HECATE PROGRAM 2016

Each time I enter a theatre a child-like awe engulfs me, just as it did on my first visit to the ballet. The art form is magical, offering transcendence through powerful storytelling and bold athleticism. In 2017, The Australian Ballet takes you on a wondrous journey, featuring some of the most fabulous stories ever told through dance. It’s a season defined by the adventures of three extraordinary women.

HECATE / 01

synopsis

HECATE is the story of the Greek goddess of the night transported into the 21st century. Starring the talented Amber Scott as Hecate, she portrays the deep internal pain and turmoil of a goddess trapped by her past. Haunted by the betrayal of Dylan (played by Andrew Killan), Hecate moves through life unhinged by her experience, albeit hiding it well amongst the people in her life. The one person that she is able to let her guard down around is her closest friend and confidante, Persephone, played by Amy Harris. The story follows Hecate’s current day-to-day life, with flashbacks to her past with Dylan. Be prepared for a haunting tale with a twist narrated by the grace of our dancers.

Amber was promoted to principal artist in 2011 after performing the Second Movement from Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto. Career Highlights include working with Wayne McGregor on Dyad 1929 and Chroma and dancing with Robert Tewsley during the 2008 Manon season.
