This is where you’ll find the younger of St. John’s College’s two campuses, built right into the Rocky Mountains. Gazing out on a Santa Fe sunset or sunrise from one of our many balconies is an ideal setting to contemplate the timeless questions of the great thinkers you’ll be reading every day. The fragrant pines and peaceful lull of the hilly campus create a haven for deep thought and bonding with new friends. When you’re here, you are surrounded by nature and able to enjoy the natural beauty without needing to leave campus. You and your 400 or so classmates will build community through a wide range of clubs and extracurriculars — from snowboarding to mock trial, from Amnesty International to archery, from tai chi to t able tennis. Plus, almost the whole student body lives on campus, so friendships blossom from class to dorm life to meals in the dining hall. These scenic lands are rich with the history of their original stewards: the Jicarilla Apache, Pueblo, and Jumanos Peoples. You can head to the Atalaya trailhead right off campus, or head further afield to the Santa Fe Ski Basin or places for water sports, rock climbing, and mountain biking. Even if roughing it isn’t your thing, you can hop in a car with a few friends and hit the open road. Resting in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Santa Fe is the highest-altitude city in America. A prime destination for skiers and boarders, hikers and backpackers, mountain bikers and climbers, the city sits at 7,000 feet — and delivers 5,000 feet of elevation gain between downtown and the Santa Fe ski basin, which towers over Santa Fe at a rarified 12,000 feet. Route 66, known as the Mother Road, was one of the first highways in America and ran just south of Santa Fe. Most buildings on our campus feature balconies. This includes dormitories — 85 percent have at least one balcony that students can access. As the artistic capital of the Southwest, Santa Fe is known for its Spanish colonial heritage and Native American culture, its massive arts market and robust film sector, its pioneering role in science and alternative medicine, and its celebrated food culture. The art scene is expansive, with more than 200 art galleries throughout the city.
