Engaging, exhilarating, colourful and intoxicating India is often described as a continent, rather than a country and each region has something different to offer. From the ever iconic Taj Mahal, to the peaceful climes of the Himalayas, the colonial Kolkata in the east, and the bustle of Mumbai in the west, all the way to the geographical and spiritual heart of India in Varanasi – you’re never short of choice. Take the unforgettable Northern state of Rajasthan for example, a land of desert

landscapes, otherworldly palaces and imposing forts. Its long and interesting history has left it peppered with pretty buildings and dramatic old military sites that are not only to be admired in terms of aesthetics, but also for the stories they tell. Travelling to the south in India could almost be like seeing a different country. Characterised by stunning, sweeping coastlines, exotic flora and fauna and the heady scent of spices, south India is where

you will find colonial hill stations, beautiful backwaters and multicultural towns tinged by the colours of the past. With such a varied landscape stuffed with diverse historical landmarks and cultures, this is truly a destination that can be visited again and again. But whatever you decide, we guarantee you won’t be bored, nor will you forget your experience such is the power of India.

Clients often say “We want to go on a safari” and that is when the real work begins. It is important we find out as much as possible before taking the enquiry further. This covers information such as the county they want to visit, the type of safari, their budget and what they really want to see. In addition, it also covers what they might want to do before and after the safari. To take the first point, which country. Africa has around ten countries offering safari holidays with each having its own attractions, wildlife experiences and accommodation. Secondly, the type of safari is important. Is one based in one lodge preferred, or a mobile safari using a number of lodges? Travel as part of a small group or tailored to their individual requirements? Stay in luxury accommodation or more traditional tent based safari?

The budget. Having an indication of this enables us to use our knowledge and expertise to select the best options to suit our clients’ expectations. What to see? We are often told “we want to see large herds of elephants” or “to see leopards” or “love to see wild dogs”. Whereas nothing can be guaranteed we work with our African partner tour operators to try to fulfil these requests. Pre & post safari. The majority of our clients do add other options to their safari such as other sightseeing, self-drives, rail journeys, beach stays and much more. As tailor made travel experts we are all experienced in putting together the very best itinerary for each client with no two holidays being the same.

A whole continent to contemplate China is a huge country, the most populous in the world and 73 times the size of England. It has an array of cultures and landscapes, from the Tibetan people, living on the plateaus of Tibet, to modern and cosmopolitan Shanghai. It also offers a wonderful range of cuisine to tantalise the tastebuds, with flavours unique to each region that you visit. No trip to China would be complete without a trip to the Great Wall of China and ticking the Terracotta Warriors - one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, off your list, India, is second only to China in terms of population, but competes adequately in terms of variety. This fascinating country can truly offer an assault on all the senses. Indian food, which

is not like the Indian dishes that you find here in the UK, is so much better, with greater flavours and the ‘naan’ bread is to die for. The colours that you see whilst travelling throughout the country are beautiful whether you are travelling through the state of Rajasthan or if you are visiting during the annual Holi festival. On a trip to India you cannot fail to make a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal, a wonderful symbol of love and devotion. Southeast Asia includes countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma and Malaysia, all of which are unique countries to visit. You can climb on the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, or cruise through Halong Bay on a traditional Junk boat, relax on the

pristine beaches of Thailand, or marvel at the centuries old temples in the newly opened, Burma. Allow yourself plenty of time to soak up each atmosphere and indulge the senses. Wendy Wu Tours are the award winning specialist operator to Asia, and can take you to all of these destinations and more, on one of their authentic group tours, allowing you to experience the local culture and cuisines whilst in the safe hands of local award winning guides. They also offer private, and tailor-made holidays for anyone wanting a little more exploration or luxury. They really do have something to inspire everyone travelling to Asia.

Where East meets West For many the epitome of the exotic, Asia is colourful, sensual, spiritual and beautiful. Titan’s Asia holidays, fully escorted for your peace of mind, feature undoubted icons of world travel including the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China, memorable encounters with the giant panda and the Bengal tiger and magical scenery from Yangtze river gorges to lush tropical jungles, along with a cavalcade of glittering temples, vibrant street markets and superb restaurants serving up mouth-watering local delicacies. Most of our Asian destinations have a history of European colonial influence, adding an ‘east meets west’ dimension to their national character and city skylines. Colonial echoes in places as diverse as Shanghai’s Bund, the erstwhile Burmese capital of Mandalay, the trading port of Malacca and tea-producing highlands of Sri Lanka, attest further to European ambition in Asia.

But it’s Japan that offers a glimpse of ancient and traditional ways of life existing in harmony with hi-tech mega-city living. Titan’s 14 day ‘Essence of Japan’ tour illustrates these two extraordinary contradictions perfectly. From thrilling ultra-modern cities in fabulous technicolour, to where cherry blossoms and hydrangea bloom in spring and maple trees blaze fiery red in autumn your senses will be invigorated. Tour highlights include Tokyo, Hiroshima and the lightning-fast Shinkansen (Bullet Train), all enhanced with the most gracious hospitality of the Japanese. The full itinerary and many more are available in Titan’s worldwide 2015/16 brochure available now, and remember - EVERY Titan holiday includes our renowned VIP Home Departure Service as standard.

Clean, cobalt-hued seas, beaches of all sizes and consistencies and reliable sunshine for up to nine months of each year, ensure a winning combination that makes Greece a perennial holiday favourite. The mainland and islands of Greece also boast fascinating archaeological finds, thousands of historic monuments and museums, delightful traditional villages, family-owned tavernas, exceptional seafood and delicious wines. Athens is vibrant, hectic, often spectacular, always exhilarating and packed with some of the world’s most important historical monuments. It’s also exhausting, so twin your stay in the capital with time on the delightful coastline of the Peloponnese or amongst the sandy beaches, pine forests and beautiful architecture of tiny Spetses.

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second city offering hip culture, shopping and nightlife and is handy to combine with Halkidiki’s and the Olympus Riviera’s scenic coastline which features more than forty blue-flag beaches. The luxuriously verdant island of Corfu boasts clear, azure waters, fantastic beaches and a Venetian style capital where cricket is played. Kefalonia is the largest and most mountainous of the Ionian islands with delightful bays and pine-covered slopes made famous in the film Captain Corelli’s mandolin. Famed for its vineyards, almond groves, green fertile hills and delightful spring and autumn flowers, Zante is beloved for its natural beauty. Dazzling Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan islands of the Cyclades and is famed for its picturesque windmills, sugar-cube houses, first class hotels and great nightlife. Sultry Santorini stuns with spectacular sunsets,

towering cliffs, black volcanic beaches and blue-domed churches. From there pop over to the lush and mountainous island of Naxos. One of the most popular Greek islands, Kos, is close to the Turkish coast and is famous for its excellent beaches and warm Aegean waters. Rhodes has been worshipped since ancient Greek times as the Island of Sun; a collection of delightful bays, flowers and forests, handsome towns and ancient sites means that visitors are only too happy to continue the veneration. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and is widely regarded as a country within a country, not least by the Cretans who are welcoming and hospitable, and fiercely proud of their history, golden sandy beaches, clear Aegean waters and are cheered by the fact that they enjoy the longest summer in Europe.

An idyllic journey along the Rhône and Saône Few places in Europe have the timeless charm and allure of southern France. And, there is no better way to explore this region than sailing the idyllic Saône and Rhône rivers on a new Viking Longship. Lazing on the sun deck, sipping a glass of perfectly chilled Côte de Beaune – you couldn’t wish for a more perfect start to your journey. From the pretty town of Chalon, sail to Burgundy’s wine capital of Beaune, where you can visit the medieval Hôtel Dieu with its spectacular tiled roof, and discover the region’s famous vintages. Enjoy time to explore historic Lyon, the food capital of France, and explore the ancient riverside

town of Vienne with its Roman monuments. In Tain l’Hermitage, visit a traditional winery. In beautiful Arles, where Van Gogh produced some of his finest works, discover Les Arènes, the vast Roman amphitheatre. More incredible treasures await you in Avignon, where you can visit the magnificent UNESCO-listed Gothic Palace of the Popes, with its palatial rooms and wealth of art. Take a stroll – or perhaps even dance – along its famous pont. Make 2015 the year that you discover this irresistible region with Viking.

A gem on the Turquoise coast Kalkan is the kind of laid-back, lazy resort where time can pass doing virtually nothing but soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying your holiday. Spend your days swimming in the clear Mediterranean waters, perhaps from one of the many seafront ‘beach’ clubs, where you can also enjoy watersports such as waterskiing and jetski. Then, what could be better than an early evening promenade through the narrow streets to explore the charming shops, before settling down with a glass of wine to admire the views over the harbour-front. Kalkan has an excellent

choice of restaurants - serving authentic local cuisine and freshly-caught fish, as well as a number of lively bars. With over 25 historic sites less than a two hour drive or boat trip away, Kalkan is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. Visit Kekova, the sunken city, which lies submerged just off the coast with its ornately carved columns protruding from the sea. If you feel energetic you can spend a day river canoeing, scuba diving or on a jeep safari exploring mountains, lakes and waterfalls. For day trips

you can visit the Lycian tombs at Dalyan or Tios, the market at Fethiye or just relax on a lazy day boat cruise or on one of the many beautiful beaches. It is certainly easy to understand why Kalkan has such a loyal following amongst our clients, with many of them returning here year after year. It proves particularly popular with couples of all ages, who appreciate the relaxed ambience, the authentic atmosphere and the beautiful setting.

Wonderful Vienna

All aboard for the efficient and charming railways of Switzerland At Great Rail Journeys, we know that travelling by rail throughout Europe (or even beyond) is a rewarding experience. But perhaps this is even truer in Switzerland. The gift of rail travel transformed overland journeys through the beautiful country - where the stunning, wonderfully rugged landscape can now be appreciated, rather than being seen as an attractive but inconvenient obstacle. The rail experience stretches right across the country and all of its terrain, from rapid inter-city routes to the slower rack-and-pinion mountain lines. Getting around Switzerland is quick when you need it to be, but these rail journeys can also be slowed down to appreciate the views of the magnificent panorama outside the window – like on our Glacier Express tours. Billed as ‘the slowest express in the world’, the train passes all sorts of scenery on its route through the Alps, from the snow-topped mountain peaks and rushing rivers to lush

14

meadows, wooden gorges and chocolatebox villages. Other breathtaking landmarks along the line include the famous curved Landwasser Viaduct and the Oberalp Pass, some 6,670 feet (2,203 m) above sea level. The journey is just as spectacular in winter, when layers of frost, ice and snow adorn the mountainsides – and we offer tours on this remarkable route all year round. You can also head to the peaks of soaring mountains in very little time, and with an enviable ease and efficiency. Among the many stunning mountain railway journeys included in our tours, the Jungfrau Railway in the heart of Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland is one of the most extraordinary, as it tunnels from the foot of the mighty Eiger to the highest station in Europe at 11,333 feet (3,454m). We offer a number of tours in all seasons that take in this inspiring journey, such as the Jungfrau Express based in

pretty Meiringen. Each holiday that visits this remarkable mountain also includes other exciting excursions to some of Switzerland’s most fascinating places – along with free time for your own independent exploration. In addition to these, you can relive the bygone era and nostalgia of rail travel on our Switzerland by Steam tour. Recreating the ambience and romance of rail travel as it used to be, we enjoy journeys in period carriages, all hauled by a vintage locomotive. Our tour takes us to the glittering Lake Lucerne as well as Bern, the Swiss capital. So from the romance of steam engines to sleek, modern high-speed trains, there are so many reasons to choose a holiday by rail. Join Great Rail Journeys on one of our Switzerland holidays and you’ll see why ‘by rail’ is the ultimate way to travel.

Vienna – the city of Art and Music The Imperial city of Vienna was the centre of Europe in the 19th Century, and the legacy of this past is evident in the city’s grand architecture, famous cafes and unparalleled cultural institutions. The Ring, which encircles the historic quarter, is lined with buildings of state including the Parliament, the Burgtheater and the University. A walking tour with an expert Kirker guide is the perfect way to explore the medieval centre within, including St. Stephen’s Cathedral and to the Hapsburg’s imperial palace, the Hofburg. A weekend in Vienna is one of the most

rewarding cultural experiences for art and music lovers. For all Kirker clients travelling to Vienna, we include a Masterticket which provides entrance to the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts) and the Leopold Museum. The Kunsthistorisches was built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the vast Habsburg collections, and also houses the Kunstkammer – a spectacular collection of art, jewellery and antiques, which reopened in 2013 after a 10 year restoration. In contrast, the Leopold Museum is the home of Austrian modern art

and includes works by Gustav Klimt. Attracting the world’s leading singers and conductors each season and with the Vienna Philhamonic Orchestra playing at every performance, the Vienna State Opera is one of the top five opera houses in the world. The Kirker Concierge can reserve tickets before you travel for performances at the State Opera, Vienna’s second opera house the Volksoper, or perhaps the famous Spanish Riding School or the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
