Graduate Thesis : Festum Fatorum Through encountering and identifying the constant search for spatial reconciliation. Festum Fatorum aims to re-create both historic and contemporary architecture that can be thought of by multiplicity, alternativitiy, and its ability to solicit the individual’s imagination. Architecture has the ability to open up, reveal and propose an alternative. With the subtly to suggest and power to alter, architecture fundamentally dwells within the individual’s narrative desire to be constantly re-figured. Architecture’s ability to overwhelm through mystique, and inflict a sense of doubt, results in what could only be described as curiosity, and through this curiosity brings a desire for more, an individualized architectural experience that connects and opens up to us.
An impenetrable surface – where there is neither a beginning, nor end. Infinite configurations of space and reflections, yet uninhabitable.
He becomes a part of the parts, broken from himself, suspended above the clarity. He presides over the surface, a master puppeteer of sorts.
He lives in hiding, in search of light. His daily routine moves him counter clockwise with the teasing sun. The mocking sun watches as he confronts, opposes, and interrogates his internal self.
He speaks freely at the altar. He is a voyeur of the confrontation. He manipulates words that reflect the sacred, a sense of hope in a single moment.
The unwary balance in finding truth in symbols, redistribute a sense of doubt. The weightless transcendence of faith acknowledges the unknown. The uncertainty suddenly finds complacency. In the distance we seek forgiveness through judgment and confession. Descending the steps we find ourselves suspended over the valor of the void and under the reflection of the mirrored surface. The manipulative inhabitants’ gesture violates our inward thinking, and provokes the profane. Exposed and vulnerable, the voyeur questions the inhabitants’ faith; he opens skepticism of the sacred, projecting it upon himself. The cold and relentless display of spiritual tension articulates a constant search for spatial reconciliation. The voyeur and manipulative inhabitant choreograph the feast, while their architecture tames the sacred by locating our secular fears. The search for light reveals the darkness it crafts. The fool both objectifies and fulfills desire. At this intersection we are no longer the observers but observed.
the city & its watchful sorrow A Symbolic Place for the Inhabitants of New York City needs to embody the passion, and honor of those who lost their lives in this horrific tragedy. This memorial aims to translate hope from the sacred elements of water, air, fire, and earth. The pyramidal shape allows for air and water to mirror each other while circulation transcends to the heavens. The memorial soars 120 feet into the air to maximize the energy of the sun, the fire, to allow growth, a sense of rebirth to the green walls embedded into the concrete walls. The exterior landscape is an extension from the existing grid of the 9/11 Memorial, those lines extend across the street to the Hudson river, connecting land and sea. While the concrete from the 9/11 Memorial changes to wood planks as it moves towards to tower of the elements they are each engraved with a lost ones name. Every year one plank is removed and let out to sea.

columbia point : masterplan The booming development and the ongoing search for the next best neighborhood uncovered South Boston’s Columbia Point. This plan calls for a much more elaborate and grandiose vision. This plan focused on creating great moments with even stronger connections through community, education and retail development. Similar to the Boston Big Dig, the goal was to bury Morriesy Boulevard and provide a public greenway connecting multiple scales. Overall Development : Retail : 1,330,500 SF Residential : 8,000,000 SF | 8,700 Units Commercial : 7,000,000 SF Education : 3,800,000 SF Student Housing : 1,200,000 SF | 4,180 Beds Parking Spaces : 16,540 Spaces

center for cartography The Center for Cartography focused on the integration of site and landscape., the intent was to identify the ideal site conditions and location for overall building placement. Cartography, the study and creating of maps, lend itself to creating a new method of mapping for blurring landscape and architecture. While translating the existing contours of the site into tangible lines I was able to generate an overall form that reacted to the natural untouched land. Over the buildings life-cycle the goal was to blurr the facade into the tree lines by translating the facade into a reconstructed tree bark pattern while using copper and the natural process of oxidation.

programmatic boundaries.
The above meltings where a means to document and map the site conditions over an hour long period. Each sheet was placed at different elevations and angles in relation to the sun. The hope was to identify the most concentrated ink with the best sun and sight location for the buildings placement. Each building leg reacts to three different site conditions.

the light of motion The center for advanced motor-vehicle development and research revolved around translating levels of speed into building facade screen devices. The site was anchored between the U-Bahn, S-Bahn and highways in Berlin, Germany. The goal was to provide the user with an experience of light that directly correlated with different methods of transportation, I was able to capture speed in a frozen moment of time with photography. While using a wider aperture each image produced different light balances that I was able to break down into geometric shapes, the fast the image, the higher the white count, and the higher the white count, the density of openings in the facade panel increased, as a result the shadow and sun rays transformed the space.

community design Creating a microcosm of building typologies for a growing a sustainable community aims to identify the local needs and future developments of the area. This community focus on family growth, and retirement with a variety of age groups. This design focused on the desire to interact, from senior living to young families. The facade allowed for external undulating balconies providing exterior space for almost all units and interior balconies focused on connecting series of floors.

landmark center development The entire site is being re planned to make the historic Sears building and the surrounding block more permeable. The strategies are dramatic and include the demolition of all above grade parking, creation of new public space on Brookline Avenue and the relocation of the office lobbies to the street level. Redevelopment of the Project Site will bring new ground and second floor retail uses, including a major supermarket.
