foursquare a low cost housing-option This tiny house is designed using modular units and common building materials commonly used around the world. The application is geared towards but not limited to disaster relief temporary housing or temporary housing to be used in developing countries. Using recyclable materials and keeping the design simple makes these shelters easy to move from place to place and gives inhabitants a place to call home in times of struggle and pain. The home is 81 square feet [9’ x 9’] and includes all of the basic amenities for life including sleeping space, bathroom space, living space, and a kitchen. Four squares of spaces make up the home and the bed is lofted above the living space to allow for generous circulation space on the ground floor.

redevelopment Niles, MI A mostly vacant block located in Niles, MI. Urban planning and design done in relationship to the riverfront West of site and Main Street south of site. Schematic design for one building done as “anchor building for entire project. Connections to the city’s industrial past and innovative future are prevolent in the design of both the urban plan and the anchor building. The connection through the site bridges the gap between the nature of Niles and the downtown urban aspect of the city. The anchor building includes a restaurant, retail components, and leasable office space near the heart of downtown Niles, MI. The anchor building is viewed in this project as being the threshold between the fabric and use of downtown Niles and the vastly used Riverfront Park and Wonderland Cinema just north of the site. The cut directly through the center of the site addresses the connection that can be made between the two most visited attractions of Niles. This project strives to connect Niles in a walkable and pragmatic way.

Niles, MI The construction materials implemented in this project are well known to the industrial history of Niles. The use of Corten steel ties into the historical relativity of the material in the city, and the use of brick connects the building to the current building patterns of downtown. The anchor building for this project is meant to connect with the history of Niles while making a leap forward.

140 Fulton Grand Rapids, MI Mixed use project designed for a riverside lot in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The building includes a health club, outpatient therapy care, an assisted living community, and private residences. Grand Rapids is already very relevant when the topic of healthcare comes up, but now the traditional suburban outpatient care centers and assisted living communities can be located on the cusp of the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. This new mixed use healthcare facility for Grand Rapids could set the standart for future developments of this caliber and stature. By using color, light, and texture as driving factors in the design of the spaces and using the psychology of the reactions to those factors to improve quality of life. (project still in conceptual design phase)

Grand Rapids, MI Mixed The site is located in proximity to a major freeway and two streets that cut through the center of downtown Grand Rapids. The adjancency to the river allows for the opportunity to continue the riverfront park that starts far north of the site and currently terminates on the north side of Fulton St W. This park also allows for an extra exhibition space during the ArtPrize festival that takes place every year in Grand Rapids.

home design Grand Rapids, MI Design of home for historic neighborhood in Grand Rapids, MI. A visionary client coupled with strict historic codes resulted in a structure that could fit within the fabric of the community and also brought modern aspects and technology along with it. Placed on a tight triangular lot mere blocks from downtown Grand Rapids, the location of the site demanded an efficient and sought after design. The visions of the client included sleek and modern accessories and character while complying with current codes and zoning restrictions. The use of materials and proportions is largely drawn from precedent in the surrounding community and nearby homes.
