hi! my name is steven widyatmadja.

academic experiences 2016

i am recently graduated as bachelor of science in architecture department of bandung institute of technology (itb).

2016 2016

my field of interests in architectural design are residential, commercial, cultural, hospitality, and high-rise buildings. i’m not really into urban design, even less landscape design. but i’m always willing to learn! i have a big interest and dreams in building information modeling, because i believe that bim is the tool for architecture to shape a better world in a more effective and efficient way in the future. i’m a rockstar wanna be, especially bryan adams. but i also want to shape the world in a beautiful and magnificent way like le corbusier, mies van de rohe, norman foster and others do, so i decided to pursue my dream in world architecture. try me! pink is the color of passion - aerosmith

LEMPUYANGAN TRAIN STATION a new integrated lempuyangan station

type academic supervisor prof. dr. -ing. ir. widjaja martokusumo site lempuyangan, yogyakarta category transportation year 2014 - fourth year in collaboration with fhe (germany) and ugm (indonesia)

analysis context located in lempuyangan street, yogyakarta.,the 2nd largest station in yogyakarta is lack of space for passengers and services. with urban developments scheduled around the site, lempuyangan station is planned to be upgraded and redeveloped, with additional function such as hotel, visitors center, gallery, and pt kai museum, and other future development (apartment, mall, convention center).

site

surrounded with dense activities and buildings (residential, institutions, commercials), with highway in the east and traffic-jam-center in both east and west, the new lempuyangan station will be a big boost for another density in the area

light rail transit station will be added replacing former kridosono stadium, and the rail track is planned along the mas suharto street, in the west of the station.

to provide accessibility from the lrt station to lempuyangan station, a pedestrian walkaway will be added through the north side of the site (formerly pt kai warehouses)

concept massing

the main building is built from the north to the south to serves passengers from the both sides. the preserved building is located in the east

the by-pass bridging the north and south station. both station are shaped that way to avoid bulky impressions

zoning

gallery to connect the old station with the new south station. the mass is a rectangular box, with similar facade to the old station and flat roof to give modern impressions of the heritage building

to provide direct access to the by pass, ramps and stairs is added to north side of the north station and the west side of both the south station. the north ramps and stairs is framing the main plaza, welcoming passengers and pedestrians from the north

curve roof is added to the top of the building to give the station elegant yet simple image, to become the new district landmark and a contrast juxtaposition to the old station

zone 1 for public: non-ticket passangers and pedestrians in the whole 1st floor of the both station building

1st floor

zone 1 for public in the by-pass, and zone 2: waiting area for passengers with ticket. zone 1 and zone 2 are separated with elevators, lifts, and ticket machines.

2nd floor

elevators and escalators connect zone 2 and zone 3: the platforms. ramps provide direct access from the main plaza and western plaza to the station, for pedestrians to go to the by-pass.

access

the main plaza, connecting the station with krasak timur street and yos sudarso street. surrounded with trees, the plaza acts as the gate for the by-pass and a new center for public activities, such as the famous alun-alun

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT CENTER national music incubator space

type academic supervisor ir. baskoro tedjo mseb ph.d site kebon kawung, bandung category performing arts center year 2015 - final project most favourite final project on april 2016 final project exhibition

analysis context the site is located in the intersection area of two different transportation mode: light rail transit and train. the site is 5km away from husein sastranagara airport and 6km away from pasteur toll road, and is also passed by lot of minibus this make the site is really accessible for visitors and audiences, either from town, out of town or even abroad.

train station LRT station railway LRT line 1 LRT line 2 site access from tollgate access from airport

site

circulation

the traffic on the north is a one way traffic, and there is two-ways traffic on the west. it takes about 400m walk from the station

accessibility

as the result of the circulation around the site, there are two possible access points: from the north and east side

noise

the loudest noise will be from the railway (100db) which is 200m on the south. the lrt and traffic around the site will contribute a lot of noise

concept zoning & massing

using the setback as the green area for noise buffer, covered with trees

the builldable area is divided into 3 main zone: amin building, parking area and public plaza

the main building mass is a rectangular box as an adaptation to site, the parking building mass adapts to the of site

the main building mass is adjusted, based on levels and programs, to give a dynamic expression of an ordinary rectangular box

the mass is covered by deconstructive shape to give the building an impression as a landmark

shaping “the deconstruction of traditional sundanese roof as a translation of explorative, expressive and creative bandung music scene the shape of the building comes from the physical form that represents bandung and music as the spirit that shapes the form.

traditional sundanese house with the authentic sundanese roof

the traditional sundanese roof form applied after the building mass

bandung music scene is famous for the explorative, expressive and creative musicians. these spirits shape the physical form of traditional sundanese roof, from the formal and conventional one to the modern and dynamic shape.

sequence with the vision as the national music incubator space, the programs in the building should tempt the visitors to be involved in the music world “space-event-movement” is the main concept of the sequence. the movement is connecting events that fill the space. the events in the sequence is named music cycle:

flexibility to provide many possible events, from music, conference, night club, worship, and even wedding, the main hall should be flexible, both physic and acoustic. because of the rectangular form, the hall is divided into two. the one closer to the stage is provided with reflector ceiling, and the other one is with absorber ceiling. the hall is equipped with refractable seatings, balcony and movable partition wall to provide options for events held inside.

default adjustment for festival audience

tribune from retractable seating and balcony

additional seatings installed manualy

movable partition wall to divide the auditorium

the listen zone consists music communities and record stores, where visitors will listen background music played and the curiosity will lead them to try to play musical instrument in the stores and rehearsal studios in play zone. the recording studio in record provide chances to record the music composition, before performing in the perform zone: restaurants, cafes and bars and the main auditorium.

“we shape our building, thereafter our building shape us” - winston churchill program aside from music facilities, the building must offer commercial facilities, so the visitors would still come even when there are no music performance in the main auditorium. commercial facilities offered are cinema, bookstore, restaurants, cafes and bars.

SANGKURIANG OFFICE

daily getaway office of an architecture consultant

type real project status proposal internship at pt dwipa agung purnawarman client pt sangkuriang supervisor aris adhi nugraha role architect year 2016

context the site is located in a colonial-style residential area, 800m from one of the biggest shopping center in bandung, paris van java.

the site is located in a colonial style residential area, even some buildings are new and not adapting the styles surrounding

the client is pt sangkuriang, an established architecture-engineering consultant, who wants to demolish their old office in the same location and rebuild the new one. pt dap proposed two design alternatives: one is the pragmatical-efficient and this one-a more recreational and leisure office.

the possible ground floor area on the site, with longer setback to provide parking spaces, addressed to guests and visitors.

the possible floor area on the site, making it a bulk, tall and stand-out building.

to respect the surrounding houses (and their colonialism style), the floor is reduced gradually.

renzo piano building workshop is the main precedent for the concept, a terraced form office that enable people to seeing through levels without obstacles

a usual office concept is linear row of working space. in this concept, the terraced form enable people to seeing through levels. because the limitation of the site, the terraced form is only applied in spaces for studio. this condition is expected to trigger employers creativity, so the firm can produce magnificent works-something that is rare for them today, according from the client itself.

with the floors reduced, the terraced concept can be applied by cutting some spaces for void.

shed roof enclosed the terraced building mass, with an elevator box, polycarbonate roof and an opening as accents.
