Which mower is the right one for you? 1. How big is your lawn? To find the perfect lawn mower for your garden, the following tips will quickly help you decide which models will suit your purpose. The first major consideration is the size of the lawn you wish to mow. For example, our light and easy-to-handle lawn mower models are particularly recommended for small to medium-sized lawns of up to 500 m2, while mowers with additional equipment, self-propulsion and wider cutting widths are more suited to larger lawns of up to 1000+ m 2. You will also need to consider whether you would prefer a mower with an electric motor, petrol engine or battery power.

2. Electric motor, petrol engine or battery-powered drive? If your lawn is no larger than 500 m2 and presents few obstacles for a power cable, then electric mowers offer a light and compact alternative to petrol mowers. An electric motor is quieter and mows without exhaust emissions. The new models with battery-powered drive have a further advantage: they mow entirely cable-free. If, however, you wish to mow larger or uneven lawns, a more powerful petrol model would be the better choice. This enables you to perform more demanding tasks in a single operation, with one tank filling.

3. Grass collection or mulching? All VIKING lawn mowers (except the R Series) are equipped with a grass catcher box as standard, making them excellent grass collectors. A particularly ingenious product is the VIKING Multi-Mower™. With these machines, the grass is cut in small steps by specially shaped multi-blades and shredded into fine particles in the housing. With the grass catcher box attached, the Multi-Mower™ works as a grass collector. If the mulch insert is used without the grass catcher box, the mower housing is closed and the finely cut grass falls back onto the lawn – eliminating the need to dispose of the clippings. In addition to the Multi-Mowers™, VIKING also offers pure mulching mowers as well as side discharge and high grass mowers (see Special R Series mowers – pages 42–45).

Well-tended lawn with VIKING. Providing useful tips for maintaining your garden. and is available free from your VIKING specialist dealer.

Mulching or green fertilisation Lawns have to satisfy a wide range of needs. Depending on their use for example, a distinction is made between utility and ornamental lawns. One thing however, is common to all types of lawn: Regular mulching makes the turf more dense and provides the lawn with natural nutrients as the clippings remain on the lawn. It is important however, that the quantity of clippings is not excessive, and that those clippings are finely shredded and evenly spread, as is the case with lawn mowers featuring the mulching function.

Achieving a beautiful and hard-wearing lawn. Mowing: Regular mowing makes a lawn dense and attractive. The grasses form new side shoots and weeds are suppressed. The optimal cutting height is between 3.5 and 5cm in most countries. Watering: Better to water less often and for a lengthy period than more often but briefly. You can test whether the quantity of water is sufficient using a spade: cut a sod of around 15cm depth and check the water has penetrated that depth. Fertilising: At the beginning of the growth period in around mid-March your lawn needs a large amount of nutrients. Good fertilisers contain nitrogen, potash, phosphate and magnesium in well-balanced proportions. Mulching: Grass itself is an excellent fertiliser. With regular cutting using a mulching mower, the clippings remain on the lawn where they decompose and the nitrogen they contain is rapidly mineralised. Autumn leaves: Must be removed! Not just for aesthetic purposes, but so that the lawn does not “suffocate” due to a lack of air and light. During the winter, grass should not exceed the normal cutting height of about 4 cm.

The new 3 Series lawn mowers are ideal for compact lawns. With their lightweight and compact design, they offer optimum manoeuvrability, can access tight areas and do so quietly and without exhaust emissions thanks to their electric motors. Innovative extra comfort is provided by the model with batterypowered drive, as it can move completely freely throughout the garden, independent of power socket and cable.

Achieving an even cut with little effort: The 3 Series electric lawn mower. The new 3 Series with electric motor is extremely manoeuvrable and easy to steer. With a cutting width of 37 centimetres (14.5 inches), it is suitable for mowing lawns up to approx. 500 m2 and can also cope with inaccessible areas. Developed for the highest demands: The 6 Series, for perfect lawn care. All models feature ReadyStart, an easy start system which enables the engine to start up at the first pull of the starter cable. The MB 650 VR and MB 655 VR are rear roller models, which means they are equipped with a lawn roller that leaves a traditional stripe finish for the lawn. Using a mulching mower not only cuts down on your maintenance, but will also make your grass greener. The true benefits of mulching may require more frequent cutting, but this will stimulate growth and encourage thickness. By mulching, you will create a healthier lawn fed by the nutrients you may otherwise throw away.

The grass is cut at different heights by the specially shaped mulching blade and is shredded into fine particles in the housing. These are then distributed almost invisibly into the turf.

Ride-on mower guide

Which ride-on is the right one for you? 1. How large is the lawn you would like to mow? The T5 and T6 Series offer different cutting width and mowing performance for large lawns. New to the range is the manoeuvrable R4 Series ride-on mower for lawns up to approx. 4000 m2(approx. an acre). The following tips will quickly help you decide which models are the most suitable for you.

2. What is the terrain like? If your lawn contains numerous bushes and trees and if the spacing between beds is tight, we recommend the smaller cutting widths of the R4 and T5 Series. Larger lawns on which speed, maximum cutting performance or an elegant striped pattern are required, will be more suited to our T6 Series lawn tractors.

3. What equipment do you require? All models feature single-pedal self-propulsion and an innovative forward/reverse drive lever, combined with a particularly smooth-shifting hydrostatic gearbox. Some of the models – including the new R4 Series, for example – are additionally equipped with an electromagnetic clutch for activating the mowing deck. As well as a superior cutting performance, the T6 Series also offers exclusive accessory options such as the unique electrically adjustable AKF contour following system, which provides a neat cutting pattern and also creates a traditional striped finish. A VIKING lawn scarifier will ensure that you can enjoy your lawn for years to come. With its fixed metal blades, our scarifier can help give your lawn what it needs: air, light, water and nutrients for dense growth and a rich green colour. Weeds, moss, old clippings and widespread thatch are removed from the grass when scarifying. This is a good way to prevent waterlogging and improves the absorption of air and nutrients over the long term.

Refresh your lawn: Scarifier with petrol engine. The VIKING lawn scarifier will remove moss, thatch and weeds. As a result, the ground gets more air and the roots are better supplied with water and nutrients. The working depth of the seven blades can accurately be adjusted using the rotary control and the machine is easy to manoeuvre with its easy running wheels. The foldable handlebar also allows the lawn scarifier to be easily cleaned and stored without taking up much space. A 50 litre volume catcher bag (AFK 050) is available as an accessory.

With the newly developed VIKING tillers, soil cultivation has been made significantly easier and faster. These powerful machines reduce your exertion, are easy to handle and ensure highly efficient working â&#x20AC;&#x201C; thanks to a sturdy construction, robust components and precisely matched work tools. Many details of the new machines have been further improved and thoroughly tested in extensive trials. The new VIKING tillers.

Tillers 45 cm

Ideal for working in confined areas. The HB 445 with a forward gear and the HB 445 R with an additional reverse gear are extremely easy to manoeuvre thanks to their slim and compact design. New anti-vibration elements protect your muscles and joints. The equipment and accessories allow flexible use under a wide variety of operating conditions. The working width, for example, can be reduced from 45 cm to 25 cm, or extended to 60 cm.

Tillers 85 cm

Powerful for all larger areas. With a working width of 85 cm, even entire fields can be covered at considerable speed. This is due in part to the extremely powerful Kohler Courage overhead-valve engine. In more confined areas, the working width can be reduced to 60 cm. Extensive accessories such as a ridger and additional weights make the HB 585 particularly versatile.
