GLOSSARY
RANCH LOCATION
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first–calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then just as with EPDs zero in on the unit difference between the bulls. The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. X 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.

Sale Participants HENSGENS BROTHERS CATTLE
The Hensgens Family couldn’t be happier than to be a part of Simbrah Synergy! SimGenetics have always been a focus from the beginning for our purebred and commercial operation. We utilize our purebred Brahman herd to not only produce Brahmans, but Simbrah cattle as well. Over the last few years, our Simbrah herd has changed gears and have been making their marks in the ring and pasture. Diversification is a crucial factor to us, as we believe appealing to both the commercial and purebred markets. One of the highlights the last few years is the tremendous set of calves that our Simbrah bulls have produced on our commercial herd. To us, it only makes it easier to develop a bull market when a buyer can see the outcome in their future investment.
NIESCHWIETZ 7N RANCH
Well another year has come and gone, and here we are again. We have had abundant rainfall this year and it’s nice to have the grass, as we are usually fighting drought. We would like to take the time to welcome everyone to SYNERGY XIV. A big thanks goes out to Tim for all of his help and support. We would also like to thank all of the juniors, parents, 4-H and FFA advisors, fellow breeders, and everyone else who comes out and makes this event a huge success. Without all of you this event wouldn’t be possible or be the success that it is. We are constantly working on improving our cowherd and will continue to do so by utilizing superior genetics and proven cow families.
We have had one of our best calf crops this year and are excited for our offering in Synergy this year. The pedigree of our offerings have some unique crosses that we are proud to have created. You can bid with confidence in these heifers as they will be competitive and be in your front pasture for years to come. The ever changing field of agriculture has us always thinking progressively to utilize as many of the tools as possible to be as predictable as we can. The old saying, “you can only manage what you can measure” has been hitting home for us lately. With that being said, our emphasis on collecting as much data through accurate weights, DNA, and carcass will be in full force.
We have put together an offering that provides genetic diversity and lots of promise. Please evaluate our cattle and let us know what you think. We hope you like our offering and look forward to visiting with you to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to visiting with you. Enjoy Synergy XIV and stay safe.
Thanks to all of our buyers last year and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Synergy this year! And remember, you are all welcomed to come visit us in Cajun Country!
BURCH CATTLE
It has been an interesting year in Oklahoma with ice storms in October, snow in December, and -18 degrees and snow in February. All this with a group of Simbrah cattle that were in Texas just a few months prior. I can attest to the hardiness of the breed from the Texas Gulf Coast to Central Oklahoma. Burch Cattle started from me showing Simbrah cattle and blossomed into a registered operation started by my father, Rickey Burch. I now have the opportunity to share the breed and lessons learned from my showing career with my children. Even though I do not have any cattle to offer in the sale this year, two of my three children will be participating in the Synergy show. We are excited about the future of the breed and are focusing our efforts on not only cattle for the show ring but also functional and productive cattle for the pasture. We look forward to seeing each of you at the sale this year and plan on bringing a solid offering next year.
MONTE CHRISTO CATTLE CO.
If nothing else, we have grass! Following the devastating freeze on Valentine’s Day, our South Texas neighborhood has benefitted from spectacular rainfall, amounting to almost 40 inches by late July which is twice our annual rainfall with still five months to go. With great pasture grass, our weaning weights and mature cow conception rates have been fantastic. With our increasing herd size and the resulting need for additional bull power, we have encountered some difficulty in locating genetic outcross, color correct and performance tested bulls and have discovered other breeds with the same issue. As a result, we’ve added new outcross genetics and can now add a good selection of purebred high performance Simbrah bulls to our regular program of open and bred heifers. Check out our Monte Christo Cattle Company Facebook page for photos of Summer 2021. We have just finished weaning and will have finished pregnancy checking by mid-August. New postings of bulls and bred heifers coming soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Synergy XIV in September!

MCCRARY FARMS
REAVIS FARMS
This year marks our 25th year as Simbrah and Simmental breeders and we could not be more excited for the quality offering in Synergy XIV. Mark and I continue working to improve the quality of our herd by strategically utilizing the optimal sire power both breeds have to offer. Take a holistic view of our herd pedigrees and you will find the influence of many breed greats. We are long-time proponents of the Simbrah youth development programs and have been avid supporters and sponsors of many FFA and 4-H events. Our farm is located in the northeast corner of Texas just south of DeKalb. We are just a few miles from the Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana borders near Texarkana-you are welcome to come by and see our cattle at any time. We consider ourselves fortunate to be members of the Synergy group and a special THANK YOU goes out to Tim Smith and the Smith Genetics Team, who continuously works hard to make Synergy the event of the year!
We are proud to be entering our 34th year as Simbrah breeders. We believe the future of Simbrah has unlimited potential still after all these years. We have incorporated new genetics this past year with the introduction of new bulls in our program. And we use top Simmental sires to infuse more new genetics to improve our EPDs and carcass traits. Our other bulls continue to perform at the top of the Rio Grande Valley Beef Improvement Gain Test and we have sold more bulls this year than ever before. As we continue to grow our herd, we strive to produce cattle that will thrive in a variety of environments from tough range conditions to the show ring. We are a diversified family farm operation with grain, corn, cotton and sunflowers, watermelons and our emphasis remains on producing sweet 1015 onions. We hope you come by and look at our cattle. We think they could good additions to your program. Special thanks to Martha Garrett for all she does for us and the Simbrah breed. Last but not least, we would also like to thank Tim Smith for all his hard work and dedication to the Simbrah breed for so many years. We look forward to seeing everyone at Synergy XIV.
TEMPERANCE LIVESTOCK COMPANY
We are excited to participate in Simbrah Synergy once again! We have a fresh look. but we’re the same great people with the same great cattle! We are located in Henderson, Texas, where we produce quality SimGenetic cattle, as we have since 2010. Our cow families include matrons like Charming Moves, Hidden Jewel, The Next Bella, and Priceless Gem, and we’ve added Smith Adventurer 814F to our pedigree stacked bull battery.
STRACK FARMS
Our family has been in the Simbrah business since 1983, but the Stracks have always been involved in agriculture since their family arrived from Germany in 1845. For a number of years, we also fed consumers at our family restaurant in Spring, Texas. The ranch was started by my dad, Don and his brother, Ernie and myself (Keith). Today, my dad and I continue to operate the registered program as Ernie recently passed away.
We have four lots in the sale this year. Two of these are attractive show heifer prospects with exciting futures, both descended from Hidden Jewel through Red Jewel. The third lot is a yearling heifer, pasture exposed to Smith Adventurer. And don’t miss our fourth offering, Lot 6 in the sale with Smith Genetics, a top end heifer from The Next Bella donor with both fabulous show potential and exciting breeding potential as she matures. You can read more about each of these calves in the sale lot notes.
We are located in the Marquez/Normangee area of central, Texas and it is home to about 125 head of Simbrah cows. We made our first purchases in 1983. Over the years, we have seen a number of our cattle excel in the show ring for junior customers and we have been actively involved in the Texas Simmental/Simbrah Association and the area associations within the state. We have been blessed to market our cattle over the years to domestic customers and have sold into Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil.
Our show calf prospects come with the benefits of our budding junior program - support at every major stock show, guidance for feeding and showmanship, and answers to any questions from our junior showmen and their parents. We welcome scramble certificates, too! Ask us about the services we can provide. Give us a call to visit or check us out on Facebook at @TMP Livestock Company.
This is our third year to be involved in Synergy and we feel like we have selected some of our absolute best for this event. We look forward to seeing you Sept. 25-26th and enjoying good Simbrah cattle.
FRALISE FARM AND RANCH, LLC/TRIPLE J RANCH
On our farm, we strive to raise cattle that are gentle, hardy, structurally correct and able to perform off the land. We have gone to a forage based, intensive rotational grazing program. We want cattle that can go to the show and that will be able to thrive on pasture later as breeding adults. We have an extensive heifer development program aimed at the replacement female. We continue to improve the quality of our herd through the introduction of superior Simbrah genetics. Through sire power and the influence of proven cow families we continue to capitalize on some of the best Simbrah has to offer. A special thank you to Tim Smith, for your guidance, mentorship, and invitation to participate in Synergy. We are pleased to present a few fruits of our labor at this year’s Synergy Sale. We stand behind our cattle, bid with confidence!

SMITH GENETICS
Fourteen years and it seems like yesterday since we initiated Synergy. The event has continued to be successful because of the elite genetics we offer and the predictability of our cow families. It’s been a great experience for us and contributes to our excitement for the breed. We are proud to serve as hosts and look forward to this annual event. Smith Genetics strives to be a progressive breeder and we diligently use genomic data to complement visual appraisal of our herd. We also are participating in the Genetic Development Center testing program for bulls. This allows us to gain feed intake information and provide additional genomic data to the ASA. We have continued to hold our annual Smith Genetics Cow Camp for junior and new breeders. We are extremely proud to work with these junior exhibitors, their families and breeders. Our genetics continue to excel in the show rings of the junior and open shows. Smith Genetics includes Simbrah and Simmental cattle in both Texas and Kentucky, as well as a registered horse division in Tim’s home state of Kentucky. Tim’s family maintain the Kentucky division and they are expanding the number of cattle in their operation. We are increasing our Simmental numbers at the Giddings location and that is reflected in our offering. Our offering includes members of the Bella Bella, Priceless, Topanga/Debutante, Diva, Juliet, She Moves, Golden Glory, Eleanor, Irreplaceable/Classic and 770P. We have a number of young and exciting sires that we are featuring including, Just Because, Carson, Practical 42D, Smith RFI Go-To 708E, Steppin’ Up Your Game, No Better Than This, Have No Fear, Like Never Before and Emmitt to name a few. They join a powerful group of proven sires including Satisfies, Fireball, Real Deal, Detonator, Lubbock and Inspired to mention a few. We invite you to follow us on Facebook and check out our updated and redesigned website. We are thankful to each for your part and we are proud to host Synergy. We think we’ve got some really good ones.
Using Indexes to Advance Your Program By Wade Shafer Economic selection indexes were first introduced by Iowa State scientist, Lenoy Hazel, in 1943. Best described as “genetic accounting”, economic indexes blend an animal’s genetic levels along with commodity prices to predict the impact the animal will have on pro t when used for breeding. Economic indexes have long been accepted by animal geneticists as the most effective means of making genetic progress for profit and, consequently, have been heavily utilized by the pig, poultry and dairy industries for years. Not surprisingly, the genetic progress made on those species through the use of indexes has been phenomenal--far eclipsing the progress made in beef cattle. By using ASA’s All Purpose and Terminal Indexes, you too can leverage the power of the economic selection index there is no better tool in the beef industry for making selection decisions!

We are sad to say that Priceless passed away in 2020, but her influence lives on and fortunately her daughters meet the same demands of a great cow family! Priceless generated over $475,000 in genetic revenue during her lifetime and her daughter, Detonation is following the footsteps of the breed matriarch. This cow family transmits the same style and beauty each generation. Priceless’ barn name “Goose” continues to resonate with those that saw her showing, because she was a beautiful fronted female. Priceless has numerous daughters and granddaughters in production including Smith Priceless Passion, Smith Hi Price and Priceless Wish owned with McCrary Farms, Smith Priceless Gem owned with Temperance Cattle Company, Smith Johnson Top Price raised and owned with Johnson Cattle, Smith Priceless Vanity owned with 7N Ranch, Smith McCrary Rhythm owned by La Familia Ranch, Smith TMP Oh Priceless owned with Glueck Family and the list goes on. This family has produced herd sires including Fireball, Luke Benjamin, Thunderstruck, Always In Style, and Highly Recommended. The mark of a true cow family is the production of herd sires and breed matrons that have gained the respect of fellow breeders and commercial cattlemen alike. This cow family checks all the boxes.

Genetics with lots of breeding value and market demand represent this cow family. This family was generated by Reavis Farms and Smith Genetics in our joint owned program and we now have six generations in production. Multiple herd sires and over a dozen donors produced have been produced from this genetic line. Lots of attention was brought to this family by the two-time National Champion, Smith RFI Sweet Deb. Cattle in this line all have that show ring appeal and then go on to make phenomenal cows. Last year we said this was a proven family with lots of young females and sires making things happen. Watch for a big influx of these genetic lines in the future--well here is an offering representing that big influence we discussed, as we have held these genetics very tight. This guy has a moderate frame, good bone without course joints, muscle, is loose hided and stems from the same proven cow family that produced the proven Smith Isgrig Charismatic bull that added tremendous performance numbers to our breed. I think this prospect has a show career ahead of him and as a breeding bull I think he is looking like an answer to some of our tight hided cattle without getting all the navel problems. He is heterozygous black which allows me to use him on more red cows when I don’t know if they carry the dilution gene. I believe in him enough that if you invest and he doesn’t continue to impress then I will refund your money. Let’s smile in the backdrop pictures and enjoy the upcoming show season in the spring. Her sire, Possibilities, passed away from illness at a young age and very few of his daughters are available, so take advantage. This two-year-old heifer will calve by sale day to the immortal Smith Satisfies. She has a beautiful udder structure with ideal teat size. SMITH NU WAVE II DAM: SMITH MDM PHENOMENAL SMITH ANNIE LOU
When we began to rebuild our Simbrah herd, one of the first heifers we invested in was Smith LMC Especial 765A. Especial was owned by both Smith Genetics and La Muñeca Cattle Company, which made our decision to purchase her a no brainer. She is a very stout made female that is as sound as you can make one. You have to appreciate the bone to muscle ratio she possesses with the attractive black baldie package that is one to be desired. Coming from one of the top Simbrah herds in the country, Especial is sired by the infamous Smith Satisfies bull that has done it all for Smith Genetics. The bottom side of her pedigree combines the Smith Annie Lou Cow Family and Nu Wave II. Her first calf was a red baldie herd bull, Hensbros Red Chief, sired by Hagan Arapaho bull in which one of our top upcoming donor females is sired by. Especial 765A has been quite the donor cow not only in producing quality of calves but a terrific embryo producer. Multiple times she has produced 15-25 reverse sort female embryos via an IVF aspiration.
