Museum Update After over two years of architects, contractors, demolition and rebuilding, Preston Park Museum & Grounds has finally reached completion of a major £7million redevelopment. Set to reopen its doors at the end of July 2012, the Grade II listed Hall will reveal a complete transformation – from the restoration of the building itself through to an exciting redisplay of the collection throughout the Museum. There will also be improved access and facilities including lifts to all floors, a stunning new gift shop and traditional Victorian tearoom. Meanwhile, the original Victorian walled kitchen garden has been brought back into use through new greenhouses, wall repairs and the ongoing planting of a traditional orchard.

This summer, in the spirit of the 2012 Olympic Games, we will explore Stockton’s own sporting success. Our opening exhibition showcases a fascinating mix of objects, photographs and stories of both club and individual achievements. A showcase of some of the very best in contemporary art in the Tees Valley. A group of artists from Middlesbrough-based Platform Arts Studios have created an exhibition inspired by the Hall, Park and the Museum’s collection of objects.
Gothic Horror! 2012 30th October – 30th December
Taking their inspiration from both Victorian Gothic, and the Museum and Grounds this exhibition is the product of the fevered imaginations of the talented students of Cleveland College of Art and Design’s Interactive Media course.

Preston Park Museum and the Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead have worked together to create this exhibition inspired by Robert Ropner’s art collection.
