3 Amigos - A set of three wines for $35 Angels Landing Pinot Noir 2009

Regular Price: $15.99

This Sonoma coast Pinot Noir is aromatic with an edge of cherry-cola followed by flavors of ripe, strawberry jam with a light plum note that all leads to spicy earth and cocoa beans with a subtle hint of boysenberry in the back end. It has a silky texture with the tannins that guide it to a velvety finish. This wine will make a terrific pairing with rich fish dishes, chunks of beef tenderloin marinated overnight in a soy/ginger based sauce and chicken breasts stuffed with fresh crab meat mixed with garlic and mushrooms. “Rich plum, blueberry, blackberry, dried rose petal, chocolate, and charcoal on the nose with molasses. The palate has a bit of tannins with big jammy fruit, a touch of molasses, and lingers a bit on the back palate.” -Zach Padilla (TLS Product Specialist/Sommelier)

6th Sense Syrah 2009

Regular Price: $17.99

“Some of you may be familiar already with the style of the wines from Michael & David Vineyards from their wines like “7 Deadly Sins” and “Earthquake.” These are not wines of subtlety or restraint, rather going for full bore fruitiness and intensity of flavor, if not also bit higher on the alcohol levels. The “6th Sense” is another in the long line of insanely rich and every bit as insanely under priced wines from this value driven producer. I found that this Syrah first and foremost actually tasted like Syrah, sure it has a ton of blackberry jam and sweet Mexican chocolate that guard its outer walls, but inside those walls lie the mother-lode of bacon fat, cracked pepper and dried herbs. A perfect wine for those more adventuresome palates!” -Bryan Brick, K&L

Sensual Malbec 2009

Regular Price: $10.99

The grapes for this single-vineyard wine come from vineyards situated in Rama Caida, San Rafael, Mendoza, around 760 meters above sea level. One of the coolest areas in San Rafael, the soil in Rama Caida is of sandy calcareous composition and alluvial origins. Hand-picked and twice sorted by hand, the grapes are crushed, fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. Very gentle, periodic pumping over is conducted, with seven days total maceration and natural stabilization. There is minimal French oak aging in an effort to keep fruit fresh, lively and prominent, with a further one month’s aging in the bottle. The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plum and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines.

Allegrini Villa Giona Veronese 2003

Regular Price: $94.49

This month we offer a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah from the high-density vineyards planted around Villa Giona, a beautiful Renaissance estate in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico. Aged in new, medium-toast barriques for 18 months, Villa Giona is the wine of choice for the discerning wine lover seeking textbook international style mingled with a unique sense of place. Dense and deep ruby red in color, Villa Giona offers a rich and intense bouquet, and luscious aromas of blackberry, raisins, vanilla, spices, and leather. The structure of Cabernet Sauvignon melts with the smoothness of Merlot, while the persistent, silky finish is enriched by the spicy tones of Syrah. “The 2003 Villa Giona (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Syrah) is packed with dark fruit, black pepper, herbs, earthiness, leather and coffee beans. It offers excellent length....Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010.” -88 pts Wine Advocate “A full-bodied, silky red, with meaty black fruit, damson and a herb and chocolate tinge on the nose and palate. Nicely balanced, dense and flavorful, with hints of citrus fruits coming through on the long finish.” -89 pts Wine Spectator

Frederich Magnien Chablis Forets 2005 - 375ml

Regular Price: $26.49

To the untrained eye, looking up from the ruddy, rocky soils of “Amoureuses” in ChambolleMusigny seems the same as any other. But Frederich Magnien (man-yen) explains the difference of better drainage, higher altitude, more sun and suddenly it’s crystal-clear why Magnien Burgundy is so terroir-driven. How can a lover of Burgundy not be awed by the sheer power of terroir? Unique, complex and always profound, Magnien Burgundy, even in lesser years, perfectly captures the character of each Cute d’Or plot he chooses. And when you combine a profoundly talented winemaker with a vintage of this quality, be prepared for some serious fireworks. The 2005 vintage is a landmark year, a remarkable vintage that brings to mind 1985 and 1990, yet raises the volume considerably higher. After tasting many cask samples through the year, the magic of this vintage became crystal-clear. 2005 Burgundy shows deep, penetrating colors in tandem with intense, layered flavors. An ideal balance of fruit and acidity; as well as plenty of phenolic material for long-term aging. From village wines to the most grand of grand crus, our collection of 2005 Magnien red Burgundy is readily some of the finest wines of the vintage. “The best in 15 years.” Magnien told us, adding that the quality of his pre-harvest fruit was the finest he had ever seen, just “perfect.”

NxNW Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Regular Price: $27.99

NxNW: North by Northwest represents wines made from inland grape-growing appellations of the Columbia River Basin of Oregon and Washington. The NxNW winemakers have developed strong, creative relationships with growers and fellow winemakers in the Columbia River Appellation and throughout the northwest viticultural region - leading to this richly textured wine. NxNW is a unique lens for capturing the essence of terroir, the character of the people, and the quality of the wines from this great new emerging winegrowing region. The wine’s appearance is deep garnet, and has aromas of blackberry, blue fruits, anise, and oak spice. On the palate, it shows black cherry, stewed plum, and a hint of coffee bean. It is soft, with nice weight, generous tannins, and a long finish.”
