Project Description The Arc 462 semester project was to design a regional library in New Harmony, Indiana. This library had to serve the surrounding areas and schools. New Harmony, IN is a small town that has a few other iconic architectural buildings, such as Richard Meier’s Atheneum. The population of New Harmony is around 760 residents and is located just off of the Wabash River. The New Harmony Regional Library must serve a very large region of people. The program for the library had to account for lots of stack space for mostly books. Computer and technology space was another major portion of the program that needed to be accounted for. In the end, the library program needed to account for about 92,000 square feet. This design an accessible green roof and photovaltic glazing in all of the banding that encompasses the building. This design was based around concept of liquid crystal displays and how they work. As shown in the image below, when the LCD screen is off the crystals twist and rotate on themselves to create a twisting tower. I replicated this in my building by rotating each floor around the central core.
