Bowen Therapy: Effective for Bone Joint Problems and Mental Stress Bowen Therapy is a kind of touch therapy. It includes identification of muscle areas where touch therapy needs to be applied. The therapy is effective in many diseases. Bowen Therapy is considered safe and can be applied on anyone, from newborn infants to highly aged people. What is Bowen technique? Bowen therapy was put forward by Thomas Bowen in 1950s. He developed this technique while working as a therapist in Australia. Soon, the technique became popular in different parts of Australia that includes Bowen therapy Melbourne & Carlton. Thomas Bowen announced that he can quickly identify problems of different patients and cure them through this technique. He claimed the success rate of fully cured patients to be around 88%. In this technique, therapists use rolling movements over the muscles with their fingers to relax the muscles. Generally oil is not used and the procedure can be performed while wearing clothes or directly on to the skin. Therapists apply mild pressure against the muscle or tendon for nearly 3 seconds and then the fingers will roll over the muscle or tendon. This helps the muscles to return to their original position and thus provide relief from pain. Bowen therapy can be applied on various areas of human mind and body. Let's see how Bowen therapy acts on different body areas. •

Joint Proprioreceptors: Due to wrong movements and incorrect posture, the bone joints start aching. Bowen therapy stimulates nerves and correct the body shifts to provide relief from pain.

Lymphatic Circulation: Bowen therapy improves lymphatic circulation and its drainage.

Autonomic Nervous System (ANS): ANS controls 80% of human nervous system and establishes a balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. In conditions of physical and emotional stress, this balance gets disturbed. Bowen therapy reestablishes the balance and provides relief from physical and emotional stress.

Spinal Reflexes: Bowen therapy is applied on different portions of spine to stimulate nerve points and to provide ultimate relaxation to whole body.

Stretch Reflex: Bowen therapy acts on certain muscle areas and stimulates muscle receptors and relaxes the stretched muscles. By relaxing the muscles, the therapy provides relief from pain.

Other Areas: Bowen technique is also applied on other parts of the body by detecting healing points. The therapy works like acupuncture to provide relief from different body aches.

Bowen therapy has been found helpful in different bone joint problems and mental stress such as: Heel spurs, Fibromyalgia, Back Spasms, Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ) and Migraines. It was also found effective in treating asthma. Bowen therapy improves physical movement, bone joint mobility, assimilation of nutrients and helps in the elimination of toxins and waste products.
