Patterson’s

It is back, the 13th edition of Patterson Post. This is my family Christmas newsletter. We do this instead of Christmas cards. Amber is now in the 10th grade. She is very active in church and helps with the children at church. Steve is doing graphic design and has

started to work on a bachelors in Theology at Andersonville Theological Seminary. He is also actively helping the youth at church. Steve is also still maintaining his Christian blog: Courageous Christian Father. You can visit his blog at courageouschristianfather. com.

I plan to do a different type of theme each year with Patterson Post. So if you have a theme idea, let me know. If you missed last years, you missed a recipe guide. You can download past issues at tinyurl.com/pattersonpostnewsletter Thanks for reading!

This years theme will be a song book, with Christmas Songs

Most Popular Christmas Songs

Decorations and shopping are integral parts of the holiday season, but very often it is the music being played over the airwaves that sets the tone for the festivities to come. Christmas music has been enjoyed for decades and certain compositions are widely loved and played year after year. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, who compiles lists of the most popular songs, lists “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and “Winter Wonderland,” both of which were written in 1934, as the oldest and most popular tunes. The newest popular song is “Wonderful Christmastime,” composed in 1979. Though personal preference often determines a holiday playlist, the following tunes are of the more popular Christmas songs: “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” - Mel Torme, Robert Wells “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” - Fred Coots, Haven Gillespie “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” - Ralph Blane, Hugh Martin “Winter Wonderland” - Felix Bernard, Richard B. Smith “White Christmas” - Irving Berlin “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” - Johnny Marks “Jingle Bell Rock” - Joseph Carleton Beal, James Ross Boothe “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” - Walter Kent, Kim Gannon, Buck Ram “Little Drummer Boy” - Katherine K. Davis, Henry V. Onorati, Harry Simeone

“Sleigh Ride” - Leroy Anderson, Mitchell Parish

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” - Edward Pola, George Wyle “Silver Bells” - Jay Livingston, Ray Evans “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” - Johnny Marks “Feliz Navidad” - Jose Feliciano “Blue Christmas” - Billy Hayes, Jay W. Johnson “Frosty the Snowman” - Steve Nelson, Walter E. Rollin “A Holly Jolly Christmas” - Johnny Marks “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” Tommie Connor “Here

Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)” - Gene Autry, Oakley Haldeman “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” - Meredith Willson “(There’s No Place Like) Home for the Holidays” - Bob Allen, Al Stillman

“Carol of the Bells” - Peter J. Wilhousky, Mykola Leontovich “Santa Baby” - Joan Ellen Javits, Philip Springer, Tony Springer “Wonderful Christmastime” - Paul McCartney “White Christmas” is the most covered Christmas song of all time. There are more than 500 versions in several different languages. Compliments of Metro Services.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

I really can’t stay - Baby it’s cold outside I’ve got to go away - Baby it’s cold outside This evening has been - Been hoping that you’d drop in So very nice - I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what’s your hurry? My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar So really I’d better scurry - Beautiful, please don’t hurry Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some records on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it’s bad out there Say, what’s in this drink? - No cabs to be had out there I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now To break this spell - I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell I ought to say no, no, no - Mind if I move in closer?

At least I’m gonna say that I tried - What’s the sense in hurting my pride? I really can’t stay - Baby don’t hold out Ah, but it’s cold outside I’ve got to go home - Oh, baby, you’ll freeze out there Say, lend me your coat - It’s up to your knees out there You’ve really been grand - Thrill when you touch my hair But don’t you see - How can you do this thing to me? There’s bound to be talk tomorrow - Think of my life long sorrow At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died I really can’t stay - Get over that hold out Ah, but it’s cold outside Oh, baby, it’s cold outside Oh, baby, it’s cold outside Words & Music by: Frank Loesser

A Prayer of Salvation Lord Jesus,

I have sinned against you. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose again. I repent (turn) from my sins and trust you alone to forgive me of my sins. Amen

Christmas in Dixie

By now in New York City. There’s snow on the ground. And out in California. The sun shines’ falling down. And maybe down in Memphis, Graceland’s all in lights. And in Atlanta, Georgia, there’s peace on earth tonight.

Christmas in Dixie, it’s snowing in the pines. Merry Christmas from Dixie to everyone tonight. It’s windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school. There’s magic in Motown. The city’s on the move. In Jackson, Mississippi to Charlotte, Caroline.

And all across the Nation, it’s a peaceful Christmas time. Christmas in Dixie, it’s snowing in the pines.

Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight. And from Fort Payne, Alabama. [Spoken:] God bless you all, We love ya, Happy New Year, Good night, Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas tonight… By Alabama

The Hidden Meaning: Day of

12 CHRISTMAS

People often seem to think of The Twelve Days of Christmas as the days preceding the festival. As you may be aware, actually Christmas is a season of the Christian Year that lasts for days beginning December 25 and through January 6 – the Day of Epiphany when the church celebrates the revelation of Christ as the light of the world and recalls the journey of the Magi. From 1558 until 1829 Roman Catholics in England were not allowed to practice their faith openly. During that era someone wrote ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ as a kind of secret catechism that could be sung in public without risk of persecution. The song has two levels of interpretation: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of the church. Each element in the carol is a code word for a religious reality.

No Baikees Cook

1. The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ. 2. The two turtledoves are the Old and New Testaments. 3. Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love. 4. The four calling birds are the four Gospels. 5. The five gold rings recall the Torah (Law) the first five books of the Old Testament. 6. The six geese a-laying stand for the six days of creation. 7. Seven swans a-swimming represent the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit. 8. The eight maids a-milking are the eight beatitudes. 9. Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the spirit (Gal.5). 10. The ten lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments. 11. Eleven pipers piping stand for the eleven faithful disciples. 12. Twelve drummers drumming symbolize the 12 points of belief in the Apostles Creed. Reprinted from 2006 Patterson Post
