The only thing missing was the fireworks after the home run. And this was a grand slam. Each year, the Star Search sale offers an elite group of show heifer prospects as well as outstanding brood cow prospects. This year, the Shorthorn and Angus show heifer prospects were of the highest quality and were readily accepted. There was a full house of buyers in attendance as well as over 100 registered bidders on the internet. This made for an amazing sale. Congratulations to all involved with Cates Farms and Sunrise Sunset Farms for the presentation of a simply great event.

$90,000 - Lot 9 - Open Heifer - CF CSF Crystals Swan 015 EV X ET. A roan, polled January 13, 2020 daughter of CSF Evolution HC and out of SULL Crystal’s Swan ET. This top youngster was on the top of many show heifer lists among the buyers at the sale. She will definitely be in front of the backdrop in her future. Purchased by Tim Ferre and Mitch Fitzgerald of Sullivan, Indiana. $52,000 - Lot 27 - Open Heifer - CF Max Rosa 025 EV X ET. A red, polled January 24, 2020 daughter of CSF Evolution HC and out of CYT DSC Max Rosa 4126. The Max Rosa heifers have been in the winners circle for many years and the good ones keep coming. This one will surely have many banners in her show career. Purchased by Ben Nikkel of McPherson, Kansas. $49,000 - Lot 3B - Open Heifer - CF S/F Margie 093 SOL ET. A R&W, polled April 17, 2020 daughter of CF Solution X ET and out of CF HHF Margie 2106 HC X. This is a really good one from the famed Margie line at Cates Farms. She has a great structural design to go with the show look. Purchased by Keegan McGrew of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. $47,000 - Lot 2B - Open Heifer - CF CSF Mona Lisa Smile 064 HC X ET. A red, polled March 13, 2020 daughter of Free K-Kim Hot Commodity and out of CF V8 Mona Lisa Smile 526. This one was the pick of many at the sale. She has all the pieces to be a great one. Purchased by Cornerstone Farms of Winchester, Indiana. $47,000 - Lot 21 - Open Heifer - CF Mirage 050 EL X ET. A roan, polled February 24, 2020 daughter of SULL GNCC Eldorado ET and out of SULL Mirage Forever ET. This is beautiful red necked roan youngster that has that show ring look. From the great Mirage line. Purchased by McKala Grauel of Edison, Ohio $37,500 - Lot 20 - Open Heifer - CF Rosebud 090 UH X. A R&W, polled April 13, 2020 daughter of CF S/F Upper Hand X ET and out of SULL Rosebud 7144E ET. This fancy youngster has a very interesting pedigree including Aviator and Red Reward. These are proven lines and this one will be a good one down the road. Purchased by Rick Lawrence of Wilkinson, Indiana. $37,000 - Lot 14A - Shorthorn Plus Open Heifer - CF NB Demi 024 Primo X ET. A black, polled January 22, 2020 daughter of Colburn Primo 5153 and out of CF CSF Demi 650 SOL ET. When this outstanding heifer was led to her pen the evening before the sale, all heads turned to watch. She is that kind of special. Out of a National Champion Female, this one is a can’t miss. Purchased by Samantha VanVorhis of Bowling Green, Ohio.
