BLACKBERRY Z10 ‘PEEK’ HOLSTER Featured on CrackBerry, Tekoholic, BerryFlow and more
During my internship at BlackBerry my brief was to design a new carry solution for the recently released BlackBerry Z10 device aimed at a younger demographic (18-25). The leather ‘Peek Holster’ looks to mirror key features of BlackBerry’s re-designed operating system to add unique functionality to the accessory compared to other BlackBerry carry solutions. Younger individuals commonly check their devices regularly in order to stay updated on notifications. This influenced -

design direction and the primary function of the holster. Its shape allows individuals to preview notifications without removing device from case unlike traditional solutions. Combining device and holster horizontally also make for easier separation. Additionally the ‘Peek’ holster permits access to the USB and HDMI ports of the Z10, eliminating the need to remove the device. This feature reduces clutter on work surfaces during charging.

HUB | NEW BALANCE Exhibited at Made in Brunel 2014
A university based projection study looking at a brands possible repositioning based on future trends and technologies. By 2030 obesity is set to rise by 73% demonstrating a need to encourage healthy and active habits at earlier ages. ‘Hub’ aims to combat this issue by gamifying more active lifestyles amongst young individuals. Hub works by using skin adhering fitness trackers to monitor a users activity levels throughout the day. Each tracker is assigned a colour, and can be docked with the hub which collates multiple users results.
8
When all trackers are docked, the hub will project a coloured illumination associated with the most active user. This illumination passes through the transparent body of the trackers. Hub does not look to radically solve health issues, it merely looks to be a subtle reminder within the home, which could potentially motivate youngsters to be more active through friendly competition. Being family orientated promotes rewards and encouragement from parents to children.

After deconstructing New Balances’ brand design guidelines a relevant colour scheme and associated styling were finalised. ‘Hub’ was modeled, progressing through sketch and CAD development to a final handmade piece. The body was cut and sanded from a combination of ureal and polished acrylic. It was then sprayed and branded using transfers.

CHALLENGING THE STEREOTYPE Editorial / Illustration design.
A piece designed and written as part of a final year design module on a topic of my own finding. The piece explores the effects of multiplayer gaming, its effect on social behavior, and the future direction of multiplayer with the emergence of next gen devices. The layout was intentionally minimal and utilised a progressive colour scheme, with accompanying illustrations. This makes the piece both easy and engaging to read. Primary software used consisted of Illustrator and InDesign. Available at: http://issuu.com/stevepurvey09/docs/booklet_steve_purvey_issu

BLACKBERRY NFC SPEAKER Featured on Berryflow
Part of a brief completed during my internship at BlackBerry. The speaker aims to utilise near field communication encouraging multiple users to quickly interact and share music in a social context. NFC pairing is rapid compared to bluetooth and the hollow shape of the speaker aims to provide increased acoustics for its compact size. Its simple form allows it to be placed in multiple orientations, fitting perfectly onto cluttered worksurfaces.
