JUNIOR VARSITY COACHES
BRANDON REMALIA
HEAD JV COACH / SIXTH SEASON
Brandon Remalia has been with the Cadets since 2014 in various capacities. Previously, he served as an assistant coach for the junior varsity team and the head coach for the freshman/ sophomore team. In 2016, he led the freshman/sophomore team to a 17-0-1 record. He is a 2010 graduate of North Point High School, where he was selected to the All-Conference and All-County teams his senior year. He continued his career at the College of Southern Maryland for two years and was selected to the All-Region team. Remalia then moved on to Frostburg State, where he was a two-year starter and the Dave Sanford Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Remalia has also been a head coach with the Cadets Baseball organization.
MIKE HIGGINBOTHAM
ASSISTANT JV COACH / SECOND SEASON Mike Higginbotham begins his second season in the scarlet and grey and brings a wealth of experience. He is a graduate of Archbishop Carrol High School and played collegiately at Bowie State University. Following college, Higginbotham entered the United States Army where he played for a year in Germany. For the last 20 years, he has coached at Bishop McNamara and DeMatha. He has been married to Anna for 34 years, and they have two children and five grandchildren.
KORY SMIGOCKI
ASSISTANT JV COACH / SECOND SEASON
Kory Smigocki begins his second year of coaching at St. John’s. He served as an assistant coach for the Gaithersburg Giants in the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League from 2013 to 2019. He has also spent time with Good Counsel High School, Gaithersburg High School and Watkins Mill High School, serving as a both a varsity and junior varsity assistant, working primarily with infielders.
He graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 2009, where he was a threeyear varsity starter as a middle infielder and pitcher. He earned various honors such as first team All-Gazette, first team All-County, All-Met honorable mention and represented Gaithersburg High School in the 2009 Brooks Robinson All-Star Game at Camden Yards. Smigocki earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Catholic University of America in 2013, where he doubled as a middle infielder and pitcher. He was named senior captain in 2013 and helped the Cardinals reach their first ever NCAA tournament after winning the Landmark Conference in 2011.
Smigocki earned his master’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park. A certified public accountant, he works as a senior associate in transaction advisory for Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP in Tysons, VA.
WALT ALBEE
LOWER LEVEL PITCHING COORDINATOR FOURTH SEASON
Walt Albee enters his fourth season with the Cadets. As head varsity pitching coach during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he led the pitching staff to a 1.32 ERA and a 3.58 to 1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and back-to-back WCAC championships. Over the past two years, he mentored ten pitchers who moved on to college baseball, including seven to the Division 1 level. Albee was a three-year letter winner as an outfielder and pitcher at the Maret School, and he helped lead his team to three consecutive mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference titles from 2007-2009. Albee was named to the All-District first team in 2009 and All-Conference teams in baseball three times (2007-2009) and football twice (2007-2008). He went on to play at Brown University for three seasons (2010-2012), despite several major injuries. In 2014, Albee coached the pitchers at Providence Country Day School in Providence, RI. Since moving back to DC, he has coached several travel teams and has worked with pitchers throughout the DC area. He lives in Washington, DC.
