SANCTUARY FONT CREATION AND PRESENTATION BY STEPHENI COLLINS
BACKGROUND < Sanctuary is inspired by my church Word of Life Christian Center. < I have been attending this church since I was born (21 years).
< Word of Life is a non-demoninational Christian church. < The church is incredibly diverse, with people of every color and race.
BACKGROUND < Word of Life is one of the most important places in my life. < So much of my personal identity has been shaped by the things Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve learned and the people I have met there.
< I fondly call it my second home - seeing as though I spend just as much time at my church as I do at my actual home.
FONT CONCEPT < My emotional connection to the church is incredibly strong. < I feel feelings of security, warmth, ease, fun, simplicity, and gratitude when I think about / go to my church.
< I also consider ideas like diversity and inclusivity when I think about this place.
FONT CONCEPT < I chose to do a handwritten font to express a feeling of ease and simplicity. < The choice to do thin strokes, paired with a tall x-height supported the “fun” aspect of my church.
< I also decided to add an arrow at the end of most upstrokes.
< This is actually an exploration of how I normally write some of my characters. < Having upward facing arrows supports the theme of being “lifted up” or encouraged from church. < It’s also a unique and diverse way to help the typeface stand out.
