GLOSSARY
RANCH LOCATION
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

Sale Participants HENSGENS BROTHERS CATTLE
The Hensgens Family couldn’t be happier than to be a part of Simbrah Synergy! SimGenetics have always been a focus from the beginning for our purebred and commercial operation. We utilize our purebred Brahman herd to not only produce Brahmans, but Simbrah cattle as well. Over the last few years, our Simbrah herd has changed gears and have been making their marks in the ring and pasture. Diversification is a crucial factor to us, as we believe appealing to both the commercial and purebred markets. One of the highlights the last few years is the tremendous set of calves that our Simbrah bulls have produced on our commercial herd. To us, it only makes it easier to develop a bull market when a buyer can see the outcome in their future investment.
NIESCHWIETZ 7N RANCH
Well another year has come and gone, and here we are again. Hanna has ended our drought down here in the valley, at least for the time being. We got more rain in 24 hours than the previous four years combined. Makes you want to laugh and cry all at the same time, but such is life in the cattle business. We would like to take the time to welcome everyone to SYNERGY XIII. A big thanks goes out to Tim for all of his help and support. We would also like to thank all of the juniors, parents, 4-H and FFA advisors, fellow breeders, and everyone else who comes out and makes this event a huge success. Without all of you this event wouldn’t be possible or be the success that it is. We are constantly working on improving our cowherd and will continue to do so by utilizing superior genetics and proven cow families.
We have had one of our best calf crops this year and are excited for our offering in Synergy this year. The pedigree of our offerings have some unique crosses that we are proud to have created. You can bid with confidence in these heifers as they will be competitive and be in your front pasture for years to come. The ever changing field of agriculture has us always thinking progressively to utilize as many of the tools as possible to be as predictable as we can. The old saying, “you can only manage what you can measure” has been hitting home for us lately. With that being said, our emphasis on collecting as much data through accurate weights, DNA, and carcass will be in full force.
You will again see a few new names in our bull battery, Influential will head that list after being named Reserve National Champion Simbrah bull last year. Intimidator and Frosty are out on cows. Patron, Ambition, Powerman and Amigo have also been breeding cows. We are really proud of our Potential, Savage and Accelerator calves, and will be utilizing them more than last year. You may also see some old names show up, as we’ve been playing in the semen tank again.
Thanks to all of our buyers last year and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Synergy this year! And remember, you are all welcomed to come visit us in Cajun Country!
We are highlighting several genetic lines again this year. There are a couple of Powerman heifers bred to Potential. The Potential calves we have on the ground are really nice, so be sure check out his females being offered. The Savage Calves are also really nice, but what will make them special is there EPDs, most have 10+ traits in the top 20%.
MONTE CHRISTO CATTLE CO.
Please evaluate our cattle and let us know what you think. We hope you like our offering and look forward to visiting with you to answer any questions you may have. Enjoy Synergy XIII and stay safe.
We’re about to enter our 30th year raising Simbrah cattle. Many cattle “fads” have come and gone over the years in regard to color, size and companies coming and going but one thing remains the same, quality counts most and Simbrah bring more quality pounds and more money per pound. Our ranch is in great shape (except for a barn that Hurricane Hannah blew down). We’ve had good rain during the spring, producing abundant quality forage for the largest calf crop we’ve ever produced. Although Hannah knocked some of our citrus off our trees, the rain that came along with it was a beautiful thing.
BURCH CATTLE
It’s hard to believe another year has gone by. We have purchased some land in Oklahoma and are running some of our registered Simbrah cattle north of the Red River. Our Texas operation remains unchanged, thanks to the help of my dad, Rickey Burch. This year we are offering eight lots in the sale, including embryos from our foundation donor, 5S/326. We continue to be impressed with our sire, Smith Born to Dare and his get and service is a feature of our live lots.
Our genetic investment over the past five years is manifested in high quality productive females that constantly improve our herd and our offering to the industry. Our gratitude and thanks go out to Tim, Martha and all the staff who put on this cattle sale under the current conditions in America and the world at large. It takes courage and perseverance to maintain a tradition like this event and Margie and I appreciate their effort and are honored to support this endeavor.
Thank you to Tim Smith for allowing us to participate in the premiere event of the Simbrah breed.

MCCRARY FARMS
REAVIS FARMS
This year marks our 24th year as Simbrah and Simmental breeders and we could not be more excited for the quality offering in Synergy XII. Mark and I continue working to improve the quality of our herd by strategically utilizing the optimal sire power both breeds have to offer. Take a holistic view of our herd pedigrees and you will find the influence of many breed greats, including Satisfies, Inspired, New Approach, Sargeant, Charismatic and Smith Matt N Black. We are long-time proponents of the Simbrah youth development programs and have been avid supporters and sponsors of many FFA and 4-H events. Our farm is located in the northeast corner of Texas just south of DeKalb. We are just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana borders near Texarkana-you are welcome to come by and see our cattle at any time. We consider ourselves fortunate to be members of the Synergy group and a special THANK YOU goes out to Tim Smith and the Smith Genetics Team, who continuously works hard to make Synergy the event of the year!!
We are proud to be entering our 33rd year as Simbrah breeders. We believe the future of Simbrah has unlimited potential still after all these years. We have incorporated new genetics this past year with the introduction of new bulls into our breeding program. And we use top Simmental sires to infuse more new genetics to improve our EPDs and carcass traits. Our other bulls continue to perform at the top of the Rio Grande Valley Beef Improvement Gain Test. As we continue to grow our herd, we strive to produce cattle that will thrive in a variety of environments – from tough range conditions to the show ring. As a diversified family farm operation with grain, corn, cotton, and sunflowers, and our emphasis is on producing sweet 1015 onions. We hope you will come by and look at our cattle. We think they could be good additions to your cattle program. Special thanks to Martha Garrett for all she does for us and the Simbrah breed. Last, but not least, we would also like to thank Tim Smith for all his hard work and dedication to the Simbrah breed these many years. And we look forward to seeing everyone at Synergy XIII.
DIAMOND RF FARMS
We are once again honored to be a part of Synergy and would like to thank Tim Smith for the invitation and helping to coordinate such an amazing Sim-Genetics event. During these unique conditions we all face, we thought it might be best to comb through our herd and focus more on the cow families that are consistently working for us and offer something from each of those. This year you will find lineage from some of the top donor cows across the breed that we’ve been lucky enough to acquire genetics on like, Smith Golden Glory, NF Madam X and SVF Expecting A Dream. This year’s offering will be more than just show heifers, it covers the spectrum of breeding pieces and should fit everyone from the seasoned cowman, down to the first-time showman. These cattle are gentle, sound structured, good in their udder and packed with the genetic potential to out produce themselves. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding our lots on Friday/Saturday, September 25/26, 2020. We look forward to an enjoyable weekend visiting with each one of you during Synergy, and together we can celebrate SimGenetics and what the breeds have done for each of us.
STRACK FARMS
Our family has been in the Simbrah business since 1983, but the Stracks have always been involved in agriculture since their family arrived from Germany in 1845. For a number of years, we also fed consumers at our family restaurant in Spring, Texas. The ranch was started by my dad, Don and his brother, Ernie and myself (Keith). Today, my dad and I continue to operate the registered program as Ernie recently passed away. We are located in the Marquez/Normangee area of central, Texas and it is home to about 125 head of Simbrah cows. We made our first purchases in 1983. Over the years, we have seen a number of our cattle excel in the show ring for junior customers and we have been actively involved in the Texas Simmental/Simbrah Association and the area associations within the state. We have been blessed to market our cattle over the years to domestic customers and have sold into Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil.
TEMPERANCE LIVESTOCK COMPANY
Two years ago, we purchased the Hallak herd and have added those genetics to our program. This is our second year to be involved in Synergy and we feel like we have selected some of our absolute best for our inaugural event--we have some pairs, breds and opens for your consideration. We look forward to seeing you Sept. 26-27th and enjoying good Simbrah cattle.
Our excitement to be part of Simbrah Synergy continues! We would like to start by thanking Tim Smith, as well as the other consignors for the opportunity to once again place lots in the sale.
FRALISE FARM AND RANCH, LLC/TRIPLE J RANCH
Our ranch is in Henderson, Texas, where we continue to produce quality SimGenetic cattle, as we have since 2010. Our cow families include matrons like Charming Moves, Hidden Jewel, The Next Bella and Priceless Gem, with a pedigree stacked bull battery consisting of Red Jewel, Added Benefits, and Just Because. These champions define the core of our herd.
On our farm, we strive to raise cattle that are gentle, hardy, structurally correct and able to perform off the land. We have gone to a forage based, intensive rotational grazing program. We want cattle that can go to the show and that will be able to thrive on pasture later as breeding adults. We have an extensive heifer development program aimed at the replacement female. We continue to improve the quality of our herd through the introduction of superior Simbrah genetics. Through sire power and the influence of proven cow families we continue to capitalize on some of the best Simbrah has to offer. A special thank you to Tim Smith, for your guidance, mentorship, and invitation to participate in Synergy. We are pleased to present a few fruits of our labor at this year’s Synergy Sale. We stand behind our cattle, bid with confidence!
We have four lots in the sale this year. Two of these are yearlings, one bred and one open. Either can also be show prospects for another year. The other two lots are attractive show heifer prospects with exciting futures. You can read more about each of these calves in our sale lot notes. Our calves all come with the benefits of our budding junior program, which includes support at every major stock show, guidance for feeding and showmanship and answers to any questions from our junior showmen and their parents. We welcome scramble certificates, too! Ask us about the services we can provide. Give us a call to visit or check us out on Facebook at @Temperance Livestock Company.

SMITH GENETICS
Thirteen years and it seems like yesterday since we initiated Synergy. The event has continued to be successful because of the elite genetics we offer and the predictability of our cow families. It’s been a great experience for us and contributes to our excitement for the breed. We are proud to serve as hosts and look forward to this annual event. Smith Genetics strives to be a progressive breeder and we diligently use genomic data to complement visual appraisal of our herd. We also are participating in the Genetic Development Center testing program for bulls. This allows us to gain feed intake information and provide additional genomic data to the ASA. We have continued to hold our annual Smith Genetics Cow Camp for junior and new breeders, although this year Covid kept us from meeting in person, we were still available to help with information. We are extremely proud to work with these junior exhibitors, their families and breeders. Our genetics continue to excel in the show rings of the junior and open shows. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah and Simmental cattle in both Texas and Kentucky, as well as a registered horse division in Tim’s home state of Kentucky. Tim’s family maintain the Kentucky division and they are expanding the number of cattle in their operation. We are increasing our Simmental numbers at the Giddings location and that is reflected in our offering. Our offering includes members of the Bella Bella, Priceless, Topanga/Debutante, Diva, Annie, She Moves, Golden Glory, 9A, Mia, 770P and Gracie. We have a number of young and exciting sires that we are featuring including, Practical 42D, No Better Than This, Born To Dare, Just Because, Carson, Smith RFI Go-To 708E and Emmitt to name a few. They join are powerful group of proven sires including Satisfies, Fireball, Real Deal, Detonator, Lubbock and Inspired to mention a few. We are thankful to each for your part and we are proud to host Synergy. This year will be somewhat different, as we will be very mindful of Covid’s dangers and will be implementing some social distancing measures and added safety precautions. We’ve got a big barn, so come on, spread out and bid on the lots—we think we’ve got some really good ones.
Using Indexes to Advance Your Program By Wade Shafer Economic selection indexes were first introduced by Iowa State scientist, Lenoy Hazel, in 1943. Best described as “genetic accounting”, economic indexes blend an animal’s genetic levels along with commodity prices to predict the impact the animal will have on pro t when used for breeding. Economic indexes have long been accepted by animal geneticists as the most effective means of making genetic progress for profit and, consequently, have been heavily utilized by the pig, poultry and dairy industries for years. Not surprisingly, the genetic progress made on those species through the use of indexes has been phenomenal--far eclipsing the progress made in beef cattle. By using ASA’s All Purpose and Terminal Indexes, you too can leverage the power of the economic selection index - there is no better tool in the beef industry for making selection decisions!

Another testament to the success we have had with our Synergy purchases, Yes I’m A Bella’s dam, a daughter of the famous Smith Bella Bella matriarch, is an outstanding female we bought right here at Synergy. She has been hard at work, here at McCrary Farms, returning significant dividends and continuing to raise the bar for overall herd quality. This purebred Simbrah female carries what has been called the “magic mating” of Nu Wave and Sargeant genetics. Her balanced set of EPDs combined with her overall mass and dimension will be sure to return the same rewards to her new owners as this female’s mother has for us. Yes, I’m A Bella. Selling three embryos with a minimum of one pregnancy (no maximum) guarantee if implanted by a certified technician. The guarantee becomes void after two years from sale date. You have the choice of one sire or a combination of two sires to make up the three embryo package. This will most likely be the last time that a 5S/326 embryo is sold at public auction. The 5S/326 female is our foundation donor and has gone on to produce donor quality females for Smith Genetics. In last year’s sale a similar mating was offered through the 9A cow owned by Smith Genetics selling for $7,000. This year you have the opportunity to go straight to the factory and buy genetics from a cow that just doesn’t miss. Royal Rumble, an Executive Order son with Dream On represented on the dam side, is a purebred Simmental sire, who is deep sided and loaded with muscle. This mating would result in top 10% for API and top 5% for TI. The Backdraft bull is another purebred Simmental that is also sired by Executive Order. The Backdraft mating will result in offspring with a Top 1% for API and Top 1% for TI. You can’t go wrong with either on of these sires. Bid with confidence!

A favorite of many who have watched this heifer develop over the last year, and possibly one to contend with at the 2021 majors this spring. A direct daughter of Smith Satisfies, combined with the productivity and longevity of the Golden Glory cow family that has put many scholarships into young kids’ hands. Euphorias Fool is just that, foolishly flawless in her build, robust in her structure, yet so feminine and up headed when viewed on the profile. I only regret one thing about this heifer and that is not getting her shown this spring as a baby, but make no mistake she is on the right track to be in the front pasture this spring. Sells exposed Smith Believe, adding value to something already valuable only makes it more valuable. Pasture exposed to Smith Believe 668F ASA #3435194 from 7/13/20 to 9/15/20.
An outstanding young Simmental cow that is just now showing us what she can really do in production, with an excellent three-quarter heifer calf at her side. Darcy’s pedigree reads with some outstanding maternal strength being a direct daughter of Twang, who carries on the legacy of the Shawnee 770 cow family that has produced some outstanding donors across the country. Here is a moderate framed, easy keeping female that is stunning from the side with that beautiful front end and ideal udder structure. Her calf is sired by Smith Believe, a young sire who is a direct son of the great Smith Bella Bella, making her an excellent ¾ X ¼ show heifer.
