elcome to St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth 2017 Open Gardens booklet. This year, you are invited to explore 23 gardens across Devon and Cornwall. With new gardens, old favourites and fascinating village walkabouts, this diverse selection of beautiful gardens has been chosen to inspire and delight. Many are not normally open to the public and so offer a unique insight into garden planning and planting schemes. This is an enjoyable and inspiring way for our supporters to raise vital funds for our hospice. I hope you will tell your family and friends about the scheme and encourage them to support us throughout the summer of 2017. Our garden community continues to grow with some very experienced garden owners joining our scheme which is now in its 8th year. I would like to highlight Gnaton Hall which will be opening for Mothering Sunday 26 March this year – a perfect afternoon treat for everyone! Also the wonderfully impressive Flete House estate will be opening exclusively for our visitors on Sunday 2 July with improved access to parking. We also have some gardens opening by appointment again this year. Our garden owners will be happy to talk to you in person about their projects, planting schemes and the history of how they have developed their gardens. Simply call them to arrange your visit.

St Luke’s is a registered charity that relies heavily on charitable giving. St Luke’s provides free specialist palliative care for more than 3,200 patients and their families every year at home, at Derriford or at our specialist Unit at Turnchapel. Government funding is limited so we must raise over £4 million each year. We try to offer refreshments and plant sales at all of our gardens and ask you to support our Open Garden annual raffle which has some great prizes again this year. If you have any questions regarding this year’s garden dates or are unsure about directions or accessibility to the gardens please call me on 01752 964426 or email wmarshall@stlukes-hospice.org.uk To all garden owners and visitors we would like to say a big thank you for making this scheme so popular and successful. We couldn’t continue without your support.
