My call to missions during a Sterling chapel

service wasn’t anything big or flashy, just God telling me what He wanted me to do with my life. Since then He has been opening my eyes to all the opportunities that await me. I could continue to develop my Spanish and serve overseas, or I could serve Him here in the U.S., working in L.A. where I could combine my major in communication and my musical gifts. But I want to be ready to go wherever He sends me. That’s one of the reasons I knew I wanted to attend Sterling. It’s the right place for me to be challenged and prepared before I head out into the world.

Amanda Everett, Longmont, Colorado

When I walked by the statue of Jesus washing Peter’s feet on our campus,

I knew Sterling was where I could find students and teachers committed to the principles of servant leadership. To me servant leadership is never being too great to serve or aid someone else. As an athletic training major, I experience that first-hand. Taping ankles may not be a major thing, but going the extra mile to ask how someone is doing after practice shows them I care. Being at a college that emphasizes servant leadership as part of daily life teaches me how to pay attention to the people I’m leading, to see what they’re going through and get their opinions. When you do that, you truly become a servant leader.

Natalie Gordon, Denver, Colorado

MAJORS

By the time I was a senior I had not only become close to my professor, but their families as well. In many ways they are like fellow classmates an integral part of the Sterling experience that will always stay with me. - Representative Josh Svaty ‘02, 108th District (KS)

It keeps me enthusiastic to try something new. Being involved with

so many activities at Sterling lets me interact with a lot of different people. It lets me experience a piece of their world as they experience mine. I participate in theatre, help with Service Link (a volunteer service organization), sing in several musical groups, work at improving my pole vaulting skills, and serve on our Campus Activities Board (CAB). What else do I keep active with? Ultimate Frisbee and thinking up new campus traditions like mud football and campus golf, even putting up a tree swing. The tree swing is just another fun experience to bring us all together. And that’s what college is all about.

perseverance - character - hope (Romans 5:4)

College can be a time when you focues on yourself - your needs, wants and dreams. But it is so much more rewarding to invest in the lives of other people. Even if you only get a taste of Sterling’s ministry opportunities, you will develop a hunger for ministry that will continue many years after you graduate, and can impact families for generations. - Matthew Jaeger ‘00, Student Venture Field Director, San Diego, California

Sterling College has helped me grow as a man, friend and follower of Christ. There are very few colleges in the country that have the ability to transform individuals the way Sterling does. I love spending time with guys on my team. The profs truly care for the students and want to see them succeed. Norman Montgomery, Union Bridge, Maryland

Growing up with the guys in my high school meant I knew everything about

them, their stories. Being a new guy at Sterling, I wasn’t sure where everyone stood spiritually, but my Resident Assistant sought me out to tell me that anytime I wanted to talk or pray, his door was open. That meant a lot. I knew God was pointing me towards Sterling because of its intentionally Christian atmosphere and because I had a chance to make a difference. I’ve gotten to know people from different backgrounds with different life experiences than mine, and we help each other out, hold each other accountable. Now I’ve decided to be an RA and am planning Bible Studies for my wing. It’s my opportunity to help someone else, to do for them what others have done for me. Kyle Chamberlin, Denver, Colorado
