SEMEN POLICY ON BULLS IN SALE
EPDS
RANCH LOCATION
The EPDs for API and TI (see Glossary) are the latest available.
GLOSSARY
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.
PARTNERSHIP LOTS
In the case of bull partnership lots, the new partner will have first choice to decide what 60 days they will be able to breed the bull. All decisions relating to the possession, showing, promotion, collecting of semen, and marketing will be mutually agreed upon prior to the transaction with both parties dividing all future expenses and net revenue. Female partnership lots will be owned 50/50 with all future production being coowned. The partner with possession will receive $300 per year for maintenance from the other partner. A partner that is selling their interest must give the other partner the right to match any bona fide guaranteed offer prior to selling their interest to a third party. Contract on these lots will be available on sale day.

BURCH FARMS
All is well at Burch Farms. We have had a good calf crop, made hay and still have some grass and praying for a good rain. This year I want to express how proud Martha and I are of our son John David. Besides his love for music and cattle, John David has always shown an interest in flying airplanes. My brother, who was a Lt Colonel in the Air Force and flew the B-52, was a big influence on John David. When John David was about 5, he told me one day that he wanted to fly airplanes and smoke cigarettes like his Uncle Mike. John David has always achieved what he set out to do. In his cattle showing days besides working hard with his animals, I was very proud of him winning the showmanship at the San Antonio Livestock Show. I thank Tim Smith for helping him and encouraging him to participate in public speaking at the TJSSA. In music in high school, he won the district and area FFA talent contest and sang at the State FFA Convention in Amarillo. John David also sang at the National FFA Convention in Kansas City. About 11 years ago, John David decided that he wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force. After hard work and a degree at UTSA and having completed their ROTC program, John David was commissioned as Second Lieutenant. He was accepted into pilot training and became a pilot in the Air Force. Over the past few years he has been promoted to Captain and has been and Aircraft Commander on the E-3 AWAC. We are proud of him for his service to our country and like many other men and women, the sacrifices that they make for us to continue to have freedom. John David flew two tours over Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom. John David has had some medical issues that have grounded him and he will be leaving the Air Force with a medical discharge. When I would look at a picture of the E-3, it’s always hard for me to think that the little kid who used to follow me around the cow lots was flying that plane. I am not sure what area of endeavor he will go into to make a living, but I know with his ability and determination he will be fine. Hope to see everyone at Synergy. SIDE NOTE: He did fly airplanes like his Uncle Mike, but thank goodness, he never smoked the cigarettes.
We would like to take the time to welcome everyone to Synergy. A big thanks goes out to Tim for all of his help and support. And thank you to all of the juniors, parents, breeders and everyone who comes out and makes this a huge success. It would not be possible without you. We hope you like the lots we have chosen for this year’s sale. We have been trying to improve the quality of our cowherd by utilizing superior genetics and proven cow families and hope you can see the improvements we’ve made. We have added to our bull battery with Fireball, Detonator, Advantage, Polled Patron and Possibilities. We believe we have brought a nice set of young heifers that will have success in the show ring and then make nice additions to your cowherd when their show careers are finished. We also brought in a good set of bred cows, which have some of the leading lines in the breed. We look forward to visiting with everyone and want to show you our cattle at Simbrah Synergy X.
HENSGENS BROTHERS CATTLE
Hensgens Brothers Cattle is owned by the Hensgens family and was started in 1985. Simgenetics have always been a focus from the beginning for our purebred and commercial operation. Being from south Louisiana, we have utilized the Simmental breed to create our own F1 Simbrah from our purebred Brahman herd to produce cattle that can perform in our hot climate. Diversification is a crucial factor to us, as we believe appealing to both the commercial and purebred markets is imperative for any breed’s survival. In our commercial herd, the Simbrah bulls we are using are producing a consistent set of calves that are turning order buyers’ heads, while the replacement heifers are easily marketed. In recent years, Hensgens Brothers has invested in many great Simbrah cattle to rejuvenate our registered herd. We enjoy showing some of our cattle, as we and our junior kids are seen at many of the Simbrah shows. The Hensgens family is very appreciative of Tim Smith for being such a great ambassador of the Simbrah breed and hosting such an event as Simbrah Synergy that does a tremendous job promoting not only the breed but youth as well. We look forward to seeing many of you at the sale and know you are always welcomed to call or visit us in Rayne, Louisiana.

BARTH’S PEBBLE CREEK FARM
MCCRARY FARMS
We are proud to mark our 18th year as Simbrah breeders and excited for Synergy X! Mark and I continue working to improve the quality of our herd, by utilizing the best sire power the Simbrah and Simmental breeds have to offer. Our current herd includes sire genetics of Smith Evan, Smith Nu Approach, NF Smith Sargeant, Smith McCrary Andy, Smith McCrary Matt, Smith Isgrig Charismatic, and McCrary Smith Inspired. We are long- time supporters of the junior program, and have been avid supporters and sponsors of many local FFA and 4-H programs. Our place is located in the northeast corner of Texas in the town of De Kalb, just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana borders near Texarkana. Come see our cattle and now four grandchildren. A special THANKS goes to Tim Smith who has worked so hard to make all of this possible!
Welcome to Synergy X, one of the premier sale and show events of our time. It is with great pride that we are again participating in Synergy X this year, and we are grateful for this opportunity. Although this is only our second year as consignors to Synergy, we are not new in the promotion of Simgenetics, or the Simmental and Simbrah breeds. Having begun our involvement in Simmental in 1975, we are now in our 42nd year with the breed. Our very first females came from well-known pioneers for American Simmental. Programs led by great ranchers such as Wm. Roden, John Hewes, Kintyre Farms and Colville Jackson, Tom Risinger, Rio Vista Farms, John Rockefeller, and John and Connis Ryan. When we decided to reconfigure the herd in 2002 to include Simbrah, we looked at the Carlos Guerra Family’s La Muneca Ranch and of course Tim Smith and Smith Genetics. They have all had a tremendous impact on helping us establish our program, goals and directions. My parents, William and Jean Barth, (Riverplace Farms, LTD), were the first in our family to purchase Simmental cattle after running a commercial Brangus operation for several years on land first settled by my ancestors in the early 1850’s in Dewitt County. When the opportunity to start the first Simmental herd in Dewitt County was realized, we jumped right in and never looked back. Now, along with my son, Bobby, we are the second and third generations of Simmental/Simbrah breeders and are excited to bring our program to both new and established breeders. We are encouraged as all six grandchildren have expressed interest in the cattle. Early morning and late evening rides through the pastures bring smiles and giggles into our lives. Watching their faces and hearing them shriek with enthusiasm bring a gentle peace to our hectic world and for that we are grateful. Our current herd sire, Smith Unrivaled, is sired by Smith Satisfies and has the prestigious Bella Bella as his dam. Our other sire, Smith BSF Watch Me, is sired by Smith Sargeant and his dam is Smith MDM Look At Me. Both of these sires are represented in our offerings as reference sires for the resulting calves. All of our current offerings for today’s sale are generously embedded with leading genetics including Nu Wave, Andy Black, Matt, Vintage, Ronen, Satisfies, Nu Approach, Charismatic, Sargeant, Bella Bella, Tulipe, Smith B Annie and many more. We hope you will enjoy our offerings as much as we have enjoyed building it.
TRIPLE J RANCH
On our farm, we strive to raise cattle that are gentle, hardy, structurally correct and able to perform off the land. We have gone to a forage based, intensive rotational grazing program. We want cattle that can go to the show and that will be able to thrive on pasture later as breeding adults. We have an extensive heifer development program aimed at the replacement female. We continue to improve the quality of our herd through the introduction of superior Simbrah genetics. Through sire power and the influence of proven cow families we continue to capitalize on some of the best Simbrah has to offer. A special thank you to Tim Smith, for your guidance, mentorship, and invitation to participate in Simbrah Synergy. We are pleased to present a few fruits of our labor at this year’s Synergy Sale. We stand behind our cattle, bid with confidence! Come and see us for Rao’s breakfast and coffee at the event!
REAVIS FARMS
We are a diversified family operation with Simbrahs, cotton, grain sorghum, onions and watermelons. We have been involved with Simbrahs since 1987 and are still excited about the breed. We have our best calves, yet, on the ground from sires including Charismatic, Nu Wave II, Sargeant, Smith Evan, RFI Thunderstruck, Lubbock and Smith Also N Red. We also have an interest in Satisfies. We continue to have success in the show ring as we raised RFI Real Deal, the 2014 ASA National and National at San Antonio Champion and the 2015 and 2016 National Champion, Smith RFI Sweet Deb. We also bred Jane Hunt’s 2017 National Champion Female, RFI Smith Faith. We are very proud of our offering for Synergy X and extend an invitation to you to the fall event of the breed.
DIAMOND RF FARMS
A few years ago, Diamond RF Farms had the chance to relocate to another area and at the same time we were fortunate to purchase more land. This has allowed us to expand our herd. We still are focusing on raising quality Simbrah and Simmental cattle and incorporating new genetics. We are expecting some calves out of a new bull, Smith DRFF Established (who we own with Smith Genetics) along with Stout N Black and Satisfies just to name a few. We are excited to see what the new calving season brings, as we are expecting new calves starting late August. Thank you to Tim Smith and Richard for their advice and guidance with our breeding program. We look forward to seeing everyone at Synergy X and feel free to call if you have any questions regarding our lots.

MONTE CHRISTO CATTLE CO.
HALLAK RANCH
2017 has been an exciting year for the Flowers family and Monte Christo Cattle Company, LLC. Beginning in February, our good longtime friend Kevin Kent was presented with a career opportunity in his field of expertise that involved extensive foreign travel. It was a tough choice for Kevin but in the end, he chose to temporarily side-line his love of the Simbrah cattle business and pursue his career in Military Security, thereby affording Monte Christo Cattle Company a chance to acquire what many in the industry regard as an “elite” cattle herd. This acquisition enables us to immediately spring board our genetic outcrossing that beforehand would have taken several years to accomplish. In conjunction with the same effort, Billy Hallak and I teamed up to purchase PRR Revolution 739B, which we believe will have a tremendous impact on the breed in the coming seasons. We have a good selection of Revolution calves developing now and available for sale. In March, Monte Christo made our first offering at The International Simmental & Simbrah Sale held at the Houston Livestock Show in Reliant Sale Arena, where we introduced a beautiful Smith McCrary Fireball daughter out of a MCR MS Ginger C600 bred dam and we were rewarded with the 2nd highest selling heifer lot. Our Fireball progeny are tremendous and we have used him extensively this spring. Later in the spring, the new administration successfully negotiated the reopening of American beef into the Chinese market export which quickly triggered a 20% plus improvement in fed cattle market, just a week before we sold this season’s feedlot pen. In addition, we posted a new performance high with 4+ lb./Hd/Day daily gain average on 60 steers. The new market dynamics indicate with a higher fed price and lower corn prices in feed cost, we effectively have a floor price on our heifers. This fact alone should inspire us all with renewed enthusiasm about our collective future in the cattle business. Monte Christo is making real progress in our breeding programs, with expanded quality genetic diversification success in the show sales, enhanced commercial feeding performance, and proven fertility. You can purchase with confidence from our bred heifer selection in this year’s Simbrah Synergy offering. It’s with great sadness that we recognize the recent passing of our longtime friend and mentor, Sally Buxkemper, who over the years provided tremendous support and encouragement as we began to establish ourselves in this business. Sally’s knowledge and expertise are of great benefit to many of us and her influence on the industry will live on. Her impact will continue on the Simbrah breed. As fate would have it, several of the heifers we offer this year are directly related to Sally’s program and we are excited to present them for your consideration. Color correct, proven fertility, performance tested, genetic diversity, are all solid reasons to buy with confidence from Monte Christo Cattle Company.
I first came to Texas in 1985 from Egypt. It was always my dream to own a ranch and cattle. I made good on that dream and from 1985-1998, ranched outside of Athens, Texas and established one of the premier Simbrah herds. HR Power House I is a product of Hallak Ranch, as well as the female HR Memphis Belle. I returned to Egypt for several years to handle family business. Then my wife, Malika, who is from Paris, France and I, returned to Athens in 2011 and began building our Simbrah program again. We were able to purchase an embryo that was a full sib to HR Power House I and a daughter of Memphis Belle. In addition, we are using Mr. Strack Y254 heavily in the herd and we recently teamed up with Monte Christo to purchase PRR Revolution 739B. We are offering semen on this sire and there are calves on the ground for you to evaluate. Our ranch is 6.5 miles south of Athens, off of Hwy 19 and we invite you to come visit.
SMITH GENETICS
It doesn’t seem like it has been 10 years since we set out to host an event for the breed and market great genetics from a number of top herds. It’s been a great experience for us and contributes to our excitement for the breed. We are proud to serve as hosts and look forward to this our 10th annual event. Smith Genetics strives to be a progressive breeder and we diligently use genomic data to complement visual appraisal of our herd. We also are participating in the Genetic Development Center testing program for bulls. This allows us to gain feed intake information and provide additional genomic data to the ASA. We continue to hold our annual Smith Genetics Cow Camp for junior and new breeders and have for 25 years. We are extremely proud to work with these junior exhibitors, their families and breeders. Our genetics continue to excel in the show rings of the junior and open shows. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah and Simmental cattle in both Texas and Kentucky, as well as a registered horse division in Tim’s home state of Kentucky. Tim’s family maintain the Kentucky division and they are expanding the number of cattle in their operation. We have developed a number of elite cow families, who have had a very positive impact on the breed, including Bella Bella, Priceless, Eleanor and several more. We are proud to be the breeders of the following sires, who are being utilized heavily in this breed: Smith Nu Wave II, Fireball, Detonator, Nu Approach, Satisfies, Ronen, Lubbock, Andy, Matt, Stout and William. We also will be debuting three young up and coming sires that we have bred, “Born To Dare”, “Secret To Success” and “Have No Fear” at the sale. We are thankful to each for your part and we are proud to host Synergy. Here’s a big welcome to you to the event and to Smith Genetics.

BELLA BELLA Cow Family
SMITH BELLA BELLA-DAM OF LOT 1 AND LOT 2
Here is a cow that made us ecstatic when she hit the ground as a baby and we have never looked back or ever been disappointed with any of her numerous matings that have generated over $400,000 in revenue for Smith Genetics during her 12 years of production. She has produced herd sires like Smith Evan, Smith Rhett, Smith Unrivaled, Smith Xtra Stretch, and Smith Smooth Operator to name a few. Some of her popular donor daughters include Smith Ciao Bella, Smith CRC Bella Vive, Smith Sweet Bella, Smith Bella Vino, Smith Bella Amelia, and Smith Isgrig Bella Notte.--- these donors have gone on to produce the next generation of top performers including Smith Detonator and Smith Mi Bella Cara and the list goes on and on. Study the multiple offerings selling from this elite cow family and take advantage of the investment opportunities and breeding pieces each presents!

Pendleton is a homozygous polled red bald-faced Simmental bull that is out of one of the most popular and prolific donors in the Simmental breed, Ms. Werning KP8543U, and sired by the famous Remington Lock-N-Load. Resulting bull calf will be a red, polled, non diluter ¾ X ¼ Simbrah with stacked EPDs ranking him in the top 1% for API and top 2% for TI in the entire Simbrah breed. From the moment this girl stood up to nurse for the first time we knew she was destined to be a stand out. She has all the pieces needed to stand in the purple – plus the pedigree, EPDs and structure to later make a top donor. She is the first daughter of “Smith Have No Fear” (Steel Force X Diva) to sell and this is his introduction to the public – we tested this young sire on a few females last year and WOW we are not disappointed and believe me he is breeding a lot more this year. This heifer qualifies for the Synergy Showcase and Superbowl plus all the added benefits of Smith Genetics Junior Program. We are confident you will be thrilled to take her home! Sells open.

Selling two embryos with a 50% guarantee if implanted by a certified technician. The guarantee becomes void after two years from sale date. The donor in this mating, Wentz Smith Superior Y18, is a tremendous broody female that I have always admired and held in such high regards that Smith Genetics purchased the remaining interest in her from the Tindle Family this year after watching how her daughter, 7N Superior Lady, developed at 7N Ranch into another high volume, beefy, easy keeping cow of donor caliber. This is now three proven generations of donors in this cow family: Juliet, Superior Mom and Superior Lady – IMPRESSIVE! Not a big surprise when you consider the opinion of several judges as they analyzed Wentz Smith Superior Y18 during her successful show career awarding her high-profile titles such as 2012 Houston International Champion, 2012 Fort Worth Champion, 2013 Reserve Champion at San Antonio, 2013 Simbrah Super Bowl Champion and Reserve Overall American at the 2012 Belt Buckle Bonanza and 2012 Fall Classic. Let’s not forget to mention that one of the hottest young Simbrah sires, Smith CRC Lubbock (2016 Houston International Champion), is the sire of this embryo mating and he is an own grandson of the top dollar producing donor, Smith Bella Bella. Combination of two top cow families in the breed, Juliet and Bella Bella, make up this planned mating! This set of embryos is a tremendous investment opportunity on cutting edge genetics that offer a balanced set of EPDs, championship genetics, and pedigree notoriety which all add to easy marketability of the offspring!

Here is a three-quarter show heifer prospect that will compete in the ARB division at the majors and still qualifies for the Synergy Showcase, Superbowl, and MAS percentage shows, in addition to all the premiums offered in showmanship at these events. Her long extended front end and natural rib shape are qualities needed in a competitive heifer. She is sired by our senior Simmental herd sire, WHF Devils Cut, and we are ecstatic about the quality look he has stamped on his calves – long extended front ends, angular make up and tremendous length of side with plenty of muscle and All A Glow fits the pattern. Upon completion of this heifer’s show career she will develop into a tremendous brood cow like her dam – remember breeding off of three-quarter females to purebred sires gives you that extra floating 1/16 of Simmental that is desired by many for that added touch of performance and cleanness of lines. All of the Smith Genetics junior benefits are available with All A Glow and some junior is going to have fun times campaigning her on the show road. Sells open.

Selling 40 units of semen in sets of 10 on this Purebred Simmental Bull Devils Cut continues to “Exceed Expectations” as a herd sire and my main reason for adding him to the program is that I have considered his dam “Sierra” as one of my all-time favorite Red Simmental females because of her maternal power. It is always said that a true donor is one that out produces herself and I believe Sierra has done just that with her daughter and maternal sister to Devils Cut, WHF PRS HPF Alley 247Y, who has been a leading donor at Hudson Pines Farms following her show career with a highlight of being National Champion Female at the National Western. Behind every great sire is a great cow and that sure holds true for Devils Cut! We are proud of his performance in producing all around good cattle and we are anxiously awaiting his daughters to go into production. You will appreciate seeing him in the flesh at sale time! SMITH ISGRIG CHARISMATIC DAM: RFI TINY DANCER MISS ON DECK
Dancin Star will be a pre-sale favorite! This is a beautiful and very striking female due to her length of side and her clean and extended front end. She is flat hipped and as structurally correct as they come. She comes from a great pedigree, as she is sired by Smith McCrary Fireball, who is out of Satisfies and Hi Price who herself is out of Dream On and Priceless. Maternally, she is out of a top producing Charismatic daughter and Miss On Deck, who is a maternal granddaughter out of the famed Little P. Look at the pedigrees that you are stacking in this female. This heifer truly has a loaded pedigree, and her resulting calf from Devil’s Cut could be a barn burner. Tim Smith would tell you the same thing, that the Devil’s Cut calves are some of the most impressive calves on the ranch. Buy with confidence. This is another female with a loaded pedigree, as on the paternal side you have Detonator, Satisfies, International Champion Ciao Bella, and many time champion Bella Bella. Her name says it all, Real Special. We are confident she will make it to the front pasture very quickly. This little red girl is just the right size with a pedigree that is stacked with some of the breeds best. On the top side, you’ll find the likes of Real Deal, Evan, Nu Approach, Dream On, Sargeant, Tulipe, and Bella Bella. WOW, and we’re only half way there. Then on the bottom side there is Satisfies, Diva, Simply Great, Madam X, JW Black, Power House and Oprah. This was a hard one to part with, as she is loaded with potential. This is another female who has something exciting coming right after the sale. Two straws of semen on any 7N owned herd sire is available for future use on this female. Her dam, LMC Tora goes back to Bravo, and is still producing keepers for us at the ranch. The real prize here is still in the package. We are talking about the Satisfies calf she is carrying. Prissy is a dark red, deep bodied, level hipped female, who is also clean fronted. She stayed in good condition through the current drought nursing a heifer calf we kept and she bred back on time. We really liked this cow when we bought her as a heifer from the Burch program several years ago. It is hard to get rid of good females who produce like she does, but here she is. She is out of the Charismatic bull, who is a Nu Wave II son. We really like the maternal traits he passes on to his females. On the dam’s side she goes back to Red Bullet, a Power House X She Moves mating. We all know what She Moves brings to the table. This is a lot that should get your attention. There is a little history behind this mating, but we’ll save that for later. Her sire Specialist mixes Nu Approach and Sargeant bloodlines and we think the dam is one of the greats in the making, utilizing the “magic mating” of Nu Wave II and Sargeant. Now that you’ve studied this female, it’s time for the history lesson. Her full sib, RFI Lady Charm, brought home the 2014 Houston international Reserve Championship banner and although she is not showing all the color her sister had, we think the potential is there. See, history ain’t so bad. She qualifies for the Synergy Showcase and the Superbowl. Two straws of semen on any 7N owned herd sire is available for future use on this female. Sells open.

Using Indexes to Advance Your Program By Wade Shafer
Economic selection indexes were first introduced by Iowa State scientist, Lenoy Hazel, in 1943. Best described as “genetic accounting”, economic indexes blend an animal’s genetic levels along with commodity prices to predict the impact the animal will have on pro t when used for breeding. Economic indexes have long been accepted by animal geneticists as the most effective means of making genetic progress for pro t and, consequently, have been heavily utilized by the pig, poultry and dairy industries for years. Not surprisingly, the genetic progress made on those species through the use of indexes has been phenomenal--far eclipsing the progress made in beef cattle. By using ASA’s All Purpose and Terminal Indexes, you too can leverage the power of the economic selection index - there is no better tool in the beef industry for making selection decisions!

We are selling buyers choice of these two females. They are out of Tink , who is a Nu Approach daughter out of Tinker Bell, the 2009 San Antonio Champion Female. This Nu Wave II daughter didn’t take long to find her way into our donor pen. She has a nice long stride, big middle, and just a really good stout made cow. Not many holes here. We believe these heifers will make you proud, whether you decide to show these heifers, or move them straight into your breeding program, the quality is there. I was unable to make the pick, so I’ll let you do it. Good luck, don’t think you can go wrong either way. Both heifers qualify for the Synergy Showcase and the Superbowl. Another female we hate to part with, but we promised some of our very best, and here she is for the taking. Super long, deep, wide ribbed, easy fleshing and flat out ‘dog gentle’.
