GOLF A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GOLF Sean McGaughey, PGA Director of Golf May was a wonderful month filled with near perfect weather. It was exciting see the course green up day after day, and thanks to Ryan and Josh they are in amazing shape. If you haven’t had a chance to play lately please come see us and experience golf at its best! Last month kicked off with our Couples Nine & Dine at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club. We had a smaller field this time, but we couldn’t have asked for better weather. A big congratulations to Carrie & William Shoaf and David Goble & Peggy Geppert for winning our May event! If you’re looking to meet some of our lovely couples at the Clubs, don’t forget to sign up for our June 14th Couples Nine & Dine at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club. I also hosted a clinic on pitching the golf ball. The clinic covered basic setup and foundation so that everyone can hit more greens from those tricky midrange shots. Thank you all very much for attending. If you are struggling and need any work around the greens, please visit with me on June 15th for a chipping clinic. We tried something new at the Clubs in May and it turned out to be a huge hit! In accordance with the PGA Championship we had our own “Pick Your Pro” skins game. Players were able to select any player from the PGA Championship and combine their net score with the Pro’s Friday total. To add to the fun we also ran a small skins game for those eager to bet! In the end Mr. Seaborn Grist combined his score with Brooks Koepka to take home the win. Congratulations Mr. Grist! Please make sure to join us June 15th for our U.S. Open Pick Your Pro. As always, I hope you all have a wonderful summer and make sure to join us for some of our upcoming events. The Clubs by JOE Club Championship is June 7th and 8th. And for those parents looking to have their children pick up the game, please don’t miss our July Kids Camp held at Origins Golf Club. We finished the month with our annual Sharks & Stripes tournament. We had 13 teams participate in this years event and paid out our top 4 net teams. Congratulations to the winning team of Wayne Whittaker, Hayes Gibson, Grayson Gibson & John Michael O’Toole for posting a fantastic score of 53.7. Our two closest to the pin contests were won by Greg Sheldon on #2 and Wayne Whittaker on #14, nice shots! Thank you to everyone participated in this event and we look forward to seeing you next year.

GOLF A MESSAGE FROM YOUR SUPERINTENDENTS Josh Parker Superintendent, Shark’s Tooth Golf Club It seems like it took forever to get to warmer temperatures, but we have them now! And we unfortunately also welcome the yellow flies! The golf course will have pine straw installed again June 4-6. June will also bring about a greens aerification Tuesday, June 11. This will be a 3/8” hollow tine punch. We have installed a couple pallets of Tif-Tuf Bermuda grass sod on #13 to see how it fares with the shaded areas we are dealing with there. Tif-Tuf is a newer variety of Bermuda released from the University of Georgia. Time will tell how well it performs for us. It shows some early promise. I would like to remind everyone to please repair their ball marks and stay on the cart paths around the tee and green complexes. These areas get worn down quickly and are hard to recover. Everyone cooperation is appreciated. Good luck to everyone that is playing in the Club Championship!

Ryan Dykes Superintendent, Camp Creek Golf Club The grass growing season is upon us here at Camp Creek Golf Club. You will begin to notice an increase in mower sightings in the coming months. With the growing season comes aerification season. We will aerify greens June 24th this month. We will be using 3/8” hollow tines to remove some organic matter from our upper soil profile and replace it with sand to help with percolation rate, compaction, improved fertilizer uptake and use, and better air exchange. Aerification is a necessary evil that we must do to be able to provide healthy greens year long. We are also planning to aerify tees this month. This should not affect play. We want to do this so that we can provide as healthy teeing surface as we can. As I write this we are in a bit of a drought window and you are probably noticing some areas of the course that appear hot and dry. We are monitoring these areas and watering them individually as needed. We will be implementing hand-watering on the greens to help maintain the greens. If you see us on the green please do not hit into us. We will get out of your way as soon as we can. If you have been out on the course in the past month, you may have noticed our recent project on #17. This area has been an issue and we took some steps to see if we could remedy the constantly saturated area by raising the drain and adding some fill dirt along with some new sod. We used two different types of sod to see which one we like better. The left side is Tif-Tuf Bermuda grass and the right side is Celebration Bermuda grass. We expect this will solve the pond in the fairway issue. We have also re-sodded the pro tees on 6 and 7 in an effort to provide the long hitters with good tee boxes. We look forward to seeing you on the course.

A MESSAGE FROM CHEF DAN, WATERSOUND BEACH CLUB Welcome to Summer! It was a busy spring break and now we have quickly transitioned into our summer season. WaterSound Beach Club is excited to welcome several new associates to greet and serve our Members this year. We have introduced many new offerings and services that are fast becoming favorites of our Members and their guests. We were proud to introduce Costa Chica to you all over the Memorial Day Weekend. We opened softly with a limited menu that was very well received. Many of our Members have commented on how wonderful the new facility looks and feels. At the top of most everyone’s list was how much they enjoyed the constant breeze and how cool it felt on the veranda even in the heat of the day. The new lounge furniture was selected with comfort in mind and has proven to be the perfect way to relax and enjoy an afternoon by the beach. Costa Chica will be expanding to the full menu over the coming weeks in preparation for the 4th of July weekend. Our full menu will feature more taco selections, bowls, burritos and an expanded kids’ menu for our “Little Surfers.” Personally, as a fan of anything made of ice cream, I am beyond excited to announce our handmade custom ice cream sandwiches. You can choose your cookies, gelato and toppings to create your own personal ice cream sandwich made right in front of you. You can be here every day during the summer and never eat the same one twice! Looking forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Barry Webb Director of Tennis

As the weather begins to heat up so does the action on the courts! We are ready for summer with opportunities offered for all ages to get involved with tennis. Here is an overview of each specific program conducted weekly at WaterSound Beach Club. Adult Doubles Drills combines instruction with fast-paced drills. Shot selection and team positioning are learned for defensive and attacking situations in doubles. Live ball point play ends each session of this program. Adult Round Robin is a mixed-up doubles mini tournament. There is no need to enter with a partner, as partners rotate each round, making it a great way to meet other players. Join us on the courts for fun and social match play. Junior Clinic (6-8 yrs) offers a wonderful introduction to tennis, focused on hand-eye coordination and the basic strokes of the game. Junior Clinic (9-12 yrs) is geared for beginner to intermediate players. Each stroke is broken down into easy steps for quick success. Competitive drills and games add to the fun and excitement. Junior Clinic (13 & up) is created for intermediate to high-school level players, this program is designed to develop the tools needed to achieve a more advanced level of play, including footwork, spins, tactics and strategies. Point play and competitive games help to reinforce each skill. Private, semi-private and group lessons are also available. Please contact me to arrange your day and time. I look forward to seeing you on the courts!
