SINKER STELLAR
T HE SINK S PACE RECONFIGURED Whirlpool, a leader in the innovation and design of durable higher-end and efficient home appliances, gave my class the task of revisiting and improving the kitchen sink. After extensive research, I recognized the need to enhance the user’s experience by going beyond the sink.
KITCHEN SINK RITUALS
Considering a families daily “rituals” around the sink, I chose to design a product that would address time spent and wasted space.

As a member of the Little Giant design team, I’ve worked in all phases of the industrial design process from product research and concept sketching, to 3D modeling and prototyping. I’ve also lead the creation of two new ladder lines: The Quantum and SmartStep.
Rapid Ideation Sketches
The SmartStep is a lightweight, industrial strength adaptive stepladder for in-home, commercial, and professional use. The SmarStep features extra deep rungs and wide-flared back feet for extra stability. It can be used safely on stairs and uneven surfaces because both sides telescope independently.

The Quantum is lighter, faster, and easier to use than any other multi-use ladder. The Quantum features the new spring-assisted Rapid Locks and is compatible with the Airdeck workstation and the Quatum Step. Best of all, the Quantum comes with the Ratchet Levelers, which adjust hands-free and allow the operator to use the ladder on uneven ground.

There is a large market of products for police officers on bikes but no helmet.
MEET CLARK H e n e e d s a b e tte r H e l m e t Clark is a police officer in New York City. He really enjoys using a bike at work because it allows him to stay active and keep out of traffic jams. Each morning his wife sends him off to work with a kiss because she knows it’s a dangerous occupation. Clark’s favorite part of the day is coming home and in order to do so he needs a helmet that can protect him and fit his work style.

STUCK IN THE AIRPORT? This happend to me one summer when my flight was delayed in Peru. Being a college student on a tight budget, I could not afford to stay at a hotel and was forced to spend the night on the floor. The end result was sleep deprivation, stress, and physical discomfort. This led me to create a product that stranded travelers can rent to spend a more comfortable, private, and secure night on the airport floor.
Disecting The Issues
Anyone who has experienced any air travel, has gone through some type of flight delay. Travel delay can cause stress, physical discomfort, sleep deprivation, and pain. Whether one is traveling for business or pleasure, these inconveniences are common.

Goal: Create a working product to minimize travel inconvenience.

Taking inspiration from the caterpillar, the Oruga is an origami sleeping shell designed to be portable, light weight, and easy to use.
The Oruga Anatomy
The Oruga is made of two-wall polypropylene sheets that extends to 8 ft in length and weighs 18 lbs. Both the shell and mat fold together into a hexagon for easy transport and storage. Snap fasteners along with a shoulder strap secure the folded hexagon in place. A layer of foam adds comfort to the mat and the shell acts as an excellent insulator.

a-mor-phous Adjective: Without a clearly defined shape or form. Unclassifiable.
DESIGN BRIEF Work in a group of four to design a non-traditional lighting fixture using polycarbonate plastic sheets and repurposed wood, manufacture 18, and sell them at a public show for $30 each.
MASS PRODUCTION We used a laser cutter to score the folds, and a table saw and sanders to shape each wooden base.
PUBLIC SALE
Our Amorphous lamps were a huge success. They sold out in less than an hour and we took several orders at $40 each.
