch, as well as the female HR Memphis Belle. Billy returned to Egypt for several years to handle family business. He and his wife, Malika, who is from Paris, France, returned to Athens in 2011 and began building their Simbrah program again. They were able to purchase an embryo that was a full sib to HR Power House I and a daughter of Memphis Belle. In addition, they are using Mr. Strack Y254 heavily in their herd. Their ranch is 6.5 miles south of Athens, off of Hwy 19.

Our good friend Bill Travis supplied us the Whata Dude semen, which has produced a number of outstanding females for us. Tim Smith A I’d a set of heifers including A59 in fall 2014 to Smith Nu Approach, producing C424 Light My Fire, which is the only red blaze faced heifer from that effort. She has matured quickly. This is a gentle, fertile, easy keeping heifer with a great pedigree and a bright future. AI’d 5/20/16 to SSCH Smohalla X501. Pastuure exposed to WJF Suave B381 from 6-1-16 to 8-15-16.

On the dam’s side, MS Sugar Y114 is the granddaughter of Ankonian Red Pericles, who produced some really good bulls for La Muneca, plus the Y114 dam has a 349 calving interval. This heifer is destined for great adventure and outstanding performance. With a top 2% API and 1% TI, she will perform and show well in PTP shows. As my absolute favorite heifer from our 2016 calf crop and her outstanding personality, I am interested in having today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders show just how great she and the Simbrah breed are. If she turns out as great as her siblings, I am confident she is the real reason I decided to start raising Simbrah. Sells open.

Red Ladybug topped Tim’s selection of my available heifers. Tim had 17 young heifers to pick from on the ranch and he zeroed in on her immediately. Long in her spine, straight in her lines, wide-based and docile are all terms that describe her well. Her maternal granddam is a Sargeant influenced female, couple that with adding our Satisfies x Bella Bella bred bull, Smith Unrivaled on the top side and this was a no brainer mating for us. Wow, take a look at this pair. Here is a cow that is doing her job of taking care of a really fancy heifer calf. Even in the extremely hot and dry conditions down here this year, the cow is holding her condition and putting everything into her calf. She is the cowman’s kind. Using Indexes to Advance Your Program By Wade Shafer

Economic selection indexes were first introduced by Iowa State scientist, Lenoy Hazel, in 1943. Best described as “genetic accounting”, economic indexes blend an animal’s genetic levels along with commodity prices to predict the impact the animal will have on profit when used for breeding. Economic indexes have long been accepted by animal geneticists as the most effective means of making genetic progress for profit and, consequently, have been heavily utilized by the pig, poultry and dairy industries for years. Not surprisingly, the genetic progress made on those species through the use of indexes has been phenomenal--far eclipsing the progress made in beef cattle. By using ASA’s All Purpose and Terminal Indexes, you too can leverage the power of the economic selection index--there is no better tool in the beef industry for making selection decisions!

Charming is a stylish heifer calf, with a nice pattern. You have to appreciate her overall balance and femininity. When you add her gentle disposition, what an added bonus. Sugar Rush is an Evan daughter out of the RFI Sugar Rush cow. Evan is out of Nu Approach and the Bella Bella cow. This side of the pedigree makes her worth adding to your program, but there’s more. Selling two embryos with a guarantee of two pregnancies if implanted at Smith Genetics. Lady Charm was the 2014 Houston International Reserve Champion Female and she made lots of friends on the circuit because of her broodiness, stoutness, and structural correctness – several folks asked why I showed one with that much color and I said because she is that good and I believe it to this day – we even flushed her as a virgin heifer. I studied long and hard to select a Purebred Simmental Red Bull to mate with Charm to produce some new genetics outside of my herd bull battery – final selection was Kappes Pendleton B6. Pendleton stems from the Simmy breed leading great, Miss Werning KP 8543U, and sired by Remington Lock and Load – both sought after genetic lines for the most progressive of cattleman. The resulting three-quarters calves will be among the first Pendleton sired Simbrah calves in the breed and take note of the planned mating EPDs that post numbers in the top 1% API and top 2% TI. You asked for fresh outcross genetics and this package is just that. We are very excited about the future of this mating, particularly when we see that 33A has already proven herself with the production of Smith Fearless Charm (pictured). The production of calves from this mating will have tremendous marketability, fantastic EPDs, and champion show ring appeal!

Sweet Spots 3S/376 Cow Family

Selling two embryos with a guarantee of two pregnancies if implanted at Smith Genetics. Sweet Spots is a tremendous donor female sired by the legendary Meyer Ranch 734, the most sought after club calf sire in the industry! Smith Genetics selected this donor, because she offers lots of versatility with her outcross pedigree to our herd sires, plus she adds that extra touch of Simmental and clubby history in the pedigree. We have mated her several ways and she has been a DON’T MISS kinda producer. We selected the mating to Smith Detonator, who is DNA tested homozygous polled and a non-diluter, to incorporate a combination of the Bella Bella and Sweet Spots cow families to get that added performance and style we like to see in our calves. You asked for various genetic combinations that are a bit different - this genetic package is just that. We are very excited about the future of this mating, particularly when we see that third and fourth generation of the Sweet Spots cow family making their genetic impact on the breed. The resulting calves from this mating should be easy to sell with the built in marketability and breed recognition in their pedigrees.

Smith Sweet N Satisfies-Now owned by Southwestern Farms and she is a granddaughter of LMC Sweet Spot 3S/376. Sweet Spots is the dam of the Lot 129 embryos.

New Thoughts is a heifer that truly stands out when you drive into the pasture. She poses and gives you the profile of a champion – she’s good and she knows it! This black Simmental heifer will make her mark in the show ring, but her true value will be seen in the pasture knowing the success of the cow families built around her pedigree. Serious Simmental exhibitors and breeders need to evaluate this heifer and you will find she is truly a combination female that balances all attributes of a competitive show heifer. Along with all of the other heifers offered by Smith Genetics, New Thoughts qualifies for our junior program benefits and sponsored awards and premiums from the Synergy Showcase and Superbowl shows.
