Welcome, 2014 marks the beginning of a new era for JSF and our first bull sale at the ranch. It is only fitting given the evolution of our program that our first bull sale here happens February 4, 2014. We have recently completed a state-of-the-art 999 hd livestock waste management facility at the JSF Cow Camp. Completion of this allows us the opportunity to add value to our customers operations through acquisition of their calves. Whether it be steers to background or heifers to breed and market as Shorthorn influenced replacements or bred females, we are interested and committed to enhancing the profitability of you, the customer. We believe this venue further adds to the uniqueness of our program, both within the Shorthorn breed and industry. Speaking of unique. Durhams in the Dakotas 2014 is full of very unique bulls. New sire groups are represented that have far exceeded our expectations. Bulls like Righteous, Answer, Hot Commodity, and Gauge have left us with some outstanding sons that will be available on February 4. No doubt this group will continue to cement our legacy as THE place to find your next outcross herd sire in the Shorthorn breed. For our commercial customers, many high quality options fill the following pages. Add heterosis and enhance maternal function without sacrificing performance and do-ability. This uniform set of bulls will be presented in their working clothes sale day with a full set of current weights and ultrasound data to assist in your decision making. Unlike past years, bulls will sell via auction in our heated sale facility as opposed to the bid-off function we have done in the past. I am not one to spend a lot of time resting on laurels or in review of what our program has accomplished. The bulls have, and will continue to prove themselves across the US, Canada, and throughout the world. I have said before one is either green and growing or ripe and dying. We strive to be the prior. I invite you to come grow your operation with us on February 4th. Best regards,

Really stout made, soggy, Sir 18.47 20.77 24.41 Patrick son here. Sir Patrick's dam and granddam were two of the best cows to ever walk at JSF.

....Answer.... Have you ever asked yourself these questions: How do I get adequate performance without sacrificing calving ease? Where do I find the next outcross sire to move my herd and the breed forward? How do I maintain fleshing ability and look without sacrificing production?

We have Answers...17 of them as a matter of fact. And they are bred to be problem solvers! My history with this bull dates back to the summer of 2009 when I stopped at Lovings on the way back from Amarillo, Texas where Shorthorn University was held that year. We came upon a bull Scott had been telling me about for some time since we entered the pastures at their North ranch. "Solid red, 3/4 blood, moderate BW, leaving the other calves behind. We're gonna keep him" were the quotes I recall. We found him towards the end of our tour that day and he was exactly what Scott had described. We proceeded through a great set of cows that day that are worth anyone's drive. Little did I know we would find that bull again one day. In the spring of 2012 we were delivering bulls on our south run and stopped back at Lovings to say hello and view the progeny of one of the best bulls to ever leave here, JSF/RB Prestige 8U. Always impressive he and his sons are there, we came upon a solid red bull in an adjacent pen that was truly striking. It didn't take me long to decide that bull was coming home with me that day. It took a lot longer for Marty and Scott to decide that was going to work for them! A few hours later we were walking the bull on the trailer and I told Scott he was the best outcross bull since Proud Jazz and the perfect fit for his daughters. We brought the bull home and after around 30 days of spending time in the road pen Answer was off to breed cows. I never would have anticipated that would be the last time he would be here. Near the end of breeding season that year I came upon him all alone and hardly able to get up. As he struggled to stand my worst fears were realized when one back leg wobbled as he stood. After a weeklong stint at the vet it was determined he should be put down. Hence, the bull never got pictured. You can ask anyone that saw him and they will tell you he was flat awesome. A big, deep, powerful, solid red meat machine with the true look of a herd sire that was sound as a cat. His legacy will live on through this set of sons and limited use AI as only 150 units exist on the bull. Durhams in the Dakotas

1/2. Black Rhino is just that. A stout beast. The youngest bull in the offering, his dam is a can't miss cow that has consistently landed great ShorthornPlus cattle in various sales for us.

Another solid red 3/4 bull from a first calf Top Hand Dam. This combo works really well, both for females and bulls. Some of our best steers this past year were 3/4 brothers to these bulls.
