NGAIO - SPACE FOR THE FAMILY
The suburb of Ngaio Ngaio is located just over 3kms from the city centre and it generally only takes about 10 minutes to get there. There is a bus stops within meters of the house and the train is a short walk away. It is one of the sunniest suburbs in Wellington and is a very popular suburb for families. Ngaio and Khandallah are neighbouring suburbs and behind them is Mt Kaukau – which rewards those who walk the Mt KauKau track with spectacular views over the city and harbour. Other handy walks include the Piwakawaka Track, Trelissick Park, Ngaio Gorge and the Skyline Walkway - all an easy walk from the house. Nagio houses are generally 1960’s weatherboard houses and there is also a small area of railway cottages called the Tarikaka Settlement which were built in the 1920s. There is also new development in Ngaio. Ngaio and Khandallah were settled at the same time – and both have street names from the Indian subcontinent. Prior to 1908 Ngaio was a logging community and became part of the Wellington City Council in 1919. Ngaio takes its name from the native tree called the Ngaio. Ngaio’s village is very popular and well serviced by Villa Café, a good library, pharmacy, petrol station and boutique clothes shop. There are also a lot of reserves, parks including Nairnville Park sportsfield and Recreation Centre, a tennis club, churches and schools. Ngaio enjoys a real sense of community. The people are friendly and welcoming - making Ngaio a great place to live in and bring up the family.
