Dear Friends of St. Francis Catholic High School, Bienvenue “à Paris en fleurs,” our 13th Annual Revelry Gala and Auction! We are so happy that you have joined us for this belle fête, celebrating our beautiful community. Tonight’s soirée is the culmination of a year-long effort by our hardworking Revelry Committee under the creative and joyful leadership of our chairs, Lisa Breslau (Sophia ’20 and Sarah ’21) and Kristin Venegas ’83 (Juliana ’20). They and their committees have poured incredible time and passion into this event which contributes significantly to the stewardship of our young Troubadours. We extend un grand merci a nos généreux sponsors, especially to our Presenting Sponsor, Socotra Capital, Shirley & John Ingoglia (Presley ’21); and our Platinum Sponsors, Lisa & David Nickum (Ali ’21); Kristen & Edward Rudis (Alee ’16, Bella ’18, Giovanna ’21); and VPI, Veronica Padilla-Valdez ’94 & Vaughn Valdez (Victoria ’19) We are très contents this year to bestow the Spirit of San Damiano Award on deux femmes exceptionnelles who have impacted our community in deep and lasting ways. Marion Slakey, ‘48 has been a beautiful ambassador for our school, a scholarship donor and active alumna. Marion Bishop, our first SF president, has left her legacy on this campus through her leadership and vision. We are thrilled to honor them this evening. Through the generosity of our Revelry guests over the years, our Fund-a-Vision items have enhanced educational programs and state-of-the-art upgrades to our campus. This year we ask you to raise your paddle to help us fund scholarships to continue empowering the next generation of smart leaders, creative thinkers and global citizens. Every gift has a direct impact on our young women, equipping them with the tools they need to become the leaders and givers of tomorrow. On behalf of today’s 1,070 Troubies and yesterday’s 10,000-plus alumnae, help us continue the legacy of St. Francis. On behalf of our faculty and staff, and all the Troubies who benefit from your generosity, I offer ma sincère reconnaissance. Your support provides our students with a life-changing experience, offering opportunities to know God, appreciate their unique gifts and talents, and understand their responsibility to be of service to others. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our school. We pray for you often, asking the intercession of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Please pray for us that we continue to be good stewards of your many gifts, including your wonderful daughters. Through your support and collaboration we continue to graduate “young women who change the world” --“des jeunes femmes qui changent le monde”--. Cordialement, Theresa Rodgers President

Letter from the Chairs Dear Revelry Supporters and Patrons, Welcome! We are thrilled that you are with us this evening. We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for showing up and standing up for our future. It really does take a village to make this happen, and each one of you has played a role in supporting young women with visions and big dreams, even those dreams that don’t always seem attainable. With a St. Francis High School education, we allow our young women the freedom to dream, to strive and to learn, without limits. It is a cornerstone of our Troubies’ futures. May they go into the world with confidence knowing that their village has their back. This village is comprised of some stellar benefactors – from the strong leadership of SFHS’s chief, Theresa Rodgers; to her incredible team of frontrunners, the Advancement team’s Mary Anne Kelly and Mari Parisi (a Troubie alumna herself!); to the dedicated staff and faculty; and the devoted parent volunteers who have all poured heart and soul into raising the possibilities for our young women. Tonight, is about lifting up our Troubies. Thank you to everyone in this room for participating in that goal. And special thanks to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring you this opportunity to revel in the fun of our fundraising endeavors! May we all go from strength to strength. A la votre! Lisa Breslau & Kristin Venegas

MEET OUR SPIRIT OF SAN DAMIANO AWARD RECIPIENTS

Marion Bishop Marion Bishop served for 12 years as the first President of St. Francis Catholic High School. She often referred to that part of her career as “the ride of a lifetime.” Her accomplishments can best be described as crucial, turning-point projects in the school’s history. Her hand in the planning and expansion of the physical campus resulted in the addition of a state-of-the-art science wing, a performing arts center, religious sculpture and art, and a new academic administration office building. These changes also led to a beautifully-remodeled campus life center and new counseling offices. Marion pushed for a new gymnasium, locker room and physical fitness center, originally absent from the construction plan. She recognized that our growing student body needed space to gather for assemblies, liturgies and events. Always about more than buildings, Marion’s commitment to our Troubies was evident in everything she did and continues to do. She and her husband Paul have generously funded scholarships that enable young women in the greater Sacramento area to have a St. Francis education. Marion Bishop’s legacy of faith, excellence, leadership and service was crafted by her heartfelt devotion to the education of young women at St. Francis Catholic High School.

Most High glorious God, bring light to the darkness of my heart. Give me right faith, certain hope,

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SAN DAMIANO CROSS All Franciscans cherish the San Damiano cross as the symbol of the mission from God to commit our lives and resources to renew and rebuild the Church in the power of God. There is no better way to renew the Church than by educating young women to be models of Pax et Bonum (peace and goodness) while developing their gifts and talents through leadership and service.

and perfect charity, insight and wisdom, so I can always observe Thy holy and true command. Amen. PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS BEFORE THE CROSS AT SAN DAMIANO

MEET OUR SPIRIT OF SAN DAMIANO AWARD RECIPIENTS

Marion Kaeser Slakey ’48 A graduate of the St. Francis Class of 1948, Marion Kaeser Slakey leads a very active and interesting life. As the Student Body President at St. Francis, Marion dated, and later married, the Student Body President of Christian Brothers High School, Thomas Slakey. They left Sacramento soon after marrying in 1952, living in nine different states and four different countries (Canada, Mexico, England and the Czech Republic) and raised four wonderful children: three sons and a daughter. Marion attended Loretto Heights College in Denver, and later finished her degree in French Literature at Cornell University while Thomas completed his Ph.D. Marion and Thomas returned to Sacramento in 1997 to provide care for her mother; that next year was the 50th anniversary of her high school graduation and Marion realized she had an opportunity to reconnect with her classmates and alma mater. That she did and continues to do, keeping her class connected and generously providing opportunities for more students to benefit from the St. Francis education she received. She loves being back in Sacramento and near St. Francis Catholic High School. Marion was greeted with a standing ovation from our students when she joined them at last year’s awards ceremony to present the alumnae scholarship. A Troubie for Life is the only way to describe Marion Kaeser Slakey ’48, and we’re all the better for her life of faith, excellence, leadership and service.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF SAN DAMIANO AWARD Recipients of the Spirit of San Damiano Award are outstanding individuals who inspire and empower St. Francis Catholic High School to fulfill its mission of “serving young women and their families who seek spiritual growth and academic excellence.” Their love for St. Francis Catholic High School and our Troubadours is evidenced by their extreme generosity of time, talent and treasure.

1) Cheers from the Chairs Be the most sophisticated table in the room by celebrating the night with a magnum of chilled, Veuve Clicquot! This selection is the choice of our Revelry co-chairs, Lisa Breslau and Kristin Stassi Venegas, as it’s one of the most compelling brand stories in the world. In 1805, at a time when women were considered minors under the responsibility of a man, a young woman is widowed at the tender age of 27. In an unprecedented move, she took over her husband’s champagne business, turning it into a global success in a matter of years by relying solely on her determination, vision and audacious spirit (she sure sounds like a Troubie!). From the perils of shipping champagne to Russia through the blockade of the Napoleonic Wars to inventing the first rosé champagne, Madame Clicquot’s story is an ever-so audacious legacy. And yet, by the time of her death in 1886, Madame Clicquot’s is known as la grande dame de la Champagne after her inventive spirit and her fondness for excellence. More than ever, her story is as relevant today as it was in the 18th and 19th century, paralleling with contemporary topics of entrepreneurship, female empowerment and women in business. This bubbly is for your table to immediately savor and enjoy tonight while toasting the young women of St. Francis! Donors: Lisa & Jonathan Breslau (Sarah ‘20 & Sophia ‘21), and Kristin ‘83 & Art Venegas (Juliana ‘19)

Accompanying this special night will be a selection of hors d’oeuvres curated by Ed Roehr, chef and owner of MAGPIE restaurant. Adan began his artistic career as an apprentice in an old marble studio in Italy. The studio was typical of most marble studios in this coastal Tuscan town – the constant chiseling of marble, the fine cover of white dust on everything, and an array of plaster sculptures accumulated over hundreds of years. Adan returned to California with eight large crates full of these antique sculptures and set out to build a studio to house them. Using reclaimed and salvaged material he took an old 1910 barn located in the historic center of midtown Sacramento and transformed it into his main studio. Your party of 10 will enjoy art, wine and food in this unique Italian setting with these larger than life personalities on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 from 6:00-8:00pm. Fund-a-Vision: empowered, Nurtured, Transformed “I think the best role models for women are people who are fruitfully and confidently themselves, who bring light into the world.” —Meryl Streep Giving to this year’s Fund-a-Vision means you are empowering the next generation of smart leaders, creative thinkers and global citizens. Every gift has a direct impact on our students, empowering them with the tools they need to become the leaders and givers of tomorrow. Every young woman deserves the opportunity of a St. Francis education. Help us fulfill our mission by providing the financial assistance that ensures a St. Francis education is accessible to all who desire a holistic education based on faith, excellence, leadership and service. More than any other factor, the availability of tuition assistance profoundly influences students’ and their families’ decisions about which school to attend. We work to build a comprehensive financial assistance program that ensures a St. Francis education is accessible to all who desire a Catholic education based on faith, excellence, leadership and service. Need-based tuition assistance perpetuates our distinguished history of providing support for students from middle and lower-income families. A St. Francis education is too important and too valuable to be available only to those who have the means to attend. Today’s Troubies Share What a St. Francis Education Means to Them The robust learning environment encountered by Troubies at St. Francis Catholic High School is best told in their own words: “At St. Francis you can be who you are and say exactly what you think and feel. That’s what prepares you for the real world.” –Isabella ’19 “St. Francis is a welcoming sisterhood that helps you find your passion as well as nurtures any existing talents you have. It is a school that is dedicated to helping girls become the best version of themselves.” –Kate ’20

Half of all net proceeds from the 2019 Revelry Gala & Auction, and all money raised through the 2019 Fund-a-Vision, will go into the St. Francis Endowed Scholarship Fund.
