WHERE TO GO – WHAT TO SEE NØRREBRO
Nørrebro is Copenhagen’s multicultural hotspot full of cute niche shops, fun secondhand stores and cosy cafés and restaurants of any kind at all price levels – from your local ethnic to a Michelin star. If you ever crave a shawarma, Nørrebro is the place to go.
Nørrebro also has a vibrant night life with trendy wine bars and eclectic dive bars packed with people on the weekends.
Sankt Hans Torv buzzes with life – especially in the summer – as restaurants move their tables and chairs out onto the square, creating a lively atmosphere.
The streets of Elmegade, Blågårdsgade and Jægersborggade are great for shopping and host a wealth of interesting shops. If you are into antiques, Ravnsborggade is worth a visit, and it is also lined with cafés, but if you are looking to give some old clothes new life, check out Elmegade for some fun vintage shops.
Nørrebro is also home to an amazing historic cemetery where famous writers, including H.C. Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard are buried. Look for the characteristic, big yellow wall surrounding the Assistens Cemetery and head inside for a stroll. During the summer, locals tan amongst graveyards and tombstones.
In the 1760s Nørrebro was mostly fields and farmland. However, in the 1800s it was a popular place to live for well-off families, and in the 1990s it became a working-class neighbourhood.
