Nestled on our farm in the heart of North Cornwall, we tread softly on the earth; respecting, renewing and recycling. A certified B Corporation and honoured with a Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2021, we place people and planet at the heart of everything we do.

Born from our love of artisan crafts, we have been perfecting the art and science of making candles for over 29 years. Our candles are made sustainably using a blend of traditional and contemporary methods to ensure each candle is of superior quality in style, fragrance and burn.

Each individual encounter with our candles and fragrances is a unique sensory experience. Tactile, elegant candles to adorn the home. Each aroma can create deep connections, memories and emotions to transform a person or place and therefore make a wonderful heart-warming gift.

We look after our local community and are proud members of Plastic Free Mawgan Porth. We are honoured to be able to give back to charities and projects who need it most, supporting both local charities and those further afield too. Some of the incredible community charity projects we support include Cornwall Wildlife Trust, The Trussell Trust Food Banks and arts mental health charity Hospital Rooms.

ROOTED IN TRADITION Nestled on our working farm in North Cornwall, St. Eval was born from humble beginnings, crafting candles by hand on the family farm. We use a blend of traditional and contemporary methods with our spirits rooted in all things natural. Our products and fragrances draw inspiration from the beautiful coast and countryside surrounding us here in Cornwall. From the rolling Atlantic waves, to the bright gorse bushes along the coastal paths and meadows of wildflowers bursting with colour. Candle making is a mindful combination of art and science, which we have been perfecting for over 29 years, with a focus on superior quality and meticulous attention to detail. Our candles are lovingly crafted and carefully blended with fragrances to celebrate the traditional art of the craft.

Being based on a working farm we are acutely aware of how important the environment is, and how vital it is that we protect and nurture it. Our company values are focused on keeping traditions alive and treading softly on the Earth; respecting and renewing. As a business, we continuously strive to improve, innovate and nurture, to enable us to grow and flourish. Our products are made with an emphasis on sustainability and we love that we can produce our own sustainable energy via wind, solar and biomass to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the environment. Our farm is a wonderful haven for wildlife and our constant source of inspiration for new products and fragrances. In recognition of our sustainable ethos, in 2022 we became a certified B Corporation; legally embedding our commitment to place purpose beyond profit in all company endeavours. We are so proud to become a B Corp, which proudly sits alongside our prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development which we were honoured with in 2021. As a company, we are determined to set the standard for actions to preserve and nurture the natural world around us. 42

BEHIND THE SCENES AT ST. EVAL We apply a combination of traditional and contemporary methods in crafting all our products. Each product is made with a personal touch to ensure superior quality in style, fragrance and burn. From our poured tin candles and pots, through to our pillar candles, diffusers and tealights, each product is carefully crafted to uphold these high standards. We are proud to protect and celebrate the artisan craft of drawing with our two magnificent drawing machines. Our first drawing machine was made by German engineers in the 1940s and is a triumph in efficient, traditional manufacturing. We were so in awe of the technique and quality, we sourced a local engineer to create a copy of this model so that we could have two running simultaneously. Both of our drawing machines are rolling daily to create our long dinner candles and small pillar candles up to 2.5” in diameter. We have a range of scented or unscented and, in our dinner candles, a palette of twelve vintage and modern colours to perfectly complement the home. The process of drawing involves fixing a number of cotton wick strings around the large cylinder drums of the drawing machine in figure of eight shapes. The wicks then loosely glide through a pool of hot molten wax in between the drums and are coated layer upon layer until the required candle diameter is reached. The candles are then taken off the drawing machine onto long tables to be carefully cut and milled by hand before being packed into their boxes.

A SENSE OF WELLBEING Our unique blend of wax and fragrance is crafted to ensure a consistent aroma, superior burn quality and beautiful appearance, perfect to lift the spirits and enrich our candle experience. Smell is a strong sense, powerfully acting on the limbic part of our brain which controls emotions, memories and stimulation. When we surround ourselves with beautiful scents from nature, we can evoke wonderful feelings, helping to improve both wellbeing and happiness. We work hard to create collections and fragrances that inspire special moments and spark happy memories – that is the essence of a St. Eval candle. SUPERIOR QUALITY & TESTING We embrace the mindful practice which comes with producing the finest quality candles, blending traditional and contemporary methods to maintain the high standards for which we are renowned. Each one of our candles goes through a rigorous testing process in our candle laboratory on-site, and we’re proud members of the British Candlemakers Federation; working together to raise the bar on candle manufacturing standards.

CANDLE WISDOM Our safety labels help to ensure that customers are well informed. However, in addition to standard safety guidelines, please see our advice below:

Avoid burning candles in draughty areas to encourage an even burn
