NCNGA Unit Rep News Volume 1, Issue 1

September 2013

News from the Insurance Department: We have had a busy summer with the insurance program, but mostly from our separated/retired members. Summer is when all our annual premium payments are due for our Associate members. Did you know that when you (or your fellow Guard members) separate or retire from the NC Guard, you could continue your NC National Guard Association insurance? With very little to no increase in premium? Keep that in mind when your unit members are leaving the Guard – tell them to give us a call about keeping their coverage.

What is new with the NCNGA? The North Carolina National Guard Association is experiencing some changes - some recently and some in the near future. What are the changes?

On the active side of the house, we have been busy with some mobilization exercises, and other events that allow us to set up a table and be a part of the personnel checklist for Soldiers and Airmen. If your unit is having an event where the unit members will process through various stations to check their records, please include the NCNGA on your list. We don’t take up much room – just a table and chairs!

Toll free number is no longer in service – we had to change our internet service and when we did, it changed our phone plan. The toll free number was costing us an additional $130 per month. The Executive Council decided that additional expenses was not in the best interest of our members. To reach us – call 919-851-3390 (or email us).

Staff changes – Kathy Ford’s last day with the NCNGA is 13 September. For now, Rhonda Arndt will be handling ticket sales and I will be handling annual & life dues, as well as retirement certificates. The other change that will come about next April is that Adene Tyler, Executive Director for the NCNGA will be retiring. Our Headquarters & Employees Committee and Executive Council will have a busy year with all the internal changes, but we know they will take the lead and do what is right for the Association and its members.

The 2014 NCNG & NCNGA Combined Event will be held 27-29 March 2014 at Twin City Quarters, in Winston-Salem, NC. We are making some changes to the program, moving some of the functions to the convention center for more space, and adding more fun to your conference experience. Information on registration and rooms will be available in November or early December. Mark your calendar now!

The Communications Committee has selected a company to redesign our website (Semper Fi Web Design). We are also developing a Unit Rep page for the website.

If you need a unit printout, to verify which of your Soldiers/Airmen are NCNGA members - contact us (info below). Now is a good time to take our printout and compare it to your unit alpha list, send us a list of those individuals no longer in your unit and a list of unit members not on your printout. We will move everyone and return an updated printout to you.
