BE PRECISE! Pre-warm thaw bath 95°F to 98°F (35°C to 37°C). Identify canister and semen in tank before beginning.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS 1. 1/4 cc straws have less sperm compared to 1/2 cc straws. FALSE! Both straw sizes hold the same number of sperm cells, but 1/4 cc straws require less volume and extender to fill. 2. 1/4 cc straws have different thawing temperatures and times compared to 1/2 cc straws. FALSE! 1/4 cc and 1/2 cc straws have the same thawing temperature of 95°F to 98°F (35°C to 37°C) and time of 45 seconds.

Slightly remove the cane from canister using tweezers. Never fully expose the cane or canister above the neck of the tank.

BE QUICK! Simultaneously use tweezers to firmly grip the straw, remove it from cane, and place into thaw bath. Pre-warm AI gun and sheath while straw is in thaw bath. Remove straw from bath, dry completely, and load directly into AI gun.

BE GENTLE! Push straw all the way to the end of AI gun plunger.

3. 1/4 cc straws have lower conception rates compared to 1/2 cc straws. FALSE! 1/4 cc straws are proven for comparable sperm survival and conception rates to 1/2 cc straws by extensive research evidence.
