My introduction to THEMAS began in Winter quarter 2019. I had never owned a sketchbook before and felt intimidated at the thought of being graded upon filling one. My initial fears of not being good enough at drawing held me back from opening it up much during Winter quarter 2019, and thus I only had about 20 pages filled out. I felt a pressure to open the sketchbook with intent. Wow, did my mindset change going into Spring quarter.
I started to carry my sketchbook with me everywhere I went. I made an effort to sketch in my book rather than scroll through a news feed when I would find some free time in between my day to day activities. What inspired me to do this type of spontaneous sketching was after learning about the story of Pablo Picasso creating over 50,000 paintings in his lifetime. If Picasso was painting throughout all day to day activities, there is no reason I can't whip out the sketchbook and convey my thoughts through my pen.
I'm so glad I ended up sketching more. I encourage you to as well.
