St. John’s is grateful to those benefactors who have contributed to the school’s endowment funds. Endowed funds provide a permanent source of income to the school. In order for the school to continue providing a high-quality college preparatory education, St. John’s endowment must continue to grow.

George and Catherine Aydinian Scholarship Fund

Established in 2011 with love and gratitude to our parents for their generosity and dedication, by sons Gene ’68 and John ’71.

Beckwith Scholarship Fund

Benilde Program Operational Fund

Established in 2008 to assist with the additional costs of the Benilde Program.

James J. Brogan ’70 Scholarship Fund

Established by the Brogan family in 2012. This fund is created in loving memory of James Brogan, a graduate and former teacher at St. John’s, by his family.

Bonnie Bush Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in 2019 to honor the memory of Bonnie Bush, director of student accounts at St. John’s. Beloved mother of Logan ’12 and Bianca ’13 and wife of Lyle, one-time president of the Men of St. John’s, Bonnie inspired the SJC community through her kindness and gentle spirit. As the director of student accounts, she served St. John’s families with patience and understanding. This endowed scholarship will provide support to deserving students in need.

Established in 2007 by James C. Conley ’65. This scholarship provides support to deserving students.

Bro. Timothy Dean Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Bro. Timothy Dean, FSC. The core of this scholarship was based on contributions from the Class of 1971.

Mary Ellen Degnan-Burke Scholarship Fund

Established in 2007 through a donation from the Burke Family. This scholarship is given with preference to those students from singleparent families.

Donatelli Scholarship Fund

Established by Louis T. Donatelli ’52 and Ann Kirlin Donatelli in memory of Louis A. Donatelli and Elsie A. Donatelli, loving parents of Louis T. Donatelli.

Branson Ferry ’55 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2003 by former students in honor of Mr. Ferry, alumnus, devoted teacher and coach of 35 years at St. John’s. This is an academic scholarship awarded to students with exceptional math skills.

Sgt. Maj. Vincent L. Fisher Scholarship Fund

Established in 2011 by CSM Vincent Fisher’s former students in honor of his many years of service to the students and families of the St. John’s community. This annual award goes to a member of the Cadet Corps who also contributes to the school through extracurricular activities.

James and Kathryn FitzPatrick, Sr. Scholarship Fund

Established in 2005 by a grateful friend in appreciation and memory of two very special people, James and Kathryn FitzPatrick, parents of James ’55, Thomas ’57, Dorothy, Kathleen and Susan.

David Flynn Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 2007 by a grateful friend in appreciation and memory of a special person, David Flynn, son of John T. Flynn ’61.

The Jeff and Rebecca Fuge Scholarship was established for the benefit of incoming ninth-grade students from Catholic feeder schools with older siblings already attending St. John’s.

James C. Gaffney ’52 Scholarship Fund

The friends and family of James C. Gaffney ’52 established this fund in 2010 to aid families in need of tuition assistance. The fund is created in loving memory of James Gaffney ’52, brother of Richard ’53, Thomas ’56, Leo ’58, Joseph ’63, John ’63 and David ’63 and father of James (Chris) ’81 and Mike ’83, for his many years of unceasing loyalty and dedication to St. John’s and its mission. For many years, their father, Dr. Leo B. Gaffney, served as team physician and cared for the Christian Brothers at St. John’s.

Joe Gallagher ’39 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2008 through a generous gift by Earl Griffin ’39 in honor of Joe Gallagher ’39, former teacher and coach at St. John’s.

Marge Gasser Memorial Award

This fund was established in 1998 by the Gasser Family in honor of Marge, former Mothers’ Club president and mother of four St. John’s graduates: Timothy ’74, Mark ’75, Jeffrey ’79 and Jonathan ’80. This annual award honors an individual who is an excellent educator and has shown dedicated service to St. John’s and its students. St. John’s Mothers’ Club presents the award.

Established in 2010 in honor of Bro. Tom’s 16 years of outstanding service as president of St. John’s for the purpose of providing financial assistance to St. John’s students who show exemplary leadership skills.

Giaquinta Fund for the Performing Arts

Sgt. Maj. Michael Hackett Scholarship Fund

Established in 2008 by the Class of 1955 in honor of Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Hackett in recognition of the spirit and values he instilled in his students during the nearly four decades that he was the pivotal force in the Cadet Corps program at St. John’s.

Archbishop Philip M. Hannan ’31 Endowed Scholarship Fund

Established in 2005 by the St. John’s community in grateful appreciation for the immeasurable support and dedication of Archbishop Hannan to the students of St. John’s. This endowed fund provides scholarship support for deserving students.

John and Mary-Angela Harper Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 1990 by his wife, Dr. MaryAngela Harper, and their three sons, John III ’69, Michael ’71 and Dennis ’75, in memory of John Harper, Jr.

Established in 2007 by Mr. and Mrs. John Hassett ’70 to provide scholarship support for deserving students.

James “Bubba” Healy Scholarship Fund

Established by the Class of ’55 in memory of their classmate.

Charles T. and Helen D. Hellmuth Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Charles T. Hellmuth. Charlie was a 1944 St. John’s graduate and very proud of his association with the school. The scholarship is in remembrance of the solid education and ethical principles instilled in him by the Christian Brothers during his formative years. Charlie used his St. John’s experience as a stepping stone, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and then starting a successful insurance and employee benefits business. It was Charlie’s wish that this fund provide future students the same opportunity that he received to propel them to success in college and the rest of their lives.

Bro. Dominic Luke Endowment Fund

The Bro. Dominic Luke Endowment Fund is designated for faculty enrichment and was established in 1989.

Jerry and Rose Maiatico Scholarship Fund

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Jerry and Rose Maiatico through the kindness of the Maiatico Family.

CSM John W. McConnell Scholarship Fund

Established at the 2015 Cadet Corps Centennial in honor of CSM John W. McConnell in recognition of his many years of devoted service to St. John’s. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Cadet Corps rising senior who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and service to the Cadet Corps program and St. John’s community.

Established in 1999 by Philip and Marion Mudd.

Clifford L. Patterson, Jr. Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a deserving sophomore who has demonstrated leadership in a team sport, with preference given to a member of the Cadet Corps. The recipient will maintain honor grades and reflect the Lasallian ethos of humility in service to others.

John T. Peak ’63 Scholarship Fund

The John T. Peak Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate of the Christian Brothers’ San Miguel Middle School of Washington, DC, and it will be renewed to that student each year as long as the student attends St. John’s and is recommended by the Counseling Department.

Pierce Family Scholarship

Established by Albert C. ’62 and Mary Ann Pierce in honor of his late parents, CWO and Mrs. Albert C. Pierce, USMC (Ret.). This academic scholarship is given with preference to students who have lost a parent while attending St. John’s and perpetuates the work of the Brothers, who allowed Al to finish his St. John’s education on scholarship after the passing of his father.

The Quinn Family Scholarship Fund

Established in 1988 in honor of John A. Quinn, Sr. ’07 and Vivian E. Quinn and their heirs, by George J. Quinn ’43, alumnus and former trustee of St. John’s.

Thomas and Ann Rasmussen Scholarship Fund

Established by Thomas Rasmussen ’63 on the occasion of his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary for students in need.

Mr. and Mrs. George Reese ’87 Scholarship Fund

Bill and Betty Scaggs Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund is named in honor of Bill ’54 and Betty Scaggs and their longstanding support of the St. John’s community and its students.

Dr. C. Francis Scalessa Scholarship Fund

Established in 1984 by alumni in honor of Dr. C. Francis Scalessa, who gave more than 15 years of service to St. John’s as a team physician. Each year, alumni organize the Doc Scalessa Golf Tournament to raise money for this scholarship.

Simmons Alumni Fellows Fund

Established in March 2012 by Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Simmons, parents of Tucker Simmons ’11. This endowment provides a stipend to two members of each class, chosen prior to graduation, to serve as Alumni

Fellows for five years. They are charged with creating multiple events each year to encourage their class ties through their fifth reunion.

SJC Christian Brothers Community Scholarship Fund

Established by the Brothers for the benefit of students and faculty.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Christopher Smith ’70 Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in 2008 by Mr. and Mrs. W. Christopher Smith ’70 to provide opportunity for deserving students.

Joseph F. Sorge, Jr. ’64 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2020 through a generous gift by Joe Sorge ’64, Regimental Band drum major. This scholarship is awarded to a member of the Regimental Band who excels in the classroom.

Stephen Traficanti Scholarship Fund

Established in 2000 by Raul J. Fernandez, Jr. ’84 in memory of Stephen Traficanti ’85.

Nino Vaghi Scholarship Fund

John B. Varney ’19 Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 2020 in memory of John Varney ’19 by his parents, family members and friends. This scholarship provides financial assistance for a current student who demonstrates excellence in the classroom and participates in co-curricular activities. “Don’t forget to laugh.”

Carl M. Waclawik Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2017 by the Waclawik family in memory of Carl Waclawik ’10, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a current member of the Cadet Corps who participates in co-curricular activities and demonstrates excellence in the classroom.

Doonie Waldron Memorial Fund

Established in 2008 to honor the memory of Doonie Waldron ’49, who served the St. John’s community as a teacher and coach for more than 30 years.

James Walton Scholarship Fund

Established by the Class of ’85 in memory of their classmate, who served as their cadet colonel and then served the nation.

Mrs. Frances Amato Willard Scholarship Fund

Frances A. Willard, mother of William F. Willard, Sr. ’73 and James M. Willard ’75; sister of Joseph F. Amato, Jr. ’54 and Robert F. Amato ’49; and grandmother of William F. Willard, Jr. ’04 and Matthew F. Willard ’09, established this scholarship in 2007 to provide support for deserving students.
