LOCALLY GROWN GROWN LOCALLY

Love fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts? Home-made pies? How about great drives through some of the most beautiful orchards and farmland anywhere? You’ve arrived in California’s Central Valley, also referred to as “The Greatest Garden in the World” and the “Nation’s Salad Bowl” where fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and dairy products are produced, packaged, and shipped all over the world. Stockton and San Joaquin County have a long history of great agricultural operations. Some of our top crops include: almonds, apples, cherries, tomatoes, walnuts, and wine grapes. We are also famous for our blueberries, nectarines, and peaches! We encourage you to take a drive through our countryside and stop at the small roadside farm stands. In addition to the freshest local produce you can find, many have homemade baked goods, offer wine tasting, and even make a great lunch! Learn more at SanJoaquinFarms.com. One of our favorite farm stands is The Fruit Bowl, owned and operated by the Lucchetti Family for over 70 years. Their farm market and bake shop is open April through December and provides the best fresh and local produce, fresh pies baked from scratch, nuts, jellies, jams, local honey, and olive oils. They also grow and sell over 55 varieties of peaches throughout the year. Find them at 8767 E. Waterloo Rd., Stockton, 209.931.1196, thefruitbowl.com For an eclectic experience, head over to InSeason Market and Nursery. Open year-round, this urban farm is also a local market, coffee shop, and nursery. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, it features locally made products like soaps alongside locally sourced foods like honeys, jams, and olive oils. This urban oasis is a must-see destination thanks to the quality of services and products it offers, the variety of workshops and classes it holds, and the ever-enchanting environment it creates. 215 E. A fantastic example of a u-pick farm, experiences available throughout the county can be found at Burge Road Farms. For a few weeks every spring, the family opens their micro farm to guests and invite them to harvest delicious cherries, straight from the trees. Branches hang low enough that kids have the ability to share in the fun too! 3000 Burge Rd., Stockton 209.817.1650 or burgeroadfarm.com

Check out this video for a helpful tip to keep your cherries fresh after picking! VISITSTOCKTON.US/UPICKCHERRIES Organically and sustainably produced olive oil can be found at The Coldani Family farm under the Calivirgin label. One of the most awarded olive oil brands in the nation, Calivirgin’s infused olive oils are made by crushing in the herbs and flavors while omitting preservatives and additives. This labor intensive process is just one way the family sets themselves apart. Stop by for a tour, a tasting, and learn about what goes into bringing this valuable crop from the farm to the table. 13950 Thornton Rd., Lodi 209.210.3162

Garden. Read on for more details... Take a moment to digest your wonderful meal by immersing yourself in a sea of blooming beauty at the University Park World Peace Rose Garden. This rose garden is a showstopper from May through September, and you may see the bees at work with their cross-pollination. The garden is situated inside University Park and it truly is a fragrant site. Trust us when we say you will need the walk before your next stop—on to dessert! Now that you’ve worked up an ample appetite it’s time to chow down at one of the city’s most popular brunch spots, Midtown Creperie & Cafe on Stockton’s Miracle Mile. Request a table out on the side patio. They have turned their alleyway between buildings into a cute bistro hideaway. The mural alone is worth the wait.

There are plenty of parlors to find great-tasting ice cream across the city. Best of all, ice cream can taste good anytime of the year. Between University Park and your next destination, the closest stops include Gleason’s Ice Cream and House of Ice Cream. Both will fulfill your craving for quality and flavor.
