The Class Overview Introduction to Design class pushes students to open up their minds to be innovative through two dimensional design. The class inspires individuals to think outside the box and use the world’s environment as a stimulating platform. Through my time in this class, I have learned not just new design skills, but also how to express myself in imaginative ways. The more time I spent doing my work, the more exhilarating and motivated I became because I was able to experiment with new concepts and techniques. These are the activities that I can carry with me throughout the rest of my life.

Dot Line When doing the Dot-Line project, I realized that constructing wellcrafted objects is difficult, but if you take your time and do the right steps to setting it up, it will be easier on yourself. When starting this project, I wanted to quickly jump into it and get it over with, but then I thought I would be better off making thumbnails that would spark ideas. Making samples helped me gather my thoughts and focus, so I could figure out what I wanted for my final product. Abstraction showed me the meaning behind what I wanted to display, without using words. With Dot-Line, I chose a word and utilized lines and circles to design a meaning for the word.

Expressive Text Hand lettering is much different than digital lettering. Hand lettering is more creative and you are able control the way the lettering is written. When doing this project, I learned how to free hand the lettering and be more creative in the way I write in order to show different types of lettering. I was also able to adjust the size of my letters, such as making them larger. The type of lettering was not my strength, but when doing different types of art work, it does not always need to be perfect. If I were to do this somewhere, I think it would be awesome to do this in my bedroom at home because it is quiet and bright, so I can focus on creativity.

Object Iteration From my object iteration, I learned that there are many different ways that German Shepherds can be portrayed. There are ones that are built way different than my German Shepherd back at home. Big or small, no matter what, not one German Shepherd I have seen has been created the same. I think the German Shepherd collage piece of art was the hardest for me to complete. This was because it was hard to find collage pictures that would display the meaning and importance of a German Shepherd. The most enjoyable lesson for me was to be the master artist. Seeing famous artists’ works and imitating them was very interesting and it made the final project result more intriguing. From a Photoshop perspective, I learned many new skills that I will need for the rest of my life. I learned how to use layers, curves and many other crucial tools throughout this project. The curves were very important for this project because the final work required that white and black pictures are used. If I were to continue this for a year, I think I would spend more time learning how to display my pictures on InDesign.

Designer Presention

Alberto Giacomentti What drew me to Alberto Giacomentti, my designer, was his human body sculptures. Alberto loved to use human figures, and the way that he creates his art work was truly different and unique. Presenting is not one of my strengths, and so it is very challenging for me to do in front of an audience. When I started my presentation in front of my classmates, I was very nervous and struggled.

Children’s Book The most surprising aspect of the Children’s book was that I thought the partners would be helping us through the whole process, but the only part they particpated in was sending the text. From there, the art students had to come up with the illustrations. The most challenging part of this project was the amount of time I spent to get all of the illustrations done on time for the critique. In the end, I know the many hours and hard work will pay off. If I were to start this project over again, I would better organize my ideas, so I had a complete gameplan before I started my design. In other words, I would make thumbnails to help focus my thoughts, so my ideas were clearly aligned throughout the
