ADVANCED MATHEMATICS (Full year course – 2 units. If you choose this course you must choose it for both Semester 1 and Semester 2). This course is aimed at Mathematics students who are considering studying higher levels of Mathematics (especially the Mathematics Methods pathway) in Senior years. Students who are considering selecting 10 Maths Methods in Year 10 should select this course in Year 9. The elective is taken along with Year 9 Mathematics and together they are run as a single course. To be successful in this course you need to: • have strong mathematical skills • be a motivated and enthusiastic learner with a resilient attitude • have a positive approach to being challenged. In this course students will have the opportunity to consolidate and extend their mathematical knowledge and understanding of Australian Curriculum content from both Years 9 and 10. Higher level concepts and problem solving strategies will also be explored. Students will also undertake investigations and modelling to enhance their understanding of real-world mathematics.
