The Ins and Outs of Foal Registration
may be approved for breeding on request without inspection/licensing by the AHS, provided that such stallions: 1) have a pedigree acceptable to the AHS and the HV, and 2) already be licensed by a breeding society whose program is approved by the AHS and the HV.
A stallion shall be deemed to have worldclass performance if he appears in the year-end rankings of the WBFSH: • within the top 100 showjumping stallions, • within the top 50 dressage stallions, or • within the top 25 eventing stallions. Stallions meeting all of these criteria shall be deemed approved for breeding upon approval from the AHS and the HV. Upon payment of a 1b sire fee, offspring by such stallions and out of mares approved by the AHS and the HV shall be eligible for registration, provided all other requirements are met.

Breeders will be more competitive in the market place making use of excellent stallions from other breeds that are proven either through their own performance, as based upon WBFSH rankings, or top-class progeny results, again based upon WBFSH year-end rankings.
If you have any questions about a proposed breeding, contact the AHS office.
Embryo Transfer The AHS recognizes embryo transfer and allows an unlimited number of foal registrations per donor mare provided both the sire and dam are inspected and entered in the AHS studbook.

HANOVERIAN BRANDS IN THE U.S.
18
Beginning with the 2019 season, the AHS membership voted to drop the year and use only the H.
To satisfy the Hanoverian Verband’s requirement of incorporating two digits from the life number into the brand, by joint agreement between the HV’s Executive Board and the AHS Board of Directors, 2008 was the first year the AHS utilized an H-08 brand. This system was used until 2018.
In use in the U.S. from 1993 through 2007, this brand marked foals of Main Studbook and Studbook dams. In 2007, the AHS membership voted by a two-thirds margin to retire this brand and use the Hanoverian H brand.
Prior to 1993, this brand was used to mark North Americanfoaled HV Main Studbook and Studbook mares and foals. It is now used in Germany accompanied by the sixth and seventh digits of the horse’s Universal Equine Life Number (UELN).
This brand was last used in 1993 on the left hip of foals whose dams are in the AHS Main Studbook or the Studbook.
This brand was formerly used on the left hip of foals whose dams were in the Pre-Studbook.
