Parish Profile Meetings June 1 & 15 8:30a.m. | Gish Hall
A message from the Senior Warden Tom McGehee, Senior Warden
I
want to give you a quick update on our search for a new Rector. Bill Smith and Dina Aboul-Saad are the Co-Chairs of the Search Committee and are in the process of choosing 12 members. Thank you to those of you who submitted names or have offered to serve on the Search Committee. Given the size of the parish and the small number of members to be selected for the committee, it has been a very difficult decision. The next major steps in the search process will occur on June 1 and June 15, when we will begin work on the parish profile. This profile will identify both the strengths and weaknesses in our parish. The meetings are on Saturday mornings at 8:30 and will be led by The Rev. Joann Saylors, the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas’ Director of Deployment and Congregational Development. Participants will address and discuss concerns and goals for St. Mark’s. Continental breakfast and child care will be offered. Parishioners are requested to RSVP to only ONE session by calling Elaine Enloe at the church. For those that cannot make either session, there will be a survey available online later this summer.

The work in these meetings will be very important in the search for a new Rector. We want to provide a complete and accurate assessment of the church’s strengths as well as the areas that will need more work in the coming years. This information, as well as the history of our church, photos, ministry summaries, financial information, etc. will be compiled into a brochure made available to possible candidates. A secondary but equally important use of this information will be for the Vestry’s future planning. The Vestry believes that this profile work will be very informative and will become a roadmap for the future direction of our parish. We value the input of the parishioners of this parish and look forward to seeing you at one of the sessions. If you have any questions, call the parish office at 210-226-2426 or email me at tommcgehee@yahoo.com Parishioners are requested to RSVP to only ONE session by calling Elaine Enloe at 210-226-2426 or by emailing her at eenloe@stmarks-sa.org. You may also register at www.stmarkssa.org. Please include which of the meetings you will attend (June 1st or June 15th) and whether childcare will be required.

race and Peace to you, the good people who are St. Marks Episcopal Church, San Antonio. It is with joy and anticipation that we greet you from Austin, Texas. We have heard of your faith and good works through the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord who has begun a good work in you will continue this work during your search for the person who is being prepared to be your next Rector. Carol and I are delighted to be in your midst during this time of transition and renewal. Our pace and rhythm will differ from your recent clergy. I have been flunking retirement for the past five years and loving it. Carol is ready to begin full-time parish ministry and brings many gifts with her enthusiasm and joy. We are blessed to be with you during this special time. You have been lovingly served by Mike and Paula Chalk. We were classmates at the Virginia Seminary and know we are following very loving persons. I want to say a couple of things about how Ned Bowersox and Carol Morehead will be with you for the next few months. Summertime is a time of relaxing and being refreshed in the Lord. Our families and special places are used by God to refresh us. It is a work of the Holy Spirit and we need to relax and look around us to discover again God’s presence in this place and in our lives. The Adult Formation hour on Sunday will be a time for us to share some of our stories as people in formation by the Holy Spirit. Our hearts and minds are being challenged by grace. We will discover some new and some old things pushing against our imaginations. Not to worry, these times are gifts and we will grow together! Thank you for calling us to be with you. Let us rest in the Lord and enjoy His creation. Faithfully, The Rev. Ned F. Bowersox The Rev. Carol Morehead

Ministry Spotlight Outreach Grant Committee Results By Cathy Murphy Brumlik, Outreach Chair
I
t has been my privilege to serve as chair of this wonderful committee. It is invigorating, exciting work, and brings true stewardship to life. Our committee worked beautifully together, and I feel that we have been guided to make the best possible decisions for our community. As you know, our committee was charged with the distribution of a generous $86,000 dollars. Faced with an emergent crisis in our Episcopalian Community, we immediately committed $5000 to the cause of aiding the parish whose church had burned. The following chart depicts our distribution of the remaining $81,000. We submit it respectfully in the hopes that our contributions can do Christ’s work in our community effectively.

YOUTH NEWS
Farewell to our senior class St. Mark’s class of 2013 By Todd Allison, Erin Hughes & the class of 2013 It was a great honor to recognize members of the Senior Class of the St. Mark’s Youth Group on Sunday, May 5. One unique and distinguishing characteristic of being a downtown church is that we are blessed to draw members from a variety of neighborhoods and schools all of whom offer their own talents and passion to their schools, communities, and to the St. Mark’s Parish. This year’s group of seniors is no exception. The students have accomplished and participated in many significant things during their years in high school that they, and we, should be incredibly proud of. From National Honor Society to Team Captains and Club Presidents these young men and women have served their schools and communities well. They have also been a significant part of our community life here at St. Mark’s for many years. With many of them participating in the Boy and Girl Choir, Youth Choir, Youth Group, Altar Guild and Acolytes. In fact this year St. Mark’s proudly sends off some of the most experienced and dedicated acolytes in Catherine Bousquet, Lewis Clements, Cory Howard, Christina Howe, Sterling Schrader, Elisabeth Uhl and Patrick Wickham. As these students journey into the next chapter of their lives we thank them for the participation, dedication and service and we wish each of them the very best in their future endeavors and may God continue to bless them in all that they do. want to tell you a bit about the second floor. At around 9:45 on Sunday mornings, the folks who have come to the 9:00 service are still worshipping. Those who are coming at 11:15 probably aren’t quite here yet. But the 2nd floor has already sprung to life. Beads, stickers or paper scraps may still adorn the floor of the Jerusalem chapel. Teachers are arriving, lights are popping on. They are reading over their lesson plan one more time. They are making sure all of the materials they need are in place. And they’re doing this so that you, and more importantly our children can be fed spiritually through Christian formation.

This gift of their time deserves recognition. I hope that when you see them in the hallway at St. Mark’s, you will consider thanking them in person. But even if you don’t find yourself with that opportunity, please take a moment just to read their names. I have written them here with solemnity and sincere gratitude in my heart. This church would not be the same without their service.
