Discover with us the beautiful Isle of Man, known as the ‘Jewel in the Irish Sea’, measuring 33 miles long by 13 miles wide it offers a unique combination of seaside holiday resorts, spectacular mountain scenery and a wealth of historic interest. Our base is the islands capital Douglas. The comfortable and elegant Empress Hotel is located on the Victorian promenade overlooking Douglas Bay and is just a short walk from the town centre.

ITINERARY Thursday 15th travel to Heysham for the afternoon sailing to Douglas, complete the short journey to the Empress Hotel. Friday 16th we take a trip over to the west coast for a day to explore the resort of Peel with its flat sandy beach and absorbing attractions. Sitting at the mouth of the harbour is impressive Peel Castle, built in 1392.The House of Manannan is a substantial museum that leads the visitor through the island’s history with some fascinating Celtic and Viking exhibits. If you’re feeling peckish try some traditional Manx cuisine at Moore’s Smoked Kipper Factory, an island favourite. Saturday 17th a free morning to explore Douglas – don’t miss the Manx Museum in the centre of town. In the afternoon we travel north, via Onchan, to the village of Laxey, we visit the Great Laxey Wheel & Mines Trail known affectionately as the “Lady Isabella”. Named after the wife of the Governor and a credit to Victorian engineering, it is the world’s largest working water wheel and an outstanding icon of the island’s long history of mining. Sunday 18th we begin today with a classic journey aboard the Isle of Man Steam Railway from Douglas to the seaside resort of Port Erin, enjoy some free time before we pay a visit to nearby Cregneash Folk Village.The Village provides a living, working illustration of life in a typical 19th century Manx crofting community. We continue to the Sounds Visitor Centre for spectacular views over the Calf of Man before returning to Douglas via Castletown, once the ancient capital of Mann. Monday 19th this morning we explore the north of the island beginning with a visit to Tynwald Hill, home of the 1000 year old Manx Parliament, we continue along some of the TT Course to ‘Royal Ramsey’ which has a working harbour and an interesting maritime history.The afternoon is free back in Douglas. Tuesday 20th following an early breakfast we travel to the port for the return sailing to Heysham.

One day we take a scenic drive through Dartmoor National Park to include the pretty village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor with its large church known as the ‘Cathedral of the Moor’, delightful Moretonhampstead with its Jacobean almshouses, Postbridge and Princetown the highest town on Dartmoor. Another day we combine a steam train ride from Paignton to Kingswear with a short trip on the ferry across the River Dart to Dartmouth, there is then free time in Dartmouth before taking a cruise on the River Dart to Totnes you then have time in Totnes before the coach returns you to Paignton. Another morning takes you to the traditional Devon market town of Tavistock where you have time to browse and get coffee before boarding the coach for the short trip to Buckland Monachorum where we visit two wonderful gardens. Both gardens are connected to Keith Wiley,The Garden House is where Keith was head gardener/manager from 1978-2003 it has been described as ‘perhaps the most breath-taking of all gardens’ – Rachel de Thame. Wildside Nursery used to be a Devon cider orchard until Keith & his wife Ros relocated in 2004, they created an ambitious new garden where natural landscapes are still the inspiration for both planting and painting today.

Our base for this holiday is in the Suffolk town of Ipswich, ideally placed for exploring the scenery and rich heritage of Constable Country, the artist’s native landscape that became inspiration for his paintings, and the Suffolk coast which is also an area recognised for its landscape of unique beauty. Originally a Jacobean hunting lodge, the 3* Belstead Brook Hotel combines historic charm & character with the best of modern facilities.The hotel is nestled amongst 9 acres of mature wooded parkland alongside a brook and feature gardens.

EXCURSIONS

Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo (NT*), Lavenham & the Guildhall (NT*), Gainsborough’s House, Constable Country, Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, Southwold and the National Stud at Newmarket. We call at Woodbridge one morning before going to nearby Sutton Hoo (NT), the Anglo-Saxon royal burial site where priceless treasure was discovered in 1939. We see the reconstruction of the burial chamber which tells the story of the site, described as ‘page one of English history’. Another morning we visit Lavenham, one of Britain’s best preserved medieval villages, we include entrance to the historic Guildhall (NT). In the afternoon we head on to the market town of Sudbury, and visit Gainsborough’s House the birthplace museum of Thomas Gainsborough, one of Britain’s greatest painters. Constable Country is our destination on another day, we first visit Flatford Mill the scene of Constable’s most famous painting for a guided morning walk. We then go to East Bergholt, an unspoilt village and the birthplace of the famous painter and finally to the lovely village of Dedham where he went to school. Another day we call at Snape Maltings before going to the charming seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold. On our return journey home we pay a visit to the National Stud at Newmarket, the showcase for British thoroughbred horse breeding, for a behind the scenes look at one of the most prestigious stud farms in the country.

We then travel the short distance to Tenterden with its wide tree-lined main street.This picturesque village is known as ‘The Jewel of the Weald’ and its fine high street ranks amongst the most attractive in the country. We include a steam train ride on the Kent & East Sussex Railway to Bodiam before returning to our hotel. Another day we visit Nymans (NT)*, set in the High Weald with splendid views, the garden is a series of experimental designs with spectacular planting and beauty all year. Both a horticulturalist’s dream and a peaceful country garden, it is easy to lose yourself in its intimate and surprising corners. We pay a visit to Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre on another day, an open air museum site dedicated to the industrial heritage of the South East, exhibits include a narrow-gauge railway and bus service (both provide free nostalgic travel around the site), Connected Earth telecommunications hall, energy electricity hall, printing workshop and much more.The museum is also home to traditional crafts people, plus a restaurant and gift shop. On our return journey home on Saturday we make a stop in historic Windsor.

We also spend some time in the quaint moors village of Goathland better known as ‘Aidensfield’ in the popular TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Another morning we travel to nearby Filey, a traditional seaside resort with a five mile stretch of award winning golden beach, after some free time it’s all aboard the coach to pay an afternoon visit to dramatic Rievaulx Abbey (EH). Our guided tour reveals what life as a monk would have been like. We spend a full day in the picturesque seaside town of Whitby on another day, with its quaint streets and busy fishing harbour. The town bustles with an array of shops and cafes and you can take a boat trip to Caldey Island from the harbour, famous for its Abbey and ancient priory church. The Giltar Hotel is a lovely Victorian building situated on the Esplanade in Tenby, it overlooks the stunning views of the South Beach and the monastic Island of Caldey. One morning we take a leisurely drive along the lovely Pembrokeshire coast to visit the remarkable little “city” of St.Davids, no bigger than a village, with its magnificent cathedral. Another day we first enjoy a guided tour of magical Picton Castle, a cross between medieval castle and fortified manor house, set in 40 acres of stunning gardens. In the afternoon we travel the short distance to the Cwm Deri Vineyard, a working smallholding which first opened to the public in 1992, the vineyard is now one of Wales’ foremost visitor attractions, a guided tour and tasting is included. Another morning we head to the north of the county, via pretty Narberth and the bluestone Preseli Mountains to the lovely village of Cenarth set beside the beautiful Cenarth Falls. We enjoy a short guided tour of the interesting National Coracle Centre followed by some free time in Cenarth. We then continue to the Museum of Childhood which has a unique collection of over 10,000 exhibits, take a stroll down memory lane and see toys from your past. On Friday we’re homeward bound, but first we enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Gower Peninsula as we explore some of the highlights of Britain’s first official ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. We enjoy a guided tour of the Gower to include the Mumbles, Rhossili Bay and a visit to Swansea waterfront.

We continue via the coast road to Alum Bay famous for its multi-coloured sand cliffs and breathtaking views of The Needles and lighthouse. We conclude with a visit to the pretty resort of Yarmouth which has a bustling town, natural harbour, pier and a castle. We also spend a day first visiting Rosemary’s Vineyard which makes the most of the mild climate and who are one of the largest producers of English wines, ciders, liquers and fruit juices! This is followed by a visit to Seaview Wildlife Encounter, a multi-award winning wildlife attraction set in beautiful, open, natural parklands with magnificent views across the Solent Waters. Quiet roads and waterways criss cross this working landscape dotted with fertile farms, the fields changing in character and colour all year long. Pretty villages and windmills punctuate a land bountiful with fresh produce and where people are friendly and welcoming. The thriving historical village of Woodhall Spa is set in the heart of Lincolnshire, just 19 miles from the city of Lincoln. The Petwood Hotel offers all the elegance, charm and service excellence of times gone by, a grade II listed building set in 30 acres of mature woodland, with a fascinating history. Originally built in 1905, the Petwood was requisitioned by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. In 1943 it became the Officers Mess for 617 Squadron – the “Dam Busters”. Today it is a charming, atmospheric hotel – a firm favourite with Rachel.

EXCURSIONS Barnsdale Gardens, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, Lincoln, Louth, Alford, Stamford. We make our way to Lincolnshire, with a stop at Barnsdale Gardens, home to 38 individual gardens originally created by TV gardener Geoff Hamilton for the BBC’s “Gardeners World” programme. One morning we visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at RAF Coningsby, we enjoy an informative guided tour of the hangar where these historic aeroplanes are meticulously maintained. In the afternoon take time to enjoy the delightful village of Woodhall Spa, home to the Dambusters Memorial. Another day we visit Lincoln, home to an awe inspiring Cathedral. Enjoy a guided tour of the city where we can look back at over 2000 years of history and discover the cities Roman, Norman, Medieval,Tudor and Georgian heritage. After the guided tour you will be able to explore at leisure. We discover the Lincolnshire Wolds on another day, stopping at the charming market town of Louth, we visit stunning St.James’ Church and enjoy a guided tour of the Louth Museum. We continue to the beautiful market town of Alford where we visit Alford Manor House, the house dates from 1611 and is the largest thatched manor house in the country. Finally, no trip to Alford is complete without a visit to the Five Sailed Windmill. Considered the finest in England, the windmill is still in use today. On our return journey home on Friday we make a stop at Stamford, England’s ‘Finest Stone Town’ that has retained much of its old world charm.

The pretty 17th century harbour is the resort’s heritage heartland, where fishermen can be seen with their catch of the day. FESTIVE ITINERARY Monday (alias Christmas Eve) a morning departure for the south coast. After a suitable lunch stop en-route we arrive at our hotel during the afternoon.There is time to settle in before meeting up with everyone for a wine reception in the lounge at 5.30pm. Dinner will be served at 6.15pm in the restaurant followed by Bingo and festive music. Tuesday (alias Christmas Day) today we take an excursion first to maritime Poole, a delightful town with an historic quayside. Afterwards, we cross Poole Harbour by way of the Sandbanks Ferry to the Isle of Purbeck.Travelling via Studland we visit the quaint seaside resort of Swanage where we spend some time before returning to our hotel in Weymouth.Tonight enjoy a good old-fashioned Christmas Dinner with crackers and a visit from “Santa” with gifts for everyone, followed by an evening of entertainment. Wednesday (alias Boxing Day) a free day at leisure in Weymouth.This evening commences with a glowing glass of Christmas Punch served in the bar at 5.30pm followed by an excellent meal served in the restaurant at 6.15pm. A fun evening featuring Bingo, a Fancy Hats competition and Music all take place for your enjoyment after dinner. Thursday (alias New Year’s Eve) our excursion today is to the beautiful historical town of Sherborne with its abundance of medieval buildings, magnificent Abbey and delightful shops. In the evening enjoy the hotel’s version of a Hogmanay Dinner at 6.15pm followed by Party Night entertainment in the Lounge. See in the New Year with a complimentary glass of bubbly and a mince pie followed by Auld Lang Syne, Happy New Year!! BOOKING CONDITIONS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY YOUR CONTRACT IS WITH MRS RACHEL WILLIAMS TRADING AS EASYTRAVEL 1. When you make your booking you must complete a booking form accepting these conditions on behalf of all persons on the booking form and pay a non refundable deposit of £55.00 per person, £65.00 per person for the Isle of Man Holiday (please note payments made by credit card will incur a 1.6% charge).You will then be issued with a booking confirmation and your Insurance policy, please read carefully paying particular attention to the medical warranty, failure to notify us of anything that applies could affect any claim made. Easytravel is an appointed representative of ITC Compliance Ltd which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. 2.The balance of your holiday is due 6 weeks before travel. Bookings within 6 weeks of travel require full payment (please note payments made by credit card will incur a 1.6% charge). If the balance is not paid on time, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and apply the cancellation charges set out below. 3.You or any person on the booking form may cancel your holiday at any time providing that the person making the original booking does so in writing. Cancellation charges will apply as follows: Cancellation more than 42 days before departure date – loss of deposit. Within 8 - 42 days before departure – loss of deposit and a £50.00 charge plus any charges made by the hotel. Less than 8 days before departure 100% of the total cost. If this is an insurable reason this may be recovered on the insurance included in the cost of your holiday. 4. Financial Protection – The Package Travel Regulations 1992 require us to provide security for the monies that you pay for the package holidays booked from this brochure and for your repatriation in the event of our insolvency. We provide this security by way of a bond held by ABTA. 5. If after booking you wish to change to another of our holidays within the same brochure we will do all we can to accommodate you, providing the request is made in writing from the person who made the original booking. 6. Please advise us of any special requests at the time of booking on the booking form under special requirements. If you have any disabilities or special needs please consult us as to the suitability of your chosen hotel. We must stress clients needing any assistance must have a responsible companion with them. 7. If you have a problem during your holiday please notify your courier/driver and the relevant supplier hotel/Easytravel who will do all they can to put things right. Easytravel is a member of ABTA with membership numbers 26458 and W2204, ABTA & ABTA members help holidaymakers to get the most from their travel and assist them when things do not go according to plan. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s code of conduct. Changes in transport costs i.e. the cost of fuel, government taxes or exchange rates mean that the price of your travel arrangements may change after you have booked. However there will be no change within 30 days of your departure. We will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your travel arrangements, which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges.You will be charged for the amount over and above that, plus an administration charge of £3.00pp together with an amount to cover agents commission. If this means that you have to pay an increase of more than10% of the price of your travel arrangements, you will have the option to cancel your holiday with a full refund of all monies paid, except for any amendment charges. Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on your final invoice. 9. We reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements. For example, if the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached, we may have to cancel it. An alternative holiday would be offered in the event of cancellation or a full refund would be made if the alternative were not acceptable. No holiday will be cancelled less than 28 days before departure. Minor alterations will be given to you at once. Any major changes will give you the option of cancelling without charge. Force majeure: we will not pay you compensation if we have to cancel or change your travel arrangements in any way because of unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control.These can include, for example, war, riot, industrial dispute, terrorist activity and its consequences, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions, epidemics & pandemics, unavoidable technical problems with transport. 10. We accept responsibility for ensuring that the holiday you book with us is as described in the brochure and that the services provided reach a reasonable standard. If any part of the holiday is not provided, as stated in the brochure, we will offer you compensation up to the cost of your holiday. 11. We accept responsibility for death or injury caused by the negligent acts and/or omissions of our employees and subcontractors, servants and/or agents of the same whilst acting within the scope of, or in the course of their employment in the provision of your holiday. We will accordingly pay to the client damages as may have been awarded under English law. In respect of carriage by sea and land travel and the provision of accommodation our liability will be limited in the manner provided by the relevant international convention. 12. In the unlikely event of a travel delay of more than 4 hours i.e. breakdown or traffic conditions, Easytravel will do their very best to ensure passengers comfort at all times. If necessary this would include alternative transport and/or refreshments where possible. 13.This contract is made on the terms of these booking conditions, which are governed by English law and both parties shall submit to the jurisdiction of English courts at all times. 14. Data Protection: In order to process your booking and to ensure that your travel arrangements run smoothly and meet your requirements we need to use the information you provide such as name, address, any special needs/dietary requirements etc. We take full responsibility for ensuring that proper security measures are in place to protect your information.
